So I posted some previews of Aphrodite's part on TikTok, and it got taken down XD Maybe I'm safe here?
I am actually still working on the concepts for all three gods. For Athena, I don't know, I probably will draw her more like an owl though I do like the idea of her serpent depictions, like her serpent cape in the ancient arts...

Wasn't the shell from the Roman Version/the painting "Birth of Venus"? If memory serves me right, Aphrodite was born due to the fight between Kronos and his father Uranus. Uranus blood that was spilled on the ground birthed the Erinnyes/Furies (and the centaurs, iirc), while Aphrodite was born from sea foam, when Uranus cut off scrotum fell into the ocean.

Wow, the way Athena has the gall to grab Ares and fling him around like a rag doll, I love the way she’s able to adapt to the person she’s speaking to. It makes her so lethal. I also love how she legit LOSES her own temper in order to get through Ares’ thick bloodthirsty skull. She knew very well it was the only way he’d listen to her. That’s probably my favorite detail is even Athena has weak points and Ares seems to know exactly where to strike to get a reaction even out of the ever calm Athena

Some part of me wants to assume Ares is also internally just going "YES, FINALLY, YOU'RE ACTING LIKE A PROPER WAR GODDESS NOW!" While externally doing his absolute best to keep his joy at this hidden. Because on all levels, she did not even remotely answer a one of his accusations other than the idea that Telemachus was weak. (Unrelated, I think we have located who Odysseus learned to give apologies from considering his "apology" to Poseidon)

0:20 Love the detail of Aphrodite's arm moving that way. I've watched this thing a dozen times and the exact way her arm moves adds to the unsettling energy she has that lies under the surface of her whole shtick. Also, love how Ares uses a snake to represent his power. Snakes, famously targets of birds of prey, such as owls. Like in many modern tellings of myths, Ares really did not think that through.

Additional detail I noticed: Athena tries to talk to Aphrodite through Aphrodite's motif ("he was busy fighting" and "please reconsider this" both compliment her part of the song) but returns to her standard style (which I can only describe as "triumphant and orderly fanfare" every time I hear it) when butting heads with Ares.

I absolutely LOVE the feathers and snakes slipping out as Athena gets worked up. Really lends to the idea of multi-faceted gods with more instinctual or wild sides to themselves. While presenting a human appearance to mortals and among polite company of fellow gods, Athena also could lose her temper and switch to a terrifying bird lady that will solve a problem with not her mind-just her sharp talons.

ok so i hate being that guy who comes a month later just to correct but. the epitet that was about purity was Ourania which mean "heavenly". the Pandemos epitet meant something along the lines of "for all the folk" so that was quiet literallly the people's Aphrodite. Again i am really sorry about being a dick and correcting but i feel like it's good for the people to learn just a bit more trivia about this messed up dead religion we all have fun learning about. but i do agree that the dove as censorship was a fantastic stylistic choice

There are plenty of people who worhsip the Greek gods still, and some of us prefer to reconstruct the old practices as best we can with just some modern updates. Also to be a bit...picky, Ourania doesn't refer to purity. It's about whether that deity was on Olympus/in the heavens or not. It had nothing to do with purity or any similar concepts. Ouranic deities dwell in the heavens/Olympus. They were typically the Olympians, though there were others referred to as Ouranic outside of that. By contrast, you had the Khthonic deities, usually associated with the earth and the Underworld (Gaea, Demeter in some roles qualified, Persephone, Haides, etc). The Greek word for purity was hagneia. Usually as an epithet it appears as "Hagne" or sometimes you get the similar in meaning one of "Parthenos." It's why you see these epithets used with Artemis and Athena a lot as they were chaste goddesses. "Athena Parthenos" is literally what the Parthenon was dedicated to. Hence the name. But as far as I've seen, never were Hagne or Parthenos used for Aphrodite. She actually... has a lot of ones about how attractive She is, how She inspires lust, and a few that refer to Her as a war goddess. And before you ask how I could worship these terrible gods that do awful things, myth is not the same as religion. They can influence each other, but the myths aren't our Bible equivalent. They're just fun stories, and if you're pulling from Ovid's retellings, he wrote those to be scandalous and offensive. But if you want to know more about Hellenic polytheism (yes, that is the name for the religion), there are podcasts and other resources.

