420 literature prize Its made for European authors only. It should be renamed as European literature prize
@Seorful11 ай бұрын
What do you mean? There is no criteria that the piece of literature has to be written by someone from Europe.
@supernovic9911 ай бұрын
I mean. Europe having the earliest industrial revolution prospered much more in its writing and its literature developed a lot. This is the reason Europeans have good literature and I don't see anything wrong with that. Europe DOES have good literature and several non europeans HAVE won the prize. During a time where racism was prevalent, authors like Rabindranath Tagore won the prize so it's pretty unbiased and a large percentage of authors are from europe

Tagore only won the prize because of what Yeats did to "help" him. Tagore indeed deserves it, but the Nobel Committee only took him seriously because of it.@@supernovic99

@@Seorful well, given that the Swedish Academy and Nobel Committee are physically in Europe, how could they keep from such bias? It seems logistically impossible for them to be familiar with literature in proportion to its audience's population. There are plenty of programs run by publishers and truly international organizations which can far more easily reduce such bias. In the sciences almost everyone writes in English or is translated into it if there work is even of mediocre significance. Literature is just the opposite.
