Finally in person once again: After two virtual meetings, the 2022 Annual Meeting of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation will be held once again as an in-person event in Berlin. Participants will come from across the globe, from countries that include Brazil, India and the USA, Nigeria, Australia and Ukraine. More than 600 scientists and scholars from nearly 80 countries, who are currently guests at a German university thanks to assistance from the Humboldt Foundation, are expected to attend. The aim behind the Humboldt Foundation’s Annual Meetings is to provide a setting where Humboldtians can get acquainted and share information and ideas with one another.

The Annual Meeting will be opened on 22 June at the Freie Universität Berlin by the President of the Humboldt Foundation, Hans-Christian Pape, and the President of Freie Universität, Günter Ziegler. The internationally renowned infection biologist and Humboldtian Emmanuelle Charpentier, who was awarded the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for her development of the CRISPR/Cas9 genetic scissors, will give the keynote address. Charpentier was awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Professorship in 2014 and has conducted research in Germany ever since. Following her address, two Humboldtians from Brazil and South Africa will report on their experiences during their research stays in Germany.
