Personally mototors and FFS are a lot of the reason I don't enter kayak tournaments.I think a great compromise would be different divisions,some for traditionalists and some that allow greater trchnology to be used.

As a paddler who thinks the motors for kayaks are stupid expensive, you had me for a second. I just bit the bullet and got a garmin sonar unit so maybe one day i can afford the livescope transducer! Seriously though, why does a bottom of the line kayak motor cost as much as a top of the line jackhammer? Working in construction they seem like little cheap crappy pieces of plastic for several thousand dollars? Just my opinion!

Limit the battery size on the yak. You get 30 amps for anything you want to use (ffs, motor, AI, coffee maker etc.) but that is all.

I heard one former pro angler mention something that stuck in my head about forward-facing sonar. It is a tool to locate fish, if you use it too much, you might lose some of your skills to find and hook the fish. I am not against using sonar, I have a Garmin on my kayak that I use as a tool. I can not afford forward-facing unit. It is the skill that I am lacking to catch them, but I go out and try.

Here is one suggestion for making things a little more even: allow paddlers to use 2 rods at once. Trolling two rods would allow paddlers to be a little more productive while moving from spot to spot and having their hands full paddling.

Chad Hoover I really think FFS is here to stay just like motors were back then. I could possibly see a future where they might have certain trails that are FFS in B.A.S.S and MLF but it’s here to stay. I really think backing off that rule for at lease 1 more season just to see where it goes. I have a terrible feeling it might lower the head count in KBF. This is just my opinion not a statement. As a kayak fisherman in the Great lakes area that has three kayaks, two motorized and one pedal drive, I do not understand your ruling here. One issue has absolutely nothing to do with the other. Either. You are a boat or you are a kayak. That's where the discussion comes in regarding motors. On a kayak, even with a motor fully loaded, you're probably only going three and a half to 4 miles per hour, which means that you can only cover the distance that is much shorter than a boat. The biggest issue with a kayak is the step up from the paddle to either a pedal drive or motor. Fishing is entirely different if you have to paddle versus either pedaling or motor. Once you make the jump to a pedal or a motor The only real difference is that a pedal drive person will become tired quicker. For safety reasons, a motor is much safer on large bodies of water because if an angler has to go a couple miles out into a lake, they are going to be more tired and therefore have less ability to recover in a dangerous situation. The reason why the banning of forward-facing sonar is important is an entirely different issue. Now we're talking about overfishing many lakes. So while a motor focuses in on speed versus a boat, the only upside over a pedal drive. Is that an angler is less likely to be tired. A pedal drive person can many times go faster if they simply pedal faster and they're never going to run out of battery power which means they can get back to the port or the launch easier than if a motor drive battery dies. Forward-facing sonar has nothing to do with that. It has to do with a human's ability to find fish much easier. If we allow forward-facing sonar why don't we just drain the lake and have you walk over and pick up the 10 lb bass because it's the same thing.

Your "compromise" is I want an open relationship and you want an apple pie for dessert. In the 2nd example, one had nothing to do with the other. YOUR compromise with FF sonar is, motor or FF sonar. They are COMPLETELY unrelated. FF sonar harms fishing. Motors just get you to the spot you want to with less effort. Unrelated topics is not a compromise. Strange, you think it is. The argument against FF sonar is that people are harvesting too many fish. That is not related to the speed at which you are getting to your bass spot AND pedal drives can get there faster at times. The motor/pedal issue is resolved by simply changing the tournament hours longer or shorter and not requiring someone to be back at a dock by a specific time. Everything is electronic like apps and phones, videos, simple fixes. Hell, all bass tournaments should eliminate time check ins at docks. No one needs to have 2 200hp engines on a bass boat, that ruins the environment and shoreline. So, as mentioned, your logic is very flawed. Sorry. I love you and your videos but your decision is inconsistent and makes no sense.
