Whether it's BTS, TXT or Enhypen, HYBE is well known for producing numerous successful boy groups. However, the company's history with its girl groups has been a lot more turbulent. From arrests, to bullying scandals, to a complete ban on female idols altogether, HYBE is infamous for having an especially hard time with girl groups, leading to what some have dubbed "HYBE's girl group curse". Today we will be revisiting the timeline of scandals and unfortunate events that befell each and every single girl group under HYBE.

Hey guys, i've done an updated video on the recent HYBE vs ADOR situation. You can check it out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJ27gXiom8ydY7c Get Cyberghost here: www.cyberghostvpn.com/Ploopy678 Hey guys! In case you missed the intro, this is an updated version of the previous HYBE video I did. I combined the previous video I did with the new section just so everything is in one place, and I also updated some of the graphics to make things clearer and more cohesive. But if you would like to just watch the updates then feel free to skip to 16:35😊 Ps. Hopefully I don't get sued by HYBE, please don't report me guys 🤣

I've always found the idea of child entertainers creepy. Even if the parents try to be involved I'm sure there's still a lot of time when these kids are left alone with a bunch of strangers essentially. Entertainment industry is already shady and exploitative so imagine a child navigating that.

Thats why I think ANYONE working with or around these young idols and trainees should have to go through the same level of background checks and manditory reporter paperwork similar to people who work in schools. Like if you have trainees who are middle schoolers, then every single staff member who interacts with them, from the stylist to the random dude in marketing, has to be properly screened. If theater work (broadway, west end, touring shows) are able to protect and support whole casts of 8 to 14 year olds in shows like Matilda, Peter Pan, and Billy Eliot, then why on earth can't kpop companies do it?

Garam did what literally ANYONE would do. If someone shared pics of MY friends changing, there would be WAY more things shared than just curse words. Knetz have no room judging garam for cussing someone out for good reason when they bodyshame, bully, attack, and tell idols to “delete” themselves on the regular. Fans ruined her career and refuse to acknowledge it. There’s no way she can comeback from this and it’s so sad. I hope she can find another passion and live a good life.

I feel like cussing someone and bullying are completely different things. It's the same for Soojin's case. Her "friend" made Soojin wait for hours. Soojin is the one being bullied if anyone. And then she got angry at them just as she should. It's not bullying?? They just didn't have a good relationship.

@@ykilyr as soon as garam became known as a member of le sserafim, she was accused by someone of massive bullying, and her “evidence” was “she did this”. She also revealed a school document saying Garam got a level 5 punishment (which is very bad) and got expelled, but she only showed a TINY piece of the document and nothing else. Hybe originally defended Garam, but after severe backlash from fans (and i mean SEVERE), they went silent and eventually kicked her out. Garam later revealed what happened (the accuser was a bully and took photos of Garam’s friend and spread them around, and all Garam did was defend her friend and curse out the accuser) and showed her version of the school document which was much more clear. There was very little evidence showing Garam was a bully, but netizens just ran with the accusation and harassed Garam to a degree I haven’t seen in a long time. Her career was ruined because the general public didn’t wait for anything official to come out and just wanted to hate on someone. It’s very sad

as a longtime og kpopper since 2008, i have learned over the years to wait until the full story comes out. there are way too many talented people out there that were innocent the entire time. bullying in retaliation is unacceptable. i usually keep my opinions to myself when it comes to these types of cases. like the mina and jimin case, everyone was defending mina and sabotaging jimin. i was neutral. of course i was happy when jimin was proven innocent, but i was also angry because her career was so unnecessarily ruined. mina was smug the whole time, raking in the attention, basking in the empathy she didn't deserve. so in this situation with le sserafim, i will stay neutral until she's proven innocent or guilty. i think what everyone needs to learn is to be mature and stay neutral. yes you love them, you don't want to see them go down, but some of y'all are looking through rose coloured glasses.

