Fun fact, Tom's Diner is an 'A Capella' song originally by Suzanne Vega in the 1980's. A German engineer used it in his research on audio compression of human voices and tones which would be used later to create the universally used MP3 audio format. Because of this, "Tom's Diner" became known as the "Mother of the MP3". You wouldn't be incorrect by calling this song iconic. Another of her songs was relatively famous at the time titled "Brother Mine" which she wrote when she was 14.

German band as you already know! But did you know that Germany has the largest music market in Europe and the third largest music market on this planet (after the USA and Japan) ... !? So if you are interested in german bands/musicians/etc ... < there is a lot (!) to discover! :) A lot of them perform in english language, too. And Germany has bands and artists, too, which some of them are performing since decades! Kind of legends! If you ask any german "do you know artist [placeholder]" the answer might be yes - no matter if young or old! :)

Two German bands. AnnenMayKantereit sing their own songs in German. Giant Rooks‘ songs are in English. AnnenMayKantereit (the group with the surprising singer- Henning May) has cooperated with numerous other bands to cover for example Roxanne by police or Can’t get you out of my head by Kylie Minogue. Highly recommended!

This was a treat to catch you two reacting to this ensemble. My very favorite song of theirs (original) is the live, outdoor one-take of “Ich geh heut nicht mehr tanzen” - which means basically “I’ll go no more dancing”. Far fewer musicians making a much bigger sound - and so totally danceable.

The song is a cover of Suzanne Vega's Tom's Diner (1987). This is a collaboration of two German bands: In the first room AnnenMayKantereit are playing and Henning May (deep raspy voice, May pronounced like "my") is their singer. And in the second room Giant Rooks are playing, Frederik Rabe is their singer. A little later AnnenMayKantereit join them. AMK does mostly German songs, Henning can also sing without that rasp, his voice is amazing, but I like Frederiks voice even more. Giant Rooks do English songs, even though they are Germans as well.
