I disagree completely, that's the only one I don't have a problem with him losing. Tobias had 2 then top tier legendaries and some ace strategies as well, an assumed 4 other legendaries as well, there was no way any of Ash's 50 or so Pokemon could've beaten Tobias.

that's the point tho. the creators put an unbeatable trainer in ash's way with 2!! overpowered legendaries. some of the pokemon get oneshot and in the final tobias' darkrai beats the complete enemy lineup. the fans were hoping to see ash win his first tournament and tobias was the biggest "fuck you" a creator has ever done. this #1 was at least exciting to watch, a "fuck you" nonetheless, especially with the pokemon anniversary in mind but at least interesting. tobias was just bullshit.

It was the buildup. You'd think that after all the time and experience gained from the other journeys, which he had shown throughout the XYZ series, would indicate that he actually had a chance at winning the leagues this time, but instead he gets to 2nd place. It's not as bad as the Tobias incident if you ask me.

After having the anime run this long without a win? Yes, I agree. But, again I say, it's not as bad as the one in Sinnoh. They needed a super op character to stomp Ash so he couldn't win the league. The writers clearly had no idea where to take the series if Ash became champion, and they won't just end the series because its purpose is, in essence, to be one big advertisement to market pokemon to kids ( or the general audience in this case). Sinnoh was actually a great series arc, but because of that, they had wrote themselves into a corner by making Ash into an actual competent character. Not just competent, though. Ash was at the top of his game at that time. He had his strongest team ever, and had a real shot at the champion title. But, we can't have that now can we? Thus enters Tobias. A bullshit character who was just a Dues Ex Machina meant to keep Ash from the "first" league victory he ever had a chance at obtaining. Then comes Unova, where they make him a borderline imbecile, and completely incompetent, so as to not to repeat their previous "mistake" of making Ash an actual decent trainer again for the sake of advertisement. But look what happens in Kalos. They basically built Ash up to knock him down again. And for what? I'll Give you 3 guesses. . .

SPOILERS: In #1, the reasons why Ash losing the league was so tragic for everybody is because it was the FIRST time Ash ever made it to the Finals IN ANY LEAGUE, he had an amazing team, including an equivalent of a Mega on his team, and the story just pretty much lead everybody to believe that Ash would win the league. Heck, even the battle was in Ash's favor the whole time (Charizard X took dozens of hits, whereas Greninja just took 3…😕). Nothing made any sense when Ash lost that league.

Dan Marsh Nah, Berserk is godly, top tier even, but it's not the best manga. Fullmetal Alchemist, Death Note and even the prior mentioned One Piece all have a much greater and vast mythology that far outclass Berserk's medieval-fantasy storyline. Blood, gore, rape and misery don't always make a storyline better than those with a more kid-friendly approach. Granted, you can argue Berserk has the greatest Swordsman in all of manga, which I'd agree with (Kenshin being the only other contender for the part).

The Ho-oh is preventing as from becoming Pokemon master. Ho-oh promises the viewer eternal happiness. This means that Ash will stay the same age forever, not having to experience the hardships of adults. This also means that Ash will never be Pokemon master because once you have achieved your ultimate goal in life...what else is there. The primary issue fans with Ash's defeat to Alain stemmed from the high expectations of Ash's newest team that was comprised of some of his strongest Pokemon. But if Ash had won, there would be little incentive for the anime to continue since that would've meant the series would've either needed a new protagonist. If Watchmojo really wanted to add something from Pokemon to this list, they should've either complained about the quality of Sun and Moon animations or the fact that Cilan was Ash's companion for several years.

Might I remind you that it was never explained anywhere whatsoever at all what a "Pokemon Master" actually is? Why would you assume that winning a *single* Regional Championship is all it takes to qualify? Also, since when is it impossible for someone who's reached a goal they've set earlier in their lives to set themselves a new goal and pursue *that*? The answer to both questions, of course, is lazy, unimaginative writers who don't know how to properly develop a protagonist to a point where they can *keep* said development for a prolonged period of time -- i.e. for more than one Region.

Hell we dont even know how the actual champion/elite 4 even works in the anime. We know the 4 can challendge the champ to try and unseat them but do you have to beat the pokemon league before being able to go after the 4 or can you just go after the champion. Or just 8 badges and you can just do the game version. The only league thats ever really been explained was the battle frontier.