Nizi Project season 2 should start airing by the end of this year and the second part would probably be aired in the middle of next year with the boys making their debut by the end of 2023. C Project might debut by the end of this year or the beggining of the next one. Finally, I'm out of words when it comes to JLoud, it's been a year since Loud Survival show finished yet there are no news about the guys debut. I genuinely am uncomfortable with the New Jeans thing, everything about their group. The girls are surely talented, but it’s undeniable that girls this young are negatively affected by fame and overworking. The Cookie song only solidifies the truth they are attempting to conceal, it’s obvious they’re pushing the girls as both YOUNG and “sexy” at the same time. It’s hard to ignore or deny the overall effect, and it’s even worse that they doubled down and tried to claim the song was written by 2 fluent English speakers and claiming none of them believe that cookie is slang despite everyone clearly informing them that it is. This will not go well, someday I’m sure we’ll be hearing about even worse scandals that have been so far successfully concealed

The Garam situation getting so big was Hybe's fault 100% the accusations were out before she even debuted and they had access to the full document they could've released at any time, they must've also been aware of Min Heejin's history too yet still put her in charge of New Jeans, they've sexualised pretty much all the minors they've debuted JK and Jimin lifting up their shirts, hip thrusting, etc, everything they do with Ni-Ki tbh but most noticeably fever, LeSserafim doing the WAP dance when half the group were underage and LeSserafim,s cookie and creepy director (I don't know how old GLAM were at debut and TXT had an appropriate concept) and they never do anything about their boy groups being problematic (BTS with their consistent racism, ca, colourism, disrespecting the dead and anti-Semitic imagery, TXT's CA photoshoot, Enhypen's fatshaming and the constant controversies they get themselves in) and even protect/ignore them but the second their girl groups do anything (even if it's just false accusations) they'll punish them, boycotting girls all together was a pretty shitty thing to do, they don't care about women at all. Hybe has always been shitty at dealing with scandals. I don't understand why Hybe let Heejin reply to be honest, that's got to be the worst response to any controversy I've ever seen, not just the threats but her trying to gaslight everyone

Hybe has a clear issue with the selection of trainees: - 3 of the original BTS members were very problematic and yet they still chose to support one of them as a producer. Though I'm sure they thank God everyday Iron refused to debut with bts, - Not 1 but 2 Glam members were involved into scandals, - Enhypen go viral with "interesting " stuff every other week - Trainee A already had a misogyny scandal with one of their members ,who was recently kicked out - And of course we have the management of the Garam situation These stuff aren't coincidences or bad luck. It's the company not checking out their trainees or they are very well aware of who their trainees are but they just hope it won't explode on them. Also it's not a curse if you willingly decide to disband your own girl group and hire MHJ to manage a bunch of teenage girls.

Let's not forget Garam was around 12/13 when the supposed bullying happened. S. Korea is known for their weak laws regarding women, young girls, child p, and minor laws in general. So yes Eunsoo could probably get away with it. Allie had her minor nude photos leaked and the leaker suffered no harm. Honestly if this becomes a Tara situation it's even worst then Tara as Garam is still a minor (15/16).

I never actually knew the full story with Kim Garam because the internet's reaction to it was so weird - most people I saw were immediately dismissing the accusations, because other idols had been falsely accused in the past, but even those who agreed with the accusations didn't share all the details. I hate that the kpop community tends to immediately disbelieve these accusations and puts down those who want all the details, because that hurts all sides of the situation, including their idol. I'm glad to hear that the situation wasn't as bad as it seemed, but I think that hybe's handling of the situation made it so much worse than it needed to be. I think it was for the best that they pulled Garam from the group, and I think they should have either done it as soon as they were made aware (so she wouldn't have to face all of it in the spotlight, and so other members wouldn't be affected), or put out a statement saying they were investigating, and gone through all of the evidence (on both sides) behind closed doors. Their actions made everything so much worse for everyone involved, and it's their fault that it's still not entirely clear which evidence can be truly believed. I think that if they had pulled her out of the group earlier, Garam could have had another chance to debut when she's a little older and is properly away from her school situation - but because of hybe's actions, I think this will follow her if she tries to start again, even in a few years, and I find that quite sad.

