Henning May stated in an interview that he found it hard to sing in key that the lead singer ger from Giant Rook. So that may be the strain your picking up. He as a wonderful unique voice . I heard him sing in German and Roxanne. He has that same Raw richness to his voice when he's singing in his normal key. He's quite a talent I hope we get to see a lot more of them in the future. Hopefully he'll sing some more and the English vocabulary. Giant Rook is also a German band and they sing a lot of English speaking songs. They were on tour with another band I see opening act and they tore through the United States. I'm glad I've got to enjoy it I play it many times in a week. I do like the combination of their voices and the bands together.

If I had to guess the second singer has vocal damage. This is why his voice sounds so rough, he has to constrict in order to compensate for the inability to compress properly in his higher range due to this damage. I don't think the guitar in his hands has anything to do with him relaxing. Since higher range requires more compression (and energy) it makes sense why his lower ranges don't have the same tone and sounds more relaxed. His tone reminds me of Garou, a Canadian singer. I'd suggest checking out the version of "Belle" where he sings the whole song by himself (in 3 languages). Garou has that same raspy constricted tone in his high ranges. A good comparison too since they both have deep voices.

Is there any way I can make my voice sound like his or close?
@sergiomartinez59462 жыл бұрын
@@junkdoganimations2151 You're focusing on the wrong thing. Don't worry about the tone of his voice. He could sound just as soulful and musical without the vocal damage. Focus on musicality and style. Don't try to copy his tone because your voice may not be as deep or as big as his, and that's ok, we're all different. But if you want to "sound" like him safely, you can try imitating blues and gospel singers who do growls in a healthy way. I suggest going to a vocal coach to learn ☺️

I'm not sure there's that much damage because Henning really isn't very old and he's had this tone and rasp since the beginning of their popularity when Henning was still like 18/19 years old. Given how much they perform live as one of the most popular bands in Germany, I think it's unlikely that he would be able to sustain this quality without worsening the damage, if it really is.
@sergiomartinez59462 жыл бұрын
@@yael9137 People can have different degrees of damage at any age for a variety of reasons. All I know is his voice is damaged now, and like you I hope he stops singing the way he is or he will have no voice in the future.

@@ZoeStibiVocalCoach no, they're two completely different vocal techniques. Idk really how to describe it but it kinda sounds like raspy or scratchy (to me anyway; that's the best way I can describe it). I don't think it's that different from false cords. Justin Bonitz from Tallah could prbly give you a better explanation on his channel. Check out Hungry Lights (channel name). Vid titled, 'PSA: How TO Prevent Vocal Damage' (he starts talking about glottal compression @7:45). Justin describes it kinda like sounds like a pirate. That whole vid is full of great advice I think you should check out, esp if you're new to harsh vocals (also check out his band Tallah). I would recommend 'LED' and 'Overconfidence.' Both songs have one-take vocal performances on the channel I sub'd
@kat70472 жыл бұрын
It’s definitely the false vocal folds. He has similar qualities to Louis Armstrong who also had that gravelly raspy voice which comes from singing with the FVFs. Glottal compression helps to create consistency in belting. In other words you can belt louder without an obvious volume shift and the sound will stay more consistent but will also sound more tense. His voice is not consistent as it’s very gravelly and raspy and more aggressive sounding. Hopefully he practices proper vocal hygiene to keep the FVFs from creating nodules on the true vocal folds.
