But we _do_ have a canon explanation for the water vs snow! Inklings are made _entirely out of ink._ This means they are denser than water and don't float! When they sink, their body is subject to the difference in pressure to the water, so they kinda pop, leaving their gear behind. Stepping on snow is okay because it doesn't have pressure like water.

I personally think it's more of: You know how osmosis and diffusion gets things inside and outside of the cell? Well, the inside of an inkling cell is made of the color ink they have. When they swim inside their own ink, they regain ink because the ink concentration from the outside is greater and is going to diffuse more ink into the cell. That means that they recharge their own bodies when they swim in ink. When inklings step in water, because there is less water inside the inkling cell, water will enter it. However, to get it out, they have to use active transport (if you don't know, search it up) and pump the water out of their cells. When they step into water, the cells are continuously pumping water outside. This requires energy, and thus inklings have to basically use a lot of energy to go in water. However, when an inkling steps fully into water, their cells cannot use enough energy to pump all the water out, thus drowning the inkling by bursting its cells. This may be graphic, but since they are made of ink, they just burst into some ink and the ink gets diluted in the water. This also explains how if you step in enemy ink, you take damage. Your cells are actively soaking in enemy ink and you are constantly using energy to pump the enemy ink out; however, since your cell cannot differenciate the difference between your ink and the enemy ink, the enemy ink stays in your cell and you take damage (stays until you get back into your own ink, where the inkling's cells diffuse their own ink to replace the enemy ink). Snow will not enter the inkling cells because snow molecules are much too big to enter an inkling cell; water can, because water molecules are smaller. Snow uses water molecules and forms a specific structure with them, making it too big to enter an inkling cell. When it rains, inklings will soak up some water in their cells, but the active transport method is able to pump the water out of their cells faster than they get in. To change color, they just need to stay in enemy ink for a long time, as the enemy ink will slowly but surely replace the original ink in an inkling's cell. The fuzzy ink is made of a material that diffuses very fast into the cell, as it is highly concentrated. This is why the inkling changes on almost instant contact with the ink When the inkling takes damage from, let's say a charger, the charger fires high pressurized ink. This means more concentration outside the cell, and thus the inkling soaks up a lot of enemy ink. When it soaks up a lot of enemy ink, the cell is unable to get rid of all of the ink that quickly, and bursts before doing so. This also proves why only full charges kill; the ink is not pressurized enough, and therefore not concentrated enough, to make the inkling cell burst before they pump the ink out. This explains most weapons, and how healing works. Respawn points make the inkling a certain color, not the other way around. Because they use pressurized ink cartages, the ink is near immediately diffused into the cell, causing the inkling to change color quickly. This is how I believe they work in singleplayer and multiplayer. Each respawn point has its own unique ink color, which is also how they track who respawns where. Single player stages were originally incomplete; the octarians were still building the stages. The few that were there are essentially guards guarding hte unfinished level. Why is this important? This is why respawn points exist in these levels. They use the respawn points for practice against the real threat, and since they hadn't finished training or the construction of the level, they didn't remove the respawn points. This also explains why so much construction equipment exists. Yes, I know that they said it in the video, but I just wanted to expand on it and expand on the details. This theory explains: Taking damage in enemy ink, drowning, not dying by just stepping in water, snow, fuzzy ink, changing color, dying from enemy attacks, and recharging ink.

I assume the respawn points are set/programmed to bring teammates back, and to color them as well. They do have some kind of forcefield that blocks enemy ink....

My idea with the chaos versus order Splatfest influence is that it impacted which side inklings would represent as a society. Basically, what I’m saying is that I think Alterna is the order representation, and obviously Chaos City, as the main hub and winning side, is the chaos representation in Splatoon 3’s story. So the Wasabi Supply unit i have a fun explanation for! its strictly a head canon though but, Wasabi is the green stick things DJ Octavio is literally grinding on his deck. just like how you do to make wasabi paste. So i think Marina is actual on the team for making sure DJ Octavio's Mech is in proper order and function by....making sure it has wasabi. I like this theory for a couple reason. 1 i know it doesn't seem like an important job, but it would be really weird if Marina was so important she could act all nonchalant about leaving and such. and imaging this High Tech Mech to require multiple units to maintain really makes it feel more strong and powerful! >:3 plus usually with these things every person needs to be a highly skilled engineer even if their individual role isn't necessarily the most strict

Because Salmonids have been confirmed to have their own society they are content with which is different to the octolings. Salmonids like the society they own and it is a culture vastly different to the Inklings. Octolings only integrated into Inkling culture because they didn't like being forces into following Octavio against their will. That is why Octolings has a reason to join the Inklings but the Salmonids don't have reason to. Sure, their is Little Buddy but Lil Buddy is a smallfry salmonid. Lil Buddy has probably been living with new Agent 3 for his whole life so would have a reason to join Inkling culture. The rest of the salmonids wouldn't have a reason to join the inklings like the octolings and lil buddy did. Also the fact that there were no Salmonlings in Salmon Run but there were Octolings in both Splatoon 1 and Splatoon 2.
