How is it a souls-like game when there's no bonfire, no respawn on death, no loss of experience when you die? Just adding a few action-based mechanics from action games does not make it Souls-like. Heck, there are even visual cues as to which defense to use and the window to parry, evade or interrupt with a palm strike is so generous.

It really depends on what you mean with souls like. For me the most essential essence of a souls game is a melee focused game with high difficulty that encourages or even forces you to learn enemy movesets in order to win, using dodging or parrying. That is in contrast to for instance combo based games, like dynasty warriors has usually been, where the goal is less learning enemy attacks, and more getting an endless combo where the enemy is never able to attack in the first place. To me souls combat is a feeling. It is about facing an opponent that can and will kick your ass if you don't respect them. An opponent where you can't just rush in and mash buttons, you need to pay complete attention. The feeling of mastery when defeating such an opponent is unlike anything else, and it is what I play souls games for. That is the exact feeling I got when fighting Lu Bu in the demo.

Modders already esentially added the ability to play as other officers in the PC Demo of DW Origins, so at this point it would be a pretty bad look for TecmoKoei if they dont give you that ability to do so in the final game. If modders could do it that easily theres no budget/time excuse for them. I'll still get the game and understand what they are going for, but they also need to understand people just want to play as their favorite officers.

One thing to note is that it only worked for officers that use 1 of the 9 weapons, e.g. Xu Chu/Dian Wei etc it won't work. But yes I have seen the videos for example Jia Xu etc being playable. Which makes me think they will just release them as DLC.. When modders just do it quickly for free lmao.

Not really, the ability is not a big deal for anyone to add, but people put up with way more jank and things being unfinished if it's a mod than if it's made by the dev. So while I understand it's not a 1-1 comparison. If the devs do it, then the only thing people will say is they are lazy and everyone plays the same. Devs decided the OC is the focus, and they want that to be polished and unique.

It is a budget issue and strategic decision I think. Similar to DW6, limited movesets/weapons for characters because of the complexity of the new mechanics this time, so one char with all movesets outweighs all chars with 9/10 movesets, they made the hard choice

Ilike mostly everything from what iplayed via the demo except for the musou attacks (they feel bland, weak and not that useful,, especially the normal musou) Combat is fire and graphics too (ido miss the fast paced DW9 gameplay when you make fully use of the trigger attacks and atq speed gems). DWO is a step to the right direction to attract a new audiance and old fans and iam sure they will go back to mainline titles built from DWO assets

The main issue I have with this game is that it's very clear that it's a test release with many features from older releases scraped/scaled down, but they're still charging full price for it (350 bucks where I live). The only reason I'm still considering buying is because I can afford it and I loved the gameplay on the demo and what was showed in trailers, but I'm afraid the game will fail because of the price tag.

I can look past only having 9-10 weapons and not having some classic characters in the game/ unplayable but man why did they make the protagonist so boring and plain with no ability to customize anything about him? Since he’s so quiet it would’ve been nice to have some customization to at least let the player connect in some way since we can’t pick our faves. Honestly other than that I’m not mad this game and I think it’s a good step in the right direction after the last game.

I know he of course has a story but as far as playing the game im pretty sure his personality and how quiet and reserved he is isn’t gonna change by the time it comes out I think he’s gonna stay how he is 😭 I’m still copping it I still think the game itself will be fun and like he said it’s really the base for future installments so I’ll just have to wait lol

To be honest, i'm one of the very few people that like the idea that the new MC is NOT customizable. Like it lets him to have his own identity instead of a blank slate that had no character at all. I think it's more interesting this way especially the recent trend of customizable MCs like in Wo Long or Baldur's Gate 3 and i honestly am quite tires of it.

I see your point. One thing I found distinctive about MC design are his eyes. The shadow underneath his eyes gives him a tired look. It helps to showcase that the world around him is dreary due to war. Plus he has monolids. Perhaps it's only my experience but I find it rare in video game characters. So it's nice sight for me to see.

My expectations are that origins will be as good as dw7&8. Which after 9 is a good thing I guess. But still I think it’s time for a bigger shift with the ip.