Epithets that actually referred to purity were Hagne and Parthenos. Finally, the myths are not the equivalent to the Greek Bible. It is very important to approach the myth and religion as two distinct things that have some crossover, but mostly the myths are just fun stories, not religious teachings. Finally, Ovid wrote his myths to shock and horrify by his own admission. So being horrified by the crimes in them is the point.

@@Draftsman_MC1300That is true but not entirely correct. In simplest and shortest way possible. Ares is god of battle. Athena is goddess of war. Ares is god of warriors, Athena is goddess of soldiers. Not every warrior is a soldier, but every soldier is a warrior, or at the very least should be. Ares as a word literally translates as Strife, ruin, bane, and later turned into battle. Greeks believed Athena was patron of everything that included war. Tactics, glory, training, equipment, etc. Ares on the other hand was more of the god of killing. Very specific and ugly job but nevertheless important, because how do you do war without killing? Hence why he was disliked so much.

After all, what’s more powerful than the goddess of love and beauty, knowing it and loving herself? It makes sense for her to be confident and natural about it rather than hypersexualized like a lot of portrayals make her.

There's so many details here I love. The doves, Aphrodite's dramatic poses, the switchs in the atmosphere. Also, how Athena is implied to be less human than she presents herself as (with the animal traits giving the impression of something more dangerous lurking in) whole Ares is more human than he presents himself as (when we see his figure, he's not yet wearing his helmet and looks like the figure of a almost normal man, but were not allowed to see the details until he puts the helmet on, hiding the human face that could be underneath. Also the... Scar, for lack of a better word, is in the helmet, not his face

Ares being closer to human makes sense. Strategy and cunning is not a strictly human feature. All being employ it some extent to survive. On the flip side, wars are seldom fought for survival. They are fought for things we as people hold important, and animals don't don't do that. Wars are distinctly human, and thus so is the god of War.

Even if we restrict it to organized struggles between groups of animals (so nothing about the instinctive raiding and extermination that's endemic in eusocial species such as ants), you have stuff like the Gombe Chimpanzee War, where a troupe of chimps in Tanzania split apart and began a four-year long conflict which saw all the males of one of the clans killed and further skirmishes with other clans once the fighting settled down. It's believed to have started over a power struggle between three males over females, and it's not a unique situation among chimp troupes. War, if fairly primitive tribal warfare, is endemic to them. Bonobos, despite their reputation as being very chill, are also often violent in nature.

I love the Ares turning into a snake, he was known for being associate with dragons/snakes in myths. His entire look here is amazing. He also was associate with dogs, boars, bulls, roosters and vultures. Imagine Ares monster form that has head of a wolf, fangs of a boar, hands/claws of rooster, scales of a snake, legs of a a bull, and wings of a vulture. It also would be cool if he and multiple faces/heads. He was called ‚Facing all sides’, meaning he attacked in every direction. Damn. Now I want each Olympian god have a 40k monster/chaos god form.

Umm, I'm going to write all of this down! 👀 But I can tell you that I have some ideas for all gods in this animatic to have multiple forms. I was thinking about incorporating the woodpecker into Ares' design. I don't know how. I probably will just have Ares with a woodpecker as a pet instead.

@@anniflamma1496 not necessarly needed to have woodpecker as Just his pet. Do you know theory why Woodpeckers were sacret birds to Ares together with vultures and Owls? One theory is that its because they have Red feathers on their heads similar to war helmet’s plumes or what we would today call irokez hairstyle. Second theory is that it symbolised positive, fatherly aspect of Ares, woodpeckers basically create homes and feed their families by themselves, and if there is one thing everyone can agree on Ares is that he was pretty good father to his kids. Third, and in my opinion the coolest theory, is because the sound woodpeckers make, is the natural drumming, similar to war drums being hit when going to war. Imagine Ares going to war/showing up with hundreds of Woodpeckers making drum music as his intro. So maybe make Ares form have Red strip of fur or feathers on his head like a woodpecker Please take a look at this sticker’s picture because I think it is very Cool and inspirational. Then his immediate intimidation of advancing on her, and his cloak billowing around her to assert dominance. In other animatics he's like a stolid soldier, but in this he's the warrior with bloodlust. Your portrayal of him really shows him as an epitome of aggression and war.