@johnjackson3735
@johnjackson3735 Жыл бұрын
I strongly disagree that it is not as bad as it seems and Garam should have remained in the group. The kpop urge to cancel innocent victims who have great talent to feed the witch- hunting mob drenched in lies its sacrifice to purify the group is really ghoulish and inherently violent by nature since it is an attack on the mental health of the victim and Garam has suffered deep depression and a ruined career from this. Besides, few ever consider that their favorite may be the next scapegoat in line. It's the height of injustice to destroy the career of the innocent victim, Garam, and have fans within her own group turn against her because they believe the lies of the other side and wish to empower the real bully who filed a lawsuit to ruin Garam's career. Garam has been bullied and stalked by the fake victim and her rich father because Garam had the guts to stand up to verbally confront the fake victim, who posted half-naked photos of her traumatized friend online under another name to incriminate another student. She was also bullied in chat rooms by the fake victim who forced gangs of boys to threaten violence against her and Garam had obcenities and insults written on her desk, and fabricated photos posted online by the psycho Eunsoo. This is why kpop is viewed as having a twisted witch hunting mentality with contempt and callousness towards the innocent victim reminiscent of totalitarian governments with no due process of law. Besides, other members of Le Sserafim like Chaewon have likely had scandals swept under the table since her last placement in IZone was very suspicious especially considering her mom's powerful position in the industry, but group unity is key since they trained together and I wouldn't want to bring this up as a reason to try and create division in the group .

@john-friend
@john-friend 3 ай бұрын
What you said about Gfriend's disbandment was very accurate and well put. I have a theory that has been rolling around in my head for a while. IZ*ONE disbanded on April 29th, 2021. Remember that date because something happened about 3 weeks after. IZ*ONE was immensely popular. Someone else puts in the effort to make them popular and then you sweep in and reap the rewards. It was a golden opportunity for someone to recruit former IZ*ONE members. Any new group you form with them would be instantly popular and a huge hit. In July 2019, Hybe had unofficially taken over Gfriend after acquiring Source Music (their unofficial sister company). For one year, Bang Si Hyuk tried to transform Gfriend (even though he said he would not interfere with Gfriend). He tried new concepts, new sounds, more expensive music videos, that whole "they wrote the song themselves" gimmick, social engineering, sex appeal, controversial imagery (such as Yuju smoking), and most probably new management and handling of Gfriend. Later, SinB would say that she didn't like seeing herself on stage from about when Hybe took over and that she was depressed the whole time until Gfriend's contract abruptly ended. You might start to wonder if Hybe had anything to do with SinB's depression. A few months after Hybe took over, SinB suddenly developed a desire to get bigger muscles. She said that she would get bigger and protect herself. Sorry, this is off topic, but you might start to wonder what happened behind the scenes when Hybe took over Source Music. So Bang failed at achieving any success with Gfriend. He just didn't understand Gfriend. After MAGO, Gfriend would just do KZbin reality shows for a few months. They were basically riding the bench. Hybe was already done with them and just squeezing out some more money before retiring them. Hybe also stopped receiving gifts for Gfriend from fans in January 2021. Hybe was waiting for a golden opportunity that would appear soon. Gfriend's contract ended abruptly in May 2021. Remember who also disbanded just 3 weeks before Gfriend? IZ*ONE. It was no accident that Gfriend's contract suddenly ended. Hybe was kicking out Gfriend and using the resources to produce Le Sserafim. Gfriend's contract should have ended in January of 2022, but Hybe wanted the resources to produce Le Sserafim. Even as a fan I don't fault Hybe for dumping Gfriend. To them it is just a business. It's a matter of choosing the more lucrative investment. What I do blame them for is the manner in which they did it. No manners whatsoever. They did the same for Dahee, Promis 9, and Garam, too. I think I'm missing one boy group. They were thrown out like trash. If you're going to get rid of Gfriend, as least give them a proper send off. At least pretend that you actually care about the music, the artists, and the fans. The worst part of it is that they just got away with it.

I think what Garam did wrong when she was in middle school was the way she handled those situations she was involved in.She should had told an adult or a teacher. According to the svc document Eunseoo wasnt a great friend to say the least she used to backbite,gossip, talk behind peoples back, hacked an account, posted a nude picture of a minor(Garam friend). And that of course caused a negative reaction from Garam and her friends. I dont see a lot of people talking about Eunseoo horrible actions( and to say people thougth this kind of a person was a victim) unmm chile anyways.Both parties treated eachother horribly(one party more than the other).The situation is not as black and white as must kpop stans think. The only thing we can hope is that everyone involved as matured and reflected over their past behaviours. That what matters now, not "bullying Garam back on social media" under the excuse of justice, if you are one of those people that engaged in the cyberbullying against Garam you are not an avenger but a bully.

