Odd Taxi is one of those shows that re-affirms your faith in anime. It shows that there are still creators willing to make original, thought-provoking pieces of art in an industry bogged down by mediocrity and pandering. There's a reason it's the only seasonal anime I cared to try in Spring, and one of my favourite new series of the past few years.

I felt really bad for Yuki throught the show. She didn't do anything, she didn't want something, I don't even think she really wanted to be the center of Mystery Kiss. She just wanted to have fun and do things that she could look back on with a smile. She literally was just doing her own thing. Wheres Sakura was extremely lucky, Yuki was just...unlucky.

He probably did. There’s enough evidence in the ending to suggest he does remember the girl and that he was going to report it to the police. Plus, it’s a lot more thematic if he did survive. This show had definitely its own dark moments but it’s an overall uplifting story in my opinion. But don’t get me wrong, it was left open for a reason and it was genius to end it that way for sure.

Chadokawa definitely reported his findings to the police. Plus there's no way the murderer would kill him in broad daylight. Plus there's also the dashcam footage which would further support him. There's most likely a plan to get further evidence to incriminate the killer since there's no hard evidence. And if all else fails Shirakawa ex Machina will be there to kick open the door

Plus there's also him talking in the hospital bed prior that he'll report everything to the police. Love this anime, so open to interpretations. Like, Odokawa no longer sees people as just animals, but humans. So does that mean he no longer recognizes people? Did he and Shirakawa get together? Is Little Daimon working with Odokawa for cases? since Taxi drivers interact with many people, Odokawa is bound to interact with possible suspects for other cases.

It’s a vauge umbrella catch-all term for a reason and i find that beautiful. What’s more terrifying than the twisted ending is the fact that what happened to the killer could have actually happened to real life killers. But, still, Hajime Tanaka is still my favorite villain and gives me more goosebumps. What a fantastic anime.

This show doesn't really have villains, just morally questionable individuals who all have their own reasons for their immoral actions. That said, Yano was my favourite 'antagonist' because the way he rapped all his lines whilst spitting facts and then lost his composure and broke his rhyme scene at the end was just way too entertaining.

I think he actually know who the girl murderer is, and set up a trap to catch her. Even in human form, he was able to differentiate both "cats". In the past (still animals) when the body Yuki was discovered, he said something on the lines of " that's not her" meaning, it's not Yuki who used his taxi, but the murderer girl. Then in the last episode (human form), I noticed in the hospital scene he said " Right, that reminds me.... The girl I drove late at night on Oct 4th to the Mystery Kiss office... Nothing, I guess I should tell the police." Meaning, he recognize her still, even in human form, and connected the points. I was observing because I'm on edge with the cats since I was wondering who the f*ck was in his cabinet. Then, I realized the cat on the opening song, and was able to connect the dots. Could be wrong but still

People gotta remember that he knew who the killer was and in the hospital bed he mentioned he needed to tell the police something. The ending is definitely open to interpretation like did the killer set odakawa up or did odakawa set her up. I personally think odakawa set her up like he did with the others in the show

Worst case scenario is I believe Odokawa already told the police about the culprit, and even if she somehow managed to murder him, eventually it will all lead back to her. She has no big accomplices, not part of the Yakuza or nothing, noone in the force to cover for her. Even in the worst case scenario, she's all but certainly gonna get caught.