To be fair, EVERYTHING in Oreimo is terrible. Gundam ZZ was only made more-lighthearted because Tomino hated how dark and depressing Zeta was. Dragon Ball Super is a blight on the Dragon Ball franchise; Introduces an unlikable Gary Stu, devolves into brainless slice of life situations, makes Goku an even bigger moron, makes Gohan almost useless, takes previously mentioned Gary Stu and clones him 11 times, has the multiverse threatened by a space toddler who doesn't know any better, and overall shitty animation. The only good thing about Dragon Ball Super is that it's not GT. #1 is pretty much why I hate the Pokemon anime.

Put bluntly, Ash *is* the problem with the Pokemon anime as a adaptation and advertisement of the games. If they'd fallowed the general idea of his game counterpart Red and had him "eventually" win the Kanto League Championship & than take off for new horizons they could have started a cycle of main series characters thus both keeping with the games & allowing a character to actually develop. "But what about Pikachu?!" What about him? Just have a Pikachu be present in the show in some way, treat him/her the same way Ice Age treats Skritt. That way the mascot remains but doesn't have to be featured in the protagonist's team in every generation.

Akane and Kogami's dynamic was a major factor of the show's success, and the second season was worse off without it, but most of the reasons the second season sucks all of the ass is to do with a lack of understanding of the mechanics of the Sibyl System and a mishandling of the new and old characters that just felt off when the second season was handed off to be made by a different team than the first season. Also, Kogami couldn't have been in the second season, as that would have retroactively undermined the powerful conclusion of the first season. 2. Fair 1. Fair 1.

Here is how to make Number 1 even worse: -Alain didn't even WANTED to enter the League before meeting Ash, and after they separated, Alain appeared already getting his freaking 8th badge! -Ash had draw and lost against Paul and Gary in many occasions, so it would made much more satisfying that Ash beat them on their match on the league, which actually happened in Johto and Sinnoh. Ash only lost against Alain in all previous fights before the League. -Ash had promised to himself, his mom, friends and even a random dude that he would WIN the League. Alain won by boner power alone. -Greninja beating a Mega Sceptile to later lose to a Mega Charizard is beyond illogical and disappointing, even for Pokémon anime standards. -Even freaking Team Rocket believed Ash could win!! -Ash didn't get any little bit angry or sad! I think it's a little unfair to ZZ Gundam to say it ruined the anime. It makes sense in the continuity as to why Judau was more light hearted then Kamille and Amuro. Both were raised in Military families. Amuro's father was the lead designer for the RX 78-2, and Kamille's father did the same for the Gundam MK II. Both were raised primarily by people who would have been stricter, and had a personal stake in their children understanding how terrible war really is. Judau, by contrast, was raised by his peers. His naive nature and lack of understanding about consequences made his character development fantastic. He literally had to learn the hard way.

Frankly it makes sense that Kogami isn't in Psycho-Pass 2. Spoiler warning: Kogami murders the season 1 main antagonist, he would be physically unable to stay an enforcer and if he came back he would be killed on the spot. That being said his training with Akane leads her to think things through and have moments where in deep thought he acts as a second voice in her head to help her look at things from another angle, which makes it work well.

Ash losing the Kalos League is definitely a huge bummer. Up to that point, the XY series was quickly becoming my favorite Pokemon season. It truly felt like the series was growing up in a way, with some actual mature stories and some really good character development that the series had been lacking for some time. And the fact that it was basically Ash losing to Alaine for the THIRD TIME just ruined the whole thing. Frankly, it made everything feel pointless in the end. It's sad that the Pokemon Company continues to show that it ultimately doesn't care for good stories or characters. It'll come up with the dumbest excuses to keep it nothing more than a glorified ad for the games.

There was a series on netflix some years back that was called Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom. I rather enjoyed it though the ending did go a little crazy, but what completely ruined the series for me was the last minute. The main character and the girl have pretty much completely eliminated the branch of the mafia they worked for, they're together, the girl goes and stands under this beautiful tree and turns to look at the protagonist. both of them smile at each other... then we hear a gunshot and the protagonist falls to his knees. Major Gutpunch for me and my friends. If you ever watch this series,turn it off immediately after she stands under the tree, you'll thank me for it later