What I hate about these situations is that people think that there’s always one villain and one victim, but that’s not how life works. There’s always a gray area. I hope Garam and Eunsoo grow up and mature, and maybe some day, they will forgive and forget. What I don’t like is people justifying what Garam did, and completely ignoring Eunsoo’s actions. In no way is violence or harassment justified, and in no way is bullying justified, whether or not the person doing the bullying is hurt. I feel like Hybe knew about the situation - and if Garam was allegedly a victim why would they not allow her to debut? Especially, if they're known for their "anti-bullying" campaigns, this aligns with their brand. I just think public opinion and social media have a way of blowing things out of proportion based on misinformation. And we all know how bullying is perceived in SK, the moment a rumour comes out it's over, regardless if the person is innocent, their name is tainted. I see why they decided to drop Garam because even if she wasn't bullying, it left a bad taste in everyone's mouth and that affects business. The cookie incident is literally how the industry works - minors have been s*xualized for decades in the entertainment industry globally, it's nothing new. The problem comes from the consumers who feed into it. They all know what they're doing in the industry but guess what? NewJeans is still thriving, so who takes the blame at this point? The company? or the consumers who the company is making content for? But that's just my take. Great video!

The thing most people are worried about with them is Min HeeJin tbh especially since she started working with them that's when Cookie came out, and it's just really messy. Just my opinion though on it. I think even if they get successful it could become a potential situation like with many Disney stars, or entertainers like Brittney, and could traumatise them once they realise they're being exploited if they haven't already.

Hybe really didn't learn from their management mistake with Glam, they reproduced the same mistake with their incoherent statement, and before garam was kicked out, Garam appeared to Japan magazine with others members and Hybe state they will keep Garam but then quickly after, they kicked out Garam, their incoherence lol

When HYBE decide to defend Garam people where like “why are trying so hard for Garam?” “Maybe she have some blood connection” etc, and when HYBE decide to leave Garam netizens where like “if she is really not guilty why not defend her?” Like netizens only believe what they want to believe Well almost 2 years since the controversy and her leaving the group and there are still people talking about her about where she is and what future will she have (and there was a trend going viral thanks to garam in her blue flame fancam I think after 1 year of her leaving) I actually defend her at that time posting comments like “we should not get into conclusions when there’s is not enough proof” and reposting a video I saw about I think her teacher statement saying that she is innocent or like that (I don’t remember much since it’s almost been 2 years)

NewJeans had some different members and was planned to debut in 2020 before the pandemic broke out, so they were definitely not made to distract from Garam. At least NewJeans still seems to be hybes most successful gg despite everything. Heejin most definitely did not handle her situation well

I blame HYBE/source for handling the situation bad but I also blame the public like people were bullying that girl and seems like it wasn’t letting up anytime soon and to this day people still drag her for something that we never got the full story on just he say she say and I called this when they put her on hiatus that either A. They find solid official evidence to support their story or B. They release her and save the the rest of the group and they did plan B and base on everything I seen it seems like the true victim is victim D if the girl took her pictures without her consent and spread it online and the alleged victim would lean more on the side of a bully and garam just stepping in defending her friend (should’ve got the school involved instead of trying to help on her own). Also it was real weird when people were yelling screaming for HYBE to kick garam out and then when they did everybody switch up and i honestly think HYBE/source just gave up tbh which was bad on that part but kind of understandable because garam reputation was/is ruined and the evidence garam friend gave us has never been officially proven to be true which leaves everything up in the air just a whole ass mess

@The Meaning is Always Vague That graduation system is dumb, if the reason was their age. Why even out them in a group in the first place? This is so cruel, they worked hard to be in a group. And just after 2 songs and drama were kicked out because of their age. That's the most dumbest thing I heard. 27 ain't even old and their age matched the group's vibe, sexy but yet youthful. I didn't even know that they were 27/28. What Dr music did ruined the group. To be popular in Korea you need some Korean members.