She was the least suspected because she was beneath noticed! That's how these stories go, the killer is always the person who you least expected, usually because they story either dropped a bread crumb worth looking at, or their the only one left out of the suspects cleared and you look close enough to REALLY notice how THEY benefited from the murder. It's why Rui ended up being arrested as the prime suspected after all! She benefited the most from Yuki death and there's some evidence to support the belief she would do it! Compared to Sakura who if you look close enough, benefited because to cover up Yuki death, she was hired simply because they looked similar enough (The mask being to hide her upper face because Yuki fans WOULD NOTICE she's not Yuki! She has the eyes, body type ETC, but her upper face and eyes pretty much reveal all!!) Rui however is a more tempting target as the primary suspect BECAUSE she wanted to be leader of Mystery Kiss and wanted Yuki gone, though she's a bitch (no pun intended with what animal she looked like) Rui never wanted her dead or to end up blackmailed by Yakuza to cover it all up either (that's her manager's fault) In the end, the only thing she has is LUCK! She's beneath notice, the loose ends "don't have their guard up on her because she's the least threatening!" Hell it's likely she could get away with murder if she kept herself on the lowdown! Even if Odokawa told the police, it's up to them to investigate further and not just decide, it's not enough to remove Rui as suspect number 1! It's why Sakura is a GOOD foil to Odokawa! Odokawa's humble, he knows his limits, while Sakura's let her success get to her head like serial killers usually do, getting sloppy and sloppy till it becomes akin to being covered in germs that a UV light will have you SHINE the moment it's focused on you! Or a better way to compare is, she keeps winning gambles after gambles that instead of taking her winnings and GOING HOME, she instead keeps playing double or nothing to increase her winnings....but as they say, eventually you'll lose and have NOTHING to show for it because you just didn't know "when to STOP when the getting was good!"

Watching Odd Taxi is like watching a Durarara/Baccano season mixed with Zootopia yet.. Somehow far more grounded that I expected it to be. I did an all nighter to finish this show because I just can't drop it until I am done with it-- Twas a beautiful show to watch. During the end credits of Odd Taxi: In the Woods, one of the stills has a television with a news report stating that she was arrested for assaulting and attempting to murder a man, presumably Odokawa. So she seemingly did get caught in the end, though presumably still wasn't charged for her original crime, and we got our happy ending.

No, you're not the only one who was grinning when they turned into humans. The weekly experience Odd Taxi has been providing has been the strongest I've experienced yet, amazingly interesting themes, and a satsifying ending that ties all major plot points together? Instant 10/10. A true gem. Thank you for standing up for Odd Taxi on the KZbins. And you know how satisfying the ending was when the thing we all thought was the biggest plot point, dealing with the murderer, is left unsolved and the fact that it is unsolved makes the series just that much better. I don't want to be that guy, but Odd Taxi truly says a lot about society. What a Wonderful World was a brilliant musical choice to end the video on, btw.

@@anormie8549 Honestly no. It's like that bit where Hitchcock says it's better when a bomb doesn't go off so at the end of the movie people will stay in suspense. Sometimes it's better to deal with suspense than with relief. A lesser show would have done that. Odd Taxi stands out because it doesn't show you what's next. That's a gift that needs to be cherished. It believes you're better than that.

I like to believe she does get caught in the end. After all, she basically says outright that she is planning to kill again while holding that pen, and Odokawa mentions contacting the police 2x right before that scene. Whether or not she gets Odokawa 1st is..... Well, a much scarier prospect, but my main man has some serious luck when it comes to getting through bad situations. I like MB's take on it, that the green light at the end of the opening signifies Odokawa moving forward in life at the end of it all. And honestly that opening is so packed full of symbolism I kinda believe it.

I really liked the series as a whole. Every episode was amazing because it was real. The characters felt too real. It's super rare to watch a show with so many characters who act like real people. I loved the episode(I think it was the 4th one)with the story of the scull mask man. His story was sad but actually pretty realistic. I really enjoyed the show and the finale was a wow. Odd Taxi is actually the best anime of the season and the hidden gem at the same time.

I have just finished it, I have to say it's now one my top favorite animes. It's short, straight to the point, not too much flash backs of the every episode that past by, it was perfect. This was tragically happy ending and the big bad man isn't bad at all, it's his henchmen and his own way that give us that feeling. Gotta say before I knew about dobbo, I hated him but now I really like him and also, Tanaka who went down the road of disaster and this is what happens when you get obsessed and when your family care for you but, you take it for granted. Odakawa you're really an awesome taxi driver. Also, the fact that sakura killed yuki was just so unexpected even when it was in front of our eyes.

