Glad to see Alien: Isolation as #1. I just recently finished that game and while it had some technical flaws here and there, I seriously enjoyed it and it constantly scared the shit out of me. Every time I encountered the Xenomorph it found some new way to surprise me with its abilities (jumping into a vent, pulling me out from under a table, still attacking me after I hit it with the flamethrower, sneaking up behind me and impaling me with its tail.) It's just such a stunning experience. And the "Crew Expendable" DLC where you get to play as the characters from the original Alien movie was a very cool touch.

+NoWayWiki it is pretty accurate, but I would have rated Outlast at number 1, solely for the Whistleblower DLC. Eddie Gluskin actually gives me nightmares, and I'm not exaggerating. The fact that he, an ordinary man, can do such horrific things, makes him way scarier than any monster. Alien Isolation ruined the fear aspect by giving you weapons to fight back with.

Here's the thing. FNAF is a good series, but not a good "horror" series. I think of it as more of a tense strategy game. In my opinion the series is not bad. I think the lore is more why I like it. The 4th one has the most tension of all of them and is a nice change in direction from the others. I understand how someone would think the series sucks. That's fine. I totally get it. If you want to get scared, don't buy this game. If you're into deep lore and strategy based games, then give it a try.

Hira sheikh I haven't watched any PewDiePie and it doesn't interest me. To be fair, I have not actually played any games on this list. I've watched a playthrough of REmake and it left me scared to sleep for days afterwards; FNAF 4, while by far the scariest of the games in my opinion, doesn't leave nearly as much of a mark because the only real scare it offers is jumpscares. They can be frightening at first but you quickly get desensitized to it. Also, yeah, it's incredibly immature to tell me to "go die" because my opinion differs from yours. If you'd look at reviews for the FNAF games, especially the latest, you'll see quite a few people don't like it for the reason I stated.

I tried FNAF. In the dark. With headphones. Alone. After maybe the first two jumpscares the game became a mildly tense point and click strategy game that I got bored of quickly. For all the people hating on FNAF: It's not the whole series, it was just the first. It was so popular because besides having tons of jumpscares, the setting was really creepy and kept you under a lot of pressure since you had to pay attention to your generator power and the position of the animatronics. I think there wouldn't be this much hate if the community wasn't so defensive and if the 1st game was the only game.

So glad to see alien isolation getting the recognition it deserves. It’s the best and scariest horror game i’ve ever played. The thing is, it manages to keep a knot in your stomach and your pulse at 100+ due to the creepy and tense atmosphere. You really don’t ever feel safe (even when you know you are). The absolute worst part is the hospital early on when you’re completely defenseless, just gotta bite down and go for it. It also doesn’t rely on jumpscares to retain its “scary” status, but those that exist are well placed and often don’t pose any threat but rather as a way to keep you on your toes. Aside from the horror aspects, it’s also very well made, with gorgeous visuals, great optimization, great production value with tons of attention to detail and dripping in atmosphere. One of those games i wish i could play for the first time again.

Splatted_Sailor I think the way Five Nights at Freddy's induces fear into players isn't by the Jump-scares them self, but the feeling of tension that's always present no matter what, it's sort of like being trapped in a confined space with 4 people trying to hunt you down and murder you, you know their coming, but you're never sure when, and because you're trying to survive for a certain period of time, you're constantly under a huge amount of stress, trying to keep everything in order but you feel too hopeless to do anything about it, it's not really the delivery that makes FNaF scary, but more the feeling that comes before it.

lol nope, people who hate it actually know what a good horror game is, I played 1 and 2 and it wasn't scary there's a big difference between a scary game and a jumpy game, FNAF is a jumpy game, sure the room is pretty dark but you just stand there waiting for the jumpscares so it's not scary at all, gonna give you an example of true HORROR game, Until Dawn, if you kids don't know what it is look it up, the game has great mechanics, great and clear story, so if you fnaf fanboys keep saying the story is great it's false, the game has no story, the fanboys have to make up with teories that fill youtube, that's why it sucks not having a clear story, anyway, back to Until Dawn, the game has perfectly timed scares and a really REALLY creepy atmosphere

To those of you who say FNAF is not scary, you should be smart enough to know that fear is subjective. You might not find it scary, but others do. The fear doesn't just come from the jumpscares. It's the atmosphere and feeling of helplessness as the enemy makes its way to you. Many of you guys tell us to respect your opinions, yet you never even respect ours to begin with. It's honestly really childish and is the main reason I think the haters are worse than the fandom.

Yes, fear is subjective, but, there is a difference between actually fearing something and getting startled at something, and FNAF falls on the 2nd, i wont like to you, i find the lore and story actually good, but the gameplay is just not for me, i find it boring and the jumps scares just an annoyance, they just startle you because they are compatible louder and more animated that 90% of the game, wile games like Alien Isolation create an actual immersive atmosphere, and yes, i know its unfair to compare the two, but they were on the list, another example i can give you is Fatal Frame and Silent Hill, is not just the atmosphere, but the fact that they are longer games, and you actually not just fear for the creatures, but you fear that you could get killed and potentially lost HOURS of gameplay, and not to mention toying with the idea of facing, not the monsters in the game, but the monsters on your head.