I think one thing that should've been mentioned here is that GLAM did something no other kpop group has ever done. They've performed with a hologram virtual girl named SeeU. She's more specifically a vocaloid. She has a very cute design and she wears an outfit which looks something like an orange out of the future school girl outfit. When I watched the stage performance of their song, "I like that" years ago, I was absolutely mind blown. It was a very original idea and it was also fun to watch them sing and dance with a literal hologram, which makes the experience much more interactive. SeeU has a love hate relationship in Korea and little popularity because her voice bank used Dahee's voice and vocaloid is also a Japanese thing originally, so you can imagine the little wars and criticism the innocent virtual singer faced. I honestly miss her, she has no original songs and little to no fame whatsoever. If only they could at least bring her back to life doing a Collab or something with newjeans, since they're from the same label.

First new video I've seen since I subscribed. I hadn't watched the original HYBE video so it was a whole new experience for me. I thought you did a very good job of presenting the facts and doing analysis. And I appreciate the exposure of stories that I'd honestly have little idea about otherwise. Also, I really love the little touches you throw in, such as the "...right?" and the zoom in "...or was it?" Anyway, keep it up!

Banning girls to audition for their main label (till this day they haven't debuted a girl group) it's too extreme tbh And lands in sexist territory. Not all girls are like the girl that ruined GLAM, so that's an awful act to it. For Source Music, that was shady business, since the sudden disbandment of GFRIEND it became clear they bought the company for what you said, they wanted their management, debuting LE SSERAFIM quite fast. For ADOR, that's not really HYBE fault tho~ It was a bad creative decision. And to debut new groups, that's the market, you need to see who are debuting them. I doubt ADOR will debut a new gg, I doubt Source will debut a new gg, Pledis has now fromis_9 but they didn't debut under them so it makes sense to debut THEIR new gg under Hybe. And idk if the sub-label that BTS and TXT are under will ever debut a new gg.

coming from being a jpop fan, newjeans age isn't "young" by my standarts... but the difference is, jpop isn't as strict on talents, they don't need perfect dance or vocals, but what they do is always make them sing, causing nodules to form. I just hope hype is taking care of their mental health and don't make any other move like cookie...

I think the fact that BigHit's solution to GLAM's scandals was to ban female trainees was the warning sign everyone should have picked up on. The issue was not that they were female artists or that they were girl groups. The issue was the lack of concern or due diligence for vetting their artists and the terrible, terrible handling of scandals. But they decided "okay, let's just not deal with girls". Technically, girl groups and boy groups face quite different realities often when it comes to societal response, but I just highly doubt that's what the company was thinking when they made that decision. Then we get to now, and LE SSERAFIM and NewJeans are marred by the exact same problems: lack of concern or due diligence for vetting their artists and terrible, terrible handling of scandals. Only now, we have the added issues of sexualizing young girls (which, to be fair, also happened with Jimin, but people don't care about sexualization when it's guys for some bloody reason). Ultimately, girls who are looking to get into the K-Pop industry should just avoid HYBE and any of their subsidiaries. Even if HYBE might not make all the decisions for its labels, when something like the NewJeans and LE SSERAFIM controveries occur, they, as the parent company, *need* to take a look at what's going on. The cover of "we encourage identity and independence for our labels" means absolutely nothing when HYBE, at the end of the day, is in charge of the labels and *will* be expected to due their part in addressing any internal problems. If MindGeek, P*rnHub's parent company, took steps to handle their disgusting practices, maybe they wouldn't be getting sued and having their CEOs resign under the scrutiny because of P*rnHub's actions. HYBE needs to see their role the same way.

The worst part, at least for me, is that I still love the music that Big Hit Music produces. But I'm trying to separe the artist from the company and only support BTS and TXT because I liked them way before GFriend's disbandment, which in my opinion was when Hybe's mask started to drop about how they clearly have less consideration of their female artists. Is not that their male groups don't have problems, but they know that their fanbases are so loyal so they can have more money of them by protect them at all costs. Anyway please support Adora's career. She was under Hybe/ Big Hit Music as a producer for many years. Her songs have this catchy, but cool feeling that sounds really refreshing 💖