I love, and I mean LOVE, the actual affects they can inflict on each other. Aphrodite is all about emotions and distractions, but since Athena is notably a celibate Goddess, it doesn't distract her. But when Athena stops time to get Aphrodite to focus and appeals to her with emotion rather than logic, she does end up listening. Then Ares shows up. And she has a visceral reaction to him because they're the two sides of the same coin. She has to hold herself back but knows that Ares won't appeal to logic or emotional honesty. He reacts to Pure. Fucking. FORCE. Because Ares is a bully, and Athena can hit back.

My interpretation is that, as the god of the admittedly more brutal side of war, the bloodshed and suffering, Ares does things in a more brutally honest method. He's not the god of generals or strategy, he's the honest truth of war, and he doesn't mess around with flowery language or politics. In his verse, he's quick and to the point. He says exactly what he thinks of Odysseus, why he disapproves of his him, and nothing more. Athena has to respond in turn, giving her argument swiftly and concisely.

Through all of her stories, she never shows any interest in a partner or romance of any shape, never marries, heck she was born fully formed from Zeus having a headache so she isn't even a product of a sexual/romantic relationship.

The mother died, but Zeus' blood flowed in Athena, so she survived, but a fetus that lost its mother in the 6th month will not grow up healthy. The fact that Ares is just in Aphrodite's room with his helmet off and only puts it on when confronting Athena. I know they're lovers but I also wonder if her room is sort of like a safe space for him. The fact that theres like a lift that goes to the room as well...does that mean that each god has their own domain 'floor' cos thats a cool concept. Aphrodite being in a shell is perfect and her nudity doesn't feel in your face or sexualised, it just looks like she feels comfortable and she'd just lounge about like that. Athena's different approach to them is brilliant, the snake/feathers at her anger *chef kiss*

The Greeks viewed Ares representing the horrors of war, in contrast to Athena, who symbolized strategic warfare. Ares was often depicted as impulsive, brutal, cowardly and get easily wounded. Which usually isnt a posetive thing. However we will never truly know what everyone in ancient greece thought of him. @@foufoulo._.z To my knowledge, Ares was indeed barely worshipped aside from soldiers and obviously the Spartans. As mentioned, Ares embodied aspects of war nobody generally liked. Additionally, his appearances in the mythos aren't exactly stelar either. Ignoring the one where he gets trapped in a vase and it takes his divine family days if not weeks to notice he's even missing, there his also his part in the mythos of Sisyphus. After the capture and imprisonment of Thanatos, Ares is the first to notice the absence of Death, since there is neither fun nor a point to a war where nobody dies.

Ares gets a lot of bad rep in mythology (mostly because those cities and peoples who actually likes him didn’t write stuff down) but here he makes the same point Athena made. Athena might have made all these great plans, but Ares is the soldiers god. He understands that if you don’t have the stomach for the often awful things you need to get the job done, then you get everyone killed. He’d watched the Trojan war for years and he knows how warriors and soldiers think. But Athena’s heroes are more heroic, winning victories and kingdoms, and suffer tragic ends later on, while Ares’s drown cities in blood and burn them down, leaving a terrible story, but happy ending.

My biggest grief in my life is all history that were lost and destroyed, and all we have are the smal pieces. For exempel, in the anicent city Taega, they had a festival were (men wasn't allowed to join, only women) honoring Ares and called him, "the god feasted by women". Celebrating about when the Tegean women won a battle against the spartans when their men starting to lose. So the women armed themselves and beat the Spartans. The first guy who wrote it, just wrote a couple of lines and then moved on. So all we have is what he wrote down and it wasn't much... And Im sitting here on the floor and wished for more details... 🥲

I like how ares first complaint was about how He had power to protect his allies but ended up holding back. I always thought of ares as a god that cares for soldiers, in the sense that, if they were gonna die in war, it should both be by fighting and because it was inevitable. so when ares saw Odysseus didn't act to save people when he could have, or when he refused to even attempt to kill or even hurt scylla for taking members of his crew. of course he was gonna be angry. now does that mean Odysseus made the Wrong choice? not necessarily. But from ares's perspective? he would have.

