@@sarabyrd3374 CBT stands for cognitive-behavioral therapy, DBT is a subtype/offshoot of that. So if that didn't help, CBT probably won't either. Psychoanalysis is your best bet for personality disorders; the effectiveness of therapy will be directly proportional to how much work you(!) put in (so yes, find a therapy style that works for you in that regard!); don't fall for anything that sounds like a miracle. And do stay away from the folx people ;)

I’ve benefitted from therapy. My former therapist never affirmed my OCD illogical thoughts and fears. Rather, she had me think logically and outside the box. I could never be as far as I am today without her. Unfortunately a lot of my conservative friends and relatives refuse to go because of the loud woke therapists. It’s very sad.

My manager went behind my back and hired a transwoman to work on MY team and then told me 10mins before my shift that I have to refer to him as "they/them." NO!! I only call him by his name. Not every therapist is a good therapist. My own older brother is a licensed therapist and when my mom kicked me out and my then boyfriend now husband took me in no second thoughts what did my brother say to my mom? That she should tell my husband to leave me on the side of the highway so that I have no choice but to come home like I should have asked to do in the first place instead of leaving when I was kicked out. I was a 19 year old woman he encouraged my mother to try to convince my husband to leave on a highway in California in august with no money. So yeah just passing your courses doesn’t make you a good therapist

It’s an insult to people such as the Loving couple who fought for their own marriage and others. As a therapist, it can truly hurt people when you blindly accept and affirm everything a person has done and thinks. You have to find the areas that are causing distress in a person and help them figure out how to overcome it. You can't just listen to people and say "why are you upset, I accept you as you are." You can accept someone as they are as far as personally, but if they're wanting a therapist, then something is wrong, and it's a therapist's job to help the person overcome that which is mentally harming them.

I studied the DSM5 and got my masters in social work at the only university on earth for the Deaf. We are taught to follow the NASW Code of Ethics. One of the things we are taught is to “believe” the clients/patients, because whatever their story is it is possible that we are the first person to ever believe them, and that can help them a lot to build rapport and open up. We are there to be supportive for things such as listening, non judgmental, providing alternative framing of what they said, letting them know if something they do is considered normal or a symptom of something to explore deeper before diagnosis, etc. I am not sure I would word it as supporting all they do as in saying “yay, go girl! That is what you should do no matter what others say!” We should be there to listen if they say they are depressed, think they are transgender, are being bullied, are hearing voices, considering running away from home, etc., and having on our faces, tone of voice, and body language no appearance of shock, horror, anger, laughter, etc. This helps them to feel safe with us to open up and share things, so that we can sometimes try to give them alternative options to bad behaviors, explain potential consequences if they do not stop going down that path, offer resources to help them help themselves out of a bad situation. I would not feel comfortable receiving services from a person like this woman who is making videos saying things this way, because it seems like an advertisement to get people to come give them money for services of not providing some of the help people need, and that means boundary setting and being able to see things through the eyes of others around them. Example: client comes to appointments late, very late, sometimes I could still see them though. They state all their therapists and doctors have eventually turned them down as remaining a patient due to missing every appointment because they “cannot wake up and are sleepy all day.” Client later divulges that they stay up all night on the internet, playing games, and smoking pot. Client is told that perhaps they are addicted to gaming and pot and the internet, as they had been in recovery for other harder addictions. Client is told if they were to quit smoking pot, and turn the lights off at night, their brains may reset so that they do not sleep all day long, and then they could make appointments and hold down a job. Client refused to admit they had an addiction to pot, said it wasn’t possible to be addicted to it, and had no desire to quit being late, sleeping all day, and being late missing appointments. After they missed the next appointment, they were terminated from services. Lesson eventually WILL be learned when enablers they live with stop enabling them and set boundaries, but all medical and mental health providers have now set those boundaries so if they want to get better they have to think about what was said and take responsibility for their actions. You cannot get this if the therapist is going to smile and validate behavior that is harming the patient. You cannot get mentally and physically well if the professional is more about support and validation of all your behaviors as appropriate when it is harming you.
