2002...fresh college grad, got fired from my 1st job, got a gig at my local record store. Hip hop was getting stale, Electronic music was peaking. Picked this up on a whim and fell in love instantly. They definitely rank up there as one of the musical heroes of our generation.

The first thing i saw was that they were from Texas so i thought it was a country band and was just about to close then i saw it was Austin, Texas so i looked at it and saw it was Indie Rock, then i came here. Thank you MTv2. I would have never known about this band and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club if it wasn't for that channel. Back when they played 95% music videos and MTv played around 35-45% music videos in the early 2000's. Also, back in 2002 during the good ol' Windows XP days and Google was fairly new and very reliable, Justin Chancellor (bassist of TOOL) had a small record shop in either L.A. or San Francisco and he picked the albums he liked that he wanted to sell. You could check out the inventory on what albums were for sale. This album was one of them. TOOL was and is my favorite band. I always thought that was super cool though.

I remember when I moved out of my parents' house and stayed with some friends in Seattle for a while, listening to this album in a shared house stoned as hell with a bunch of people I didn't even know, on one of my first nights on my own. It was one of the first times I had ever heard some really good "underground" alt music - usually if it was not on MTV or the radio I probably hadn't heard it. I don't know any way to describe the feeling of hearing this album other than that it was strange music, shared with strange people, but I loved it. It almost seems sad to listen to it now since those days of wonder are gone. But for many years there I beat the steering wheel to shit in my vehicle cranking up Trail of Dead

My best friend in high school in atlanta, we were seniors in 2004, his brother worked at google in seattle at the time. His brother flew home to atlanta for the week to be with family and hung out with us (his bro and I) in his basement (which was like a big computer lan center since their dad was big into IT networking at that time). My friend and I were big pot heads at that time. My friends seattle google bro showed me this band (and this song) when I was high in his basement playing video games. I thought his bro was basically the coolest guy on the planet coz I'd never met a super nerd quite like him. He wasn't plain in any way, he was actually incredibly cool and unique while being a super nerd (this was 2004)... He sort of inspired me and I ended up listening to this band a lot. I don't know if the band was just bigger in Seattle or something, or maybe theres just people with better taste in music that live in seattle.