This is so amazing! There are so many details to love! Like Aphrodite is first lounging all sexy in a clam shell in in her birth photoshoot painting, the way she bounds into flight by pushing off with one hand, the bird cameo-cencorship! And the way she sits when Ares is doing his bit with Athena, just casually like a fully normal person, I love it! And Ares, I love that you first showed him putting on his helmet, like he's just now getting into the mindset for the argument and needs his helmet for that! And his bit with Athena is so dynamic and confrontational! I just adore how everything flows! Capes and hair from the strength behind their movements and how Athena's body does a lil' bounce when she returns to her typical size at the end. And Athena! I love what her eyes are like when she's under a command spell, and how her color flickers from red and blue as she breaks it. And she went so massive! With feathers like an owl and snakes coming out from her pauldrons, both of her animals are literally a part of her! There is just so many small details you've put into this, even the way Aphrodite flexes her foot like a model when she spreads her legs are amazing or how Athena's fingers sharpen to claws at the end, or the absolutely dejection on Aphrodite's and Ares's faces when they realized there was no winning here. And I haven't even mentioned how the colors changed so hauntingly when Athena begged Aphrodite, the shadows hiding both their faces but we can still feel them both! Athena is pleading, while Aphrodite is unwilling to even show her eyes. And the split second of disgust on Aphrodite's face when she says 'rot', I had to go frame by frame to see it because it passed by so fast with her moving, wow! And Ares turning into snake, moving so fluidly like shows itself! I've been rewatching this beauty while writing this, and I noticed another something! I really like how you showed Ares without his helmet but didn't actually show his face. He's the god of war and during battle all you see of your opponent is the helmet and sword, a nameless person to defeat before you move on to more bloodshed. Even his helmet hides his face entirely, not a single bit visible from beneath the shadows, not even his eyes. Athena's helmet, on the other hand, is similar in the front but more open, showing her face and eyes, implying she is still ready for battle but more willing to allow herself to be recognized and known, and similarly willing to recognize and learn her opponent. Her being the goddess of both warfare and wisdom, it fits her so well! And I love how you made Aphrodite not a 'perfect stick figure' body! She was a bit of a tummy, and when she glomps onto Ares you can see a fold on her side, I love it! And that end credit scene is so cute! Ares and Aphrodite immediately move on to more fun things while Athena is fully 'ick, I'm out!' I love it! And this comment turned into an essay, wow. AAAAAND YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN!!! Love the fact that Aphrodite is naked cause she isn't ashamed of any sexual lustor her body, she's the hottest and she knows it and doesn't mind showing it. And how she actually gets pissed at Odysseus leaving his mother heart broken. Unlike other versions I've seen where she's just snarky, here she is being very passive aggressive and really showing how she cares for women who were scorned or were deserted with a broken heart. Ares, Holy jimminy christmas, only 10 seconds and I can feel his raw power. Yeah Athena is a war god of tactics and strategy, but he is the god of the brutality, death, destruction and hate of war. He is what we see war as today, horrifying, bloody, destructive and unnecessarily brutal and deadly, and you can tell even Athena gets paralyzed with fear initially, or just his raw power and strength forcing her to be still. He has no face because you often never see the face of your enemy in war. His snake form *chefs's* *kiss* Perfect! And Athena, no words, just amazing, how the atmosphere just changes in those brief moments where she has control over Aphrodite and Ares really shows her cunning and strength when she wants something. She changes tactics for each god and goddess and it's perfect! Also, love the fact she calls out Ares and Aph being lovers and in an affair despite Aphrodite (who looks dumbfounded when called out) being married to Hephestus (Who really got the shaft when it comes to life XD) Gotta say it, this is my favorite version! I keep coming back to this animation because of how you did Ares. The first thing we see other than his shadowed form is the scarred helmet at his side. Then he puts it on, but we aren’t shown his face, because that helmet IS his face. There is nothing but shadows beneath the cheek guards, and yet despite looking so similar to Athena’s helmet, it is a completely different beast. It’s larger, harder, more worn. While both are gods of war, Athena has other aspects that run off, while Ares is war in its brutal totality. Even when he transforms the helmet doesn’t go away, the eyes of his serpent form are!’ this eyes, they’re the skits of his helmet turned into eyes, scar and all. When Athena goes off on him, the sweat is on his cheek guard, not under it. It’s such a cool thing. I also really like the brief animation of his snake mouth at ‘TRY to kill her.’ It was neat.

