GSD is one of my all time fav breeds. They are so smart great with kids and their famines. I grew up with one. My parents got him when I was 4 years old and he was 8 weeks. He taught himself to do all kinds of commands. His parents were police dogs. He was my best friend for over 15 years. He was very sweet and gentle with me, but also very protective. I know he would have given his life to protect his family. When I walked him people would cross the street when they saw us coming if they didn't know us. I was so proud of myself of being able to walk this powerful dog down the street by myself when I was 8-10 years old, Or was he walking me? LOL..

Same here. Grew up with one, protecting me, tolerating my mischief, listening to me when we would walk together. But, when I went to school for the first time he really was stressed. He would run away and wander round the neighbourhood until he found me. After a few times he got his own cushion in the classroom. After a while he knew where I was and would stay home again.

Das war er wohl mal, es sei denn man nimmt einen aus der DDR Linie, was der Westen mit diesem wundervollem Hund gemacht hat gehört schon unter Strafe gestellt. Vorne Hund und hinten Frosch können sich diese Kreaturen kaum noch auf den Beinen halten aber Hauptsache die Showline für 500k nach Dubai verkaufen. Nur das Geld zählt, widerwärtig und an Abartigkeit nicht mehr zu toppen. Bin 58 und mit Schäferhunden aufgewchsen als es noch Hunde waren. Jetzt schon meinen 4 Hund der nicht mehr aus dieser Rasse kommt.

My GSD is a total Derp..... If someone planned on harming us she'd be behind me hiding expecting me to protect us all from the threat. Often times the biggest threat is the wind....or squirrels. Of course there is that giant monster that stops outside our house to eat garbage, she is not fond of it at all. 😂😂

my presa canario x gsd is tiny, probably 21 inches, amd scared of the dark, wind and rain. everyone's scared of her though, especially when she's tied outside a shop cuz she goes mental when dogs walk past. one guy with an offleash dog told his dog to stay back cuz mine was acting aggressive but his dog didn't listen and got closer and closer. I got worried and started to walk outside, worried his dumb dog was guna get hurt, but it seemed to know what my dog was actually thinking cuz once they were up close, face to face, my dog stopped barking and started wagging her tail, absolutely delighted to have a new friend ^_^

Fantastic video Anneka,i particularly love german sheperds and in fact i have one at my house. Yep my dog was like that. He would open doors, the frig and take food at night while we were asleep. . He was too smart. I was his person. He was very attached to me.. I could tell he loved me so much and he was always by my side. I still miss him many years later.. He was the smartest the best dog I have ever known..

I totally love my GSD!! She is a DDR and solid black. We trial in obedience and rally. She has not been trained to bite but she definitely will not let anyone in our house or near our truck. She uses her brain to think about things instead of just rushing in. I love her sooooo much!!

My German Shepherd is 1.5 yrs old and right now, ughhh!!! He's into everything, not afraid of anything, and has to constantly be right behind me!! This is my 4th German Shepherd, if he'd a been my first, he would have been my last!! It's like having a 2 year old on steroids, and yes, done the training sessions. He is amazing as I can take him anywhere, into any situation and he is so chill but should the need arise to protect me he would lay down his life for me. A really great breed. My gsd is amazing. hand signals, english , german commands, Trained to alert when there are deliveries and keep barking until the package comes inside. Also can assist with balance and getting up when I fall because of my MS. Straight back gsd.

My girl had to be put down Monday. Ripped my heart out. Had her one week shy of 11 years and her Lymes disease caused laryngeal paralysis. So Monday morning - she started struggling to breath really bad. I knew my time with her was over. I feel like I betrayed her when she had me as her protector. It’s not easy. So upsetting.

I think it’s important that people understand that wellbred show lines DO have straight backs and that the 3 point stack is what gives them the sloped appearance but standing normally or moving they do have straight backs

@ I think it’s unfortunate that people associate show line GSD with sloped/malformed backs because show lines from good breeders are equally as healthy and well tempered as properly bred working lines the show lines are lower energy and more easy going they are also less prone to animal aggression and tend to have lower prey drive which makes them more suitable as pets for ppl with animals or small kids show lines at least American show lines also tend to have stronger herding instincts and make for good tending dogs when properly bred and trained

The sloped back is caused by breeding for shorter rear legs. All show lines have it or they won't win, the stack emphasizes it. I'm tired of seeing people outrihht lie to defend horrific breed standards set by kennel clybs that are ruining countless dog breeds.

