Even then, not great. She never married and was cast off with a "Flanders mare" reputation. I would say she level-pegged with Catherine Parr, who did re-marry but died in childbirth. Nobody who married Henry entirely escaped toxicity. Parr, who had Protestant leanings, was lucky to escape execution at the hands of Henry, who was more of a Catholic who had merely fallen out with the Pope and persecuted Protestants as well as defenders of Papal supremacy.

Yeah, HENRY definitely thought he was still a handsome, golden king! Everyone else knew to play along with this, but Anne didn't, & Henry was like, "WHAT?!?! She didn't swoon at my feet?" His planet-sized ego couldn't deal with that, so he had a tanty & said SHE was ugly, & HE couldn't stand HER. Sure Henry, whatever you say!

I think Anne was in a no win situation. Henry didn’t love her because she didn’t swoon over him in disguise.. but if she has swooned he may have thought her unfaithful and sent her to the tower..

I think Anne of Cleves had the best lot of all Henry's wives. She didn't get her head cut off, and was able to live a life of independence, luxury, and fun and remain an important personage even after Henry's death. She outlived all the other wives. I'm happy for her that Henry didn't like her from the start. Who knows what her fate might have been, if they remained married long enough for her to piss him off in some way.

Henry was too arrogant to overcome his perceived snub. I would think that no one would dare to deceive Henry and depict Anne, as other than her true likeness. I personally think that Anne had a lucky escape. I feel she would quickly have dismissed any, if only, thoughts. Oh my goodness, Claire, I have to tell you that my beautiful, amazing and thoughtful daughter bought The Real Truth About The Tudors, The Anne Boleyn Collection for me this Christmas. I whole-heartedly agree with your take on all this Claire. Between being humiliated by Anne's not knowing who he was thus thinking he was a servant as well as the blow to his inflated ego is what drove him to make these false accusations in order to annul the marriage. Disgusting. What a pig!!! I can't even imagine how poor Anne felt at the time of this fiasco. What I love about this is that Anne outlived him, his son and lived to see the reign of Queen Mary I. And thanks to Henry's generous offerings of money, clothes as well as a place to live in order to get Anne to consent to the annulment, Anne died a very rich and content woman. Anne of Cleves got the last laugh after all. And I love it! The more I learn about Anne of Cleves, the more I like her. Thanks for a fantastic video. Happy New Year to you and yours!
