Thanks Warren. I've been subscribed for 3-4 years now, and I knew nothing about working on serious Ag. equipment, my experience in that area is limited to my old L2550 Kubota, (and it ain't serious). After watching you work I do know this...a lot of the stuff you working is more complex than I imagined. And some seem kinda fragile. I know those rigs have a lot of hours on them, and they do a very specific job. Thanks again for taking us along.

Hi Warren, I just would like to say how much I enjoy your videos. Especially this particular one where you were able to video every particular way to get this bearing out. I know this is not easy and you made it look so easy. The lighting was perfect and you could see every stroke of the wrench. Are you sure you don't want to drop all the wrenches and get into the videography business. Lol!!!Lol!!!!😄😄😄😄 That was such awesome footage. One thing that has always amazed me about you is how great you are with your craft and are one of the most honest KZbinrs out there. In today's society we have lost the handshake method that I grew up with since my father had a construction company. Well I must say I would have no problem shaking your hand and know that I was getting the job done correctly and most likely add money to the bill so you were paid a fair an honest wage. I hope know one takes advantage of your services since you are so knowledgeable in your craft and one of the most HONEST businessman out there. Keep up the great work and videos and May God Bless you and your family. They are all so lucky to have you. Lastly, I hope that you get another vacation with your wife since she has to be a very patient individual since you put so many hours in. A lot of wives today have forgot about this principle. They want you home at 4:30 and make six figures. Keep up the great work and so many people on KZbin must think the same I do since I always walk away learning something or a trick to get the part off. I hope the rest of the week goes well for you.

Thanks for the video, Warren. I have been going through Warren Withdrawal. I bought one of those Mueller-Kueps wrench extenders and that is as handy as a thumb in a mitten. It’s a good day when there is a new Western Truck and Tractor Repair Video. Appreciate your time and sharing your knowledge. Wonder if that bearing fails because it is on the drive side? All of the torque goes through that bearing to drive the head. That’s my non engineer opinion.

I wonder if the design 'engineer' was thinking about the torque applied to the 'first' gear and if it takes more force than the others since its being driven first and then transfers force to the rest of the gear train. Maybe that's where you need a double deep groove bearing to enable it to last longer or am I thinking wrong ? Josie is growing into a really good looking adult dog.

Thank you for the upload, really interesting as always. It’s never the wrong way, and there’s always better ways, but if it works for person repairing it and safe enough, that’s all that matters. Those guys could do with power washing those 500r’s after use, that built up mud ain’t doing that drive train any good (that ain’t saying the kit needs to be immaculate, I know that it’s a working farm).

I ran a Hesston 8550s for several years and never had issues like that with it. I should add that my boss was a BOSS and a stickler for maintenance. We changed the oil on everything every winter. We changed some in the summer too if the running hours ran out.

Hey Warren, get one of those powerful switchable magnets, they really help with holding a lot of stuff and should help hold the carriage bolts in place while you tighten it from the other side. Being switchable means you don't have to fight it to get it off and it isn't a pain to store like a permanent magnet. Check out Magswitch Magsquare, mainly used for welding, but has many other uses.

I am sure that all that mud being picked up with the alfa-alfa must increase the load on the cutter heads drive train, leading to premature bearing wear/failure.

this is like deja view , you just did 2 sets of these girls. As mentioned , the operator caught this girl before she became a money pit. I noticed when inserting the bearing , as you had it in the vice and pressured the "C" clip into place , your hammer "TONE" changed thru the vice , inturn it was telling you it was going ito place . Sometime machines & tools talk to you. Interesting how the " Machines " change as crops change during the season. Hay squizers , fertilizer's , now combines . Love the ( fix it videos ) and the making of " plan B " tools from clutch tools to transmission alignment tools . More than 1 way to skin the cat !
@lvance32362 жыл бұрын
I can't help but think of your comment several videos ago how the operators of that hay equipment must "drive 'em like they stole them". The sad reality is it's hard to keep anything running very long when the only thing the hired help seem to take pride in is how fast they can break the machine. Maybe if they had to spend their machine's downtime out in the field with a scythe and a pitchfork it might help motivate them to be more careful...

My guess the reason that first bearing fails is because it's built in bulk along with the other bearings down the gear train so it's failing because it has the most torque applied to it as the first bearing to drive all the other gears? I'll bet if they had made the first few bearings a little more heavy duty than the rest down the gear train, they wouldn't have failed as quickly?
@dieselhatz42472 жыл бұрын
I find this on gear trains and the like, the drive one always fails first. I’d agree with you and your synopsis.
@merlepatterson2 жыл бұрын
@@dieselhatz4247 Yes, if you think about it, that's a lot of side-loading going through just a few ball bearings at the initial pressure point of contact on the inner and outer race of the first bearing. (most likely tons)

My pet hate: people who don’t phone you back when their living depends on getting stuff sold ?? most hated excuse (“I looked and we didn’t have one”). Because you know the lazy s o b didn’t look, like he didn’t bother to call and give you an answer. Years ago my favourite storemen would say “I think we have one, I’ll just go and check (meaning “ I need a cigarette” ) and in ten minutes would be back with both the items it could be, for you to see if you recognised the right one. What grieves me is that there might be one on a shelf at the back, that fell off the computer inventory years ago, and because nobody knows their stock or ever looks at it,I might spend days trying to find an obscure part, when it’s been there for years, ten minutes away, waiting…

Could be that since that first module doesn’t have a gear on the other side, the oil is getting tunneled away from that bearing during operation. Don’t know where the oil level normally sits, but if it can be increased it might help. There should be enough surface area to take the extra heat from shearing the oil.

The reason that bearing goes out is because it's under the most load of all those gears. It has to drive the whole assembly. Or so that's my theory.

Hi Warren. I can't understand why the farmers don't have a weekly P.M. schedule and pressure wash and air blow the cabs and lube and inspect these machines - sure the equipment is used every day during cutting (harvesting, plowing, etc) but certainly it could be done at some point, the benefits would far outweigh the cost for emergency maintenance. It seems that most owners just run their equipment til it breaks.