@ the kennel clubs don’t set create or enforce breed standards the only register dogs poorly and wellbred alike also like I’ve said ethically bred show lines do NOT have a sloped backs and I’ve seen many gsds win that have not had sloped backs the American show lines tend to be way less extreme than the German show lines many American show lines have lots of dogs who work and show as well any gsd from an ethical show breeder will ONLY have a sloped croup not hips or back all gsds even working lines have slightly sloped croup *the area behind the hips and in front of the tail base* but no gsd will have a sloping spine as long as it’s from an ethical breeder

Hi Anneka...I admire the information you provided in knowing and understanding the differences between show line and working line GSDs. I find it especially helpful for anybody thinking of getting a GSD become familiar with bloodlines and consult with reputable breeders so that they don't end up with a difficult dog. GSD or otherwise. I agree that show line GSDs with sloping backs are not very healthy and not best suited for protection. This is especially true with American Show Line GSDs, whose backs are extremely sloped and hip joints severely slanted. There is, however, the West German Show Line GSD. Unlike its American counterpart, its back is slightly sloped and has a more balanced stance. It not only makes a great family pet but also a great protector though not as driven as a working line GSD. And on top of that, it's more stable and healthier thanks to standardized breeding and intensive training regimens. I'm curious to know if the working line GSDs you covered in your videos are West German, East German, or Czech Lines. Anyway, hope you have a great day and good luck with any future videos.

My poor girl died from DM there is a test the breeder can use to screen for this to make sure you don't end up with a dog that suffers from it so make sure you get your dog from breeder that can show you the test results. It is a horrible disease that paralyzes the rear end of your dog over the space of a year while the mind remains clear such a cruel way to die I cried more in that year than at any time in my life.

I had a mongrel who wasn't trained in security work but would instinctively go for the groin. He was notorious for doing so to anyone with bad intentions. He was much more feared in the neighbourhood than my second dog - a security-trained working class GSD! He lived to a ripe old age of 16 years! And my GSD lived for 14 years. I miss them both dearly.

German shepherds are no more dangerous than most other medium sized dogs. What shepherd are is very loyal to their owners. My shepherd saved my life at least twice. I was crossing over some railroad tracks and the shepherd alerted me to the oncoming train which was utterly silent coming around a wooded bend. My shepherd keep me from being accosted when I was followed by a creepy guy in a beat up old car.

Also in addition to what I said in my other comment I would say a wellbred showline from an ethical breeder is a better option for most people especially families with children or pets but if you want a sport dog or protection dog a working line dog is likely the better option the difference between the two is mostly energy and temperament there health *assuming they are wellbred* is the same

Yes! My GSD is a pure breed! Nice straight back. stairs into the woods behind my home. And sometimes barks wildly at the apt door. But not always. He’s selective. He is a love bug with strangers not all it’s weird I can’t explain it. I have to be able to walk up to them .. loves being pet .sleeps with me every night but any noise that I can’t even hear he’s up and sitting at guard waiting for a good 15 min before he comes back to bed.

My uncle bred GS for the British army. They would not accept anything but the strait backed, biggest, most intelligent puppies. The ones he used for breeding were pampered, and the rest were either kept as pets or passed on to people he knew and trusted. Past breeding age the ones he kept became pets. I can still remember his house being full of dogs, many of which would pester children into playing with them. The only problem was they thought they were lap dogs. Sit down and you were lucky if only two were sitting on you. Personally I prefer a daffy staffy but can see why people like GS.

A GSD can actually bite so hard, that they can bite through the decoy pants, leather wallet, denim jeans, boxers and the skin. We experienced that with my mothers dog, when the decoy tried to trick the dog. The dog was allready in the air and just bit the first thing that came in sight, it was the bum.

No one dog its intelligent and match german shepherd they its very very unique breed,I had bad flu and my dig knows that because was in bed with me and don't ask even for toilet but we normally going out 4,5 times a day for 2 h ,and when I go with him to backgarden for toilet and we back I just go to the first floor and I need a break but my dog was already upstairs ( I live in last floor) and when he heard I not walk he run downstairs and grabbed in his mouth sleeve from my jacket and pulling me upstairs to home I was in shock because he never was trained to help someone, and just show me how emotionally intelligent its german shepherd that feels compassion for him owner

I tell you something I own german shepherd all my life and I grow up with them and I trained them by myself and I can do this to max level of protection, I own straight back and sloppy back gsd and I buy only from the best breeds ( even now my adopted rebuy boy its from the best kennels import and best pedigree documents) if you buy from good reputable breeders your dog always gonna be healthy dog I have sloppy back dogs who live 17,18 years very healthy and never had any problems with back ,doesn't matter straight back or sloppy back if you buy a dog from healthy parents and grandparents and all ancestors, I feeding my dogs only raw good quality food not supermarkets meat and my gsd live even 18 years sloppy back and straight back both very healthy dogs ,all dry food its not natural and have a lot of danger ingredients but if you feed your dog good quality raw meat then your dog will live longer very healthy thats its most important and don't buy from rubbish breeders

I don't know anything about training but why in the world would you let a total stranger walk up and give a treat and start petting your dog into submission, and yell ouch for a release command .

The angulation of the hips is for herding, the GSD's of old that did herd needed it for their work. Sure bad breeding exaggerated it but saying the angulation of show line dogs is bad is total misinformation.