2:00 I can 100%, unironically confess that I had a similar reaction. Big part in fact that I was pretty curious as to how the characters animal designs would translate to humans, and honestly I was overall very satisfied with the outcome!

Fantastic video! I just finished watching Odd Taxi last night, and the ending did exactly what you mentioned it did to others: I was horrified. The fact that even after all of that, after everything that happened, Sakura managed to escape any fingers pointing towards her was chilling. She got lucky. And that truly does make it tragic. Also the fact that you see Donraku grieving over his daughter, thinking about that scene of him in the hospital after the truth is revealed is even more heartbreaking.

Yea it sucks, it's an open ending that leaves to our interpretation.... this makes me curious for his and her fate, but remember that she holds this "lucky love pen", people that have this usually lose in the end, e.g Yamamoto (has this in his bag, ended up being captured by police), Odokawa's car (got drowned into the water, RIP car).

I love how it's one of those open to interpretation endings yet it also leaves us satisfied as if we already got everything we wanted just goes to show how well it was written Also since it is open to interpretation Odokawa survived I dont know how, maybe he got Little Daimon to help or something I dont know i cant sleep knowing that my MAN ODO FREAKING KAWA might've met a tragic end by the hands of one if the greatest villains of 2021 who was made a villain within the time span of one singular phone call

I support the theory that he survived. Odokawa remembered who was in his taxi on the night of the murder and he mentioned that he was going to go to the police with that info. He knew that he had given a ride to the decoy Yuki, which meant that she was there at the scene of the crime and she also had a strong motive (since she got to be a part of the idols by eliminating Yuki). Odokawa and Little Daimon must have figured out she was the murderer, and sprung a trap for her at the end to catch her, using Odokawa as bait. Notice that when she gets into the taxi he looks down for a second and shifts, it's possible he was pressing the SOS button (which he did back when Dobu entered his taxi for the first time and threatened him with a gun).

ill be real, the one thing that bothered me about the ending will always be Tanaka. He: -shoots up a club -steals a car and crashes it -shoots dobu -almost jumps off a bridge and despite this, he learned his lesson instantly, deleted his gacha, and somehow returned to work as if nothing ever happened. He got no comeuppance or retribution and learned nothing. His resolution was just instant for the sake of "The Happy Ending" and that will always bother me.

This anime was a strange ride. At first wegen I browsed through the catalog I didn’t found it very appealing out of shear boredom I started watching it and was hooked I don’t know what hooked me but I definitely was hooked. And I can definitely say it’s one of my favorite anime. It was just so good. I just hope that he doesn’t get killed and the girl gets captured by the police and her entering the taxi was a setup for her arrest.

I'll give you a sub for appreciating this masterpiece. That scene where Tanaka shot Dobu tho, you can just feel what Tanaka was feeling at that time. The confusion, anger, resentment. The dam just broke down, I think it just made him think that he really can't blame anyone else for what happened to him but himself.

Dobu slowly losing his breath and in agony while begging Todokawa to help him was definitely well deserved. Tanaka didn't deserve to go through everything he did and while shooting Dobu didn't help him feel better it was certainly earned on Dobu's part for all the malice and suffering Dobu caused. Yet behind it all I can't say Dobu is a completely evil person, a degenerate for sure but, he has some really human moments, like when he called out that narcissistic hippo. Or when he helped Todokawa save his friend, I wish we got to learn of his full backstory because he was an interesting villain, and make no mistake that's exactly what he is, a villain.

