Mr Rochester narrates the story of his life to Jane and apologizes for the secret he was keeping from her.She can not ignore this terrible secret and with a heavy heart decides to leave him.The couple is separated.Mr Rochester is desperate.A heartbreaking scene excellently performed by the great Timothy Dalton.

Love this scene, I still can't believe how many films cut so much from this scene! This is the closest I've seen to the book. To me this scene is so important. It really showed how much he loved her and you kind of figure out why she ran away. It gets me so mad to see this scene cut short. But this one, I love and I loved the actor's performance. He really sold it as Rochester.

@@missyadams As much as i love his Rochester, i can't say the same about his Heathcliff. He will always be my favourite Rochester but as Heathcliff he overacted and exaggerated his skills. My favourite Heathcliff is Ralph Fiennes by far. Have you seen wuthering heights 1992?

I love this version so much!! Dalton is the best Mr. Rochester there is!! He captured his fire, love, and sadness so well. No other actor has done it as well. (In my opinion anyways.) When he cries at the end, he breaks my heart.

One of my favourite books and my favourite performance of it, only wish I'd found this sooner! I love the fact that there's more embracing than kissing as well because that's more them, it's not a physical passion but a psychologically deep rooted love and hardly any other work of fiction has captured so truthfully.

Morgan le Fay Mr Rochester is his greatest acting achievement.Whenever i read the book i see only him.However,i did not much like his Heathcliff.I think that Ralph Fiennes made a better Heathcliff.Timothy Dalton though is huge and plays soulfuly and passionately the part of Rochester.I'm always in awe watching the 1983 version

In an interview, TD said that Jane Eyre was his favourite out of anything he'd ever done. He was in home territory when they filmed. He loved his character, Rochester. As for 'Wuthering Heights, 'Tom Hardy portrays the best Heathcliff out of any of them. I carried the novel with me as if it were the Bible in high school He is in Masterpiece Theatre's version in which the children of both Cathy and Heathcliff grow up and fall in love. Toby Stephens Rochester gives them a run for their money because his is the most romantic. It's with Ruth Wilson as Jane on Masterpiece in 2006. It's way off the money to the ending. None of them except the Zelah/Timothy version comes close to the book. I wish they had done one more episode in which we are able to SEE TD and Zelah's characters marry. What we need now is who is the best Jane Eyre. After all, the novel is named after her. There is a 2011 version out with Dame Judi as Mrs Fairfax and Michael Fassbender as Rochester. I've only seen clips. I don't want to pay $2.99 on the link through which you have to go. It's not on Netflix. Thanks for answering.

I think the actress chosen to play Jane Eyre didn’t match Timothy Dalton’s pitch. He is so brilliant, so noble and gives so much scope to Rochester! The despair and passion he shows in this scene finds an overly measured echo of the actress.