Still live, laugh, love Aphrodite's dislike for Odysseus stems not from leaving his wife, his romantic love, but the fact that his absence caused so much heartbreak for his mother, his familial love. Aphrodite is the goddess of LOVE, and while its now her children that governs the nature of the different types of love, I think it makes sense for her to still hold dear other types of love, not just romantic or sexual. In this scenario, not only is Odysseus the champion of Athena, a goddess she usually disagrees with, she's being convinced to help set free a man who through his actions caused his wife so much heartbreak. Not only that, it was exacerbated by the fact that his mother died wishing to see him again, her heart still so full of love and heartbreak just begging to be able to see her son before she left, a wish that will never be fulfilled. As someone who encapsulates love itself, there's no wonder she's angry at the pain he caused. Still, Penelope's heart remains strong, and I'd like to think that it was this fact, along with Athena's argument that despite his shortcomings, Odysseus WILL do whatever it takes to make it back home alive to keep his promise to his wife that made Aphrodite agree to help him, just a tiny bit.

I like how you did Ares as a black snake in a certain point of the video, it also gives a highlight to what once he did to Cadmus, he made a remark that angered Ares, who then turned him into a black snake, according to a version of that story, but it also shows Ares' actual power, when he's at his "peak" as I'd say. Also, I like the details on Athena when she's confronting Ares, where snakes start to show from under her armor, they were a symbol of Athena's power of victory through death and destruction of the enemy, sort of like Ares, but then as a symbol of wisdom, feathers, I assume they were owl feathers, start to show from her armor as well, as a highlight to Athena's spiritual animal. I really like the mythologically accurate scenes in a single music video, well done!

When Aphrodite says "spiting" she opens her legs towards Athena: a virgin goddess. So Aphrodite is probably trying to use her power to tempt Athena. But Aphrodite has no power of Athena (as explained in the homeric hymn to Aphrodite). I absolutely love Ares. First he puts on his helmet like nothing is going on and then... he dashes right in front of Athena (And the cape :D) you can see in Athenas eyes that shes really afraid or atleast startled. i dont have to say anything about Aphrodite do i ? Great animation

…so, that line about Scylla makes a lot more sense after the Thunder Saga 😭 Also I’ve watched this an unhealthy amount of times because I can not get over how graceful Aphrodite looks vs how sharp Ares looks (mainly talking about body language). This is such an awesome animatic!

0:02 Great lighting. 0:18 Dove protecting our purity. o7 0:21 I love how Aphrodite's hair forms a fish tail while she moves as if swimming 0:39 I love how us not seeing Aries move (just one frame of him starting to run then cutting to him in front of Athena with the only movement in that shot being the whiplash of his cape), really sells how fast he is. That he is so fast we can't see him move, but also he can stop instantly. Fucking fantastic. That's my favorite part. 0:42 Love how goopy his transformation is. Also, how his armor does not morph just his... flesh? The armor remains solid until it instantly turns into black goop. Also, the snake's eye scar matching the rent in his helmet is great. Interesting how both his eyes in his humanoid form are fine. 0:57 1:12 I love how different Athena's partial transformation is compared to Poseidon and Aries. She does not turn black, and her body contorts so unpleasantly. Really sells that this is involuntary unlike the others. Also love how the background showing the ceiling lets the viewers know the "camera" in this shot is facing upwards and that Athena is looming over the once looming Aries. The loomer has become the loomed. 1:02 and 1:09 Her face XDD 1:14 Love how the "camera" (what is the right word? Viewpoint?) swings down to follow her shrinking and the two smear frames in the wide shot. Though she might've actually been shaped like that so those aren't really smear frames. Really cool. And then how the downward motion of the close up shot continues in the wide shot, overshoots, and then brings the "camera" back up? Fantastic! Captures the motion brilliantly with so few frames. 1:21 Snerk.