The issue is that logic is up against thematic consistency. It makes absolute sense that Sakura kills Oodokawa because: >she's smart and calculating >Oodokawa doesn't see it coming But that would be equally contrived. How did the show 'earn' that ending? With Tony as an example, the show earned the right by establishing Tony's character and his actions throughout the show. Oodokawa not only lacks that establishment, but him getting casually murdered would run diametrically opposite of the show's central theme of people being bound on an unexplainable level as they influence each other's lives without know it. They were all watching Oodokawa's taxi fly off the bridge i.e. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS COINCIDENCE. There is no randomness! If you kill Oodokawa like an AoT character, you might as well be shoving your hand into the world and tearing out the red ribbon of fate binding the characters.

No. I believe 'probably' Odokawa is Alive. Cuz, when in Hospital. Odokawa said that he now remember "The girl that he see on 4th October." Thats highly posible is the killer, Wadagaki Sakura the fake Yuki Mitsuya. Cuzz, Odokawa always can recognize someone face. Thus, I believe in offs-screen, Odokawa is already tell that to Police. And bait Wadagaki Sakura to his car. Waiting while resting. And that is the last scene of Episode 13. But, yes it still my Wild Theory. I hope they make an OVA that can help Us know the fate of Odokawa in that last Cliffhanger Scene.

For me it had a very slow start (due to my crippling Tiktok attention span) and I had to doublecheck to saw everwhere it being so highly rated & praised. What for? I couldn't understand why. Until I kept watching. Theres alot I could praise about it, but the smooth dialouge really stood out for me, it was so good. It's a different type of peak from what I'm used to when I watch anime, but peak nevertheless.

I figured it out at episode 1 that he perceived others as animals. And I figured out the killer right after the moment she said she got 4th place and wanted fame etc. but I thought it was too easy and it must be a red herring. A fantastic anime, hidden gem. How I figured it out btw, was because of the Homo Sapiens. It's too "odd" (hihi) that a duo would call themselves that, since there shouldn't be any humans left in this society of anthropomorphic animals. Then later other hints, like name dropping their own spieces but saying they are not stereotypical. Later there were actual animals... like dogs owning dogs. And I am sure there are so many more early hints I missed, I would definitely like to hear others on it too. But the satisfaction this show gives, awesome.

You should listened to the Audio Drama, it's on youtube. It reveals a lot of the unexplained plot. Like the Pink Pen in the last scene. *spoiler* The Pink Pen is a pen called "Lucky Ballpoint Pen". The rumor is that people who has the pen will be lucky. You can find the pen lying on specific scene in each episode. The truth is, the pen is actually a bugged audio device, it can listened to conversation and transmit it over a radio wave. The original owner of the pen is the Giraffe guy. The audio drama is a short podcast where the giraffe guy broadcast what the pen listened in each episode. It reveals a lot of extra bits. And it reveals more of what happened in the ending, how that pen gets in the hand of that person in the ending scene.

Sakura was getting desperate at the end despite her cold aloofness. She was the major suspect after nikaido and she has a likely motivation with being the 4th choice. And I'd say even if she killed Odokawa in a way that left no evidence of her involvement she would still be caught. This is also highlighted by the different murder weapons, a rope is clean but ultimately time consuming while a knife is quick but dirty

And over a year later we FINALLY have hard confirmation (SPOILERS): ODOKAWA EARNED HIS HAPPY ENDING! Though Odokawa did not remember her outright he survives her attempted stabbing. At every opportunity, Sakura has relied on pure luck and happenstance to get away with her crimes. It even turns out that she failed to silence Taeko as she also appeared in the hospital during the end credits in the same frame that reveals Sakura has been arrested on Assault and Attempted Murder charges with the strong implication that she'll be investigated for Yuki's murder. Given how sloppy she had been up to that point and how Odokawa has survived much stronger and better planned attempts to murder him, it seems justified that his luck would win out in the end.

Just finished watching this anime and what I can say is, it's really a hidden gem. Luckily the movie will be released soon in English, and we will get some closure hopefully. I do hope the killer actually gets caught and put to justice. I honestly thought the killer was one of the idols too as the show progressed, then I figured out it was her. Seriously though, absolutely incredible anime.
