Why It’s Important to Ask the Right Questions as a Religious Seeker
coldcasechristianity.com/writ...
In this episode of the Cold-Case Christianity Broadcast, J. Warner Wallace takes questions from an audience at a Fearless Faith seminar (he is accompanied by Frank Turek and Mike Adams). Together they answer: Can a Christian lose their salvation? How do we respond to people who believe in conspiracy theories as they apply to the Church? Can evolution explain objective morality? How do you start a conversation about the Gospel with your atheist friend? What can Christian students do when they are mistreated by biased professors? Does God control the future or do we have the freedom to change it? This Q and A session took place at Calvary Chapel Chino Hills.

@@addlecrux5981 Nope. Because our experience has validated the words of Christ and He validated the truth of scripture. Even the canon has been validated by the witness of His Spirit. It starts with having one thing you know is trustworthy and examining the next through that. By this process we arrive at scripture being the validated Word of God. And we can then validate everything else through that. "Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good." - 1 Thessalonians 5:20,21

In gentle love, as you are treasured brother’s in Christ: I don’t think the first persons question was actually addressed: Jesus rebuked the pharisees when they claimed Jesus was from able to cast out demons by power from beelzebub. Jesus said a house divided against itself cannot stand (Luke 11, Matthew 12). The sons of Sceva attempted to cast out demons in Jesus’ name but were not of Jesus. The demons saw this (Jesus I know, and Paul I have heard of but who are you?) The demon ripped their clothes off, beat them and threw them naked into the street (Acts 19). 1 John 1 tells us that all have sinned, and if we say we have no sin, we call Christ a liar. 1 John 1 tells us if we confess our sin, Jesus will forgive us! But 1 John 3 also warns that if we practice sin, we are not children of God but children of the devil. John tells us that if God’s seed abides in us, we cannot keep on sinning. Paul infers this in Hebrews, where he strongly warns that we must not be like the Israelites who were redeemed by the first covenant but did not enter into the promised land because of unbelief. Hebrews 4:11 “Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.” How can Paul warn against falling into disobedience (with consequence!) if it is not possible? Hebrews 6:4-6 warns that is impossible in the case of those who were once enlightened, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of the Word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt. These are scary warnings, as they should be. Jude, Peter and Jesus warn of apostasy (Jesus warns of names being able to be blotted out of the Book of Life in Revelations!). The question was good. But there is hope to ALL who sincerely seek God in a humble and contrite heart, rejecting the flesh, walking in the spirit. Ezekiel 33 and 34 make this clear: repent, be saved. Isaiah, Jeremiah present God’s desire to forgive and not destroy. He extends the invitation. (Oh Israel, why will you perish?) Manasseh started off filthy and living in absolute rebellion against God. After being taken to Babylon, he cried out to God. God restored him, Manasseh lived out his repentance: he tore down the idols and restored the worship to the one true God. God is merciful. But please do not be deceived into believing that we are permitted to trample underfoot the cross of Christ in willful, continual sin without consequence. It is fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Jesus is Lord, he is my King, and he is the Son of God. If we stumble, confess, turn back to God, do not abide in sin. Abide in Christ. Practice what Jesus taught every hour you are awake.

Parable of the sower explains why some would have the outwards appearence of being a Christian, giving the impression they "walked away" from God. They never gave their heart to the Lord never had a personal relationship. What they had was an emotional experience with religion. The seeds fell on bad ground. The world got in their way (they were in, and of, the world).
@ladyross_60
@ladyross_60 11 ай бұрын
I question the "emotional experience with religion" as a qualifier of a false Christian. Emotional experience with religion is paramount to having a relationship with God! Love is an emotion. His heavenly love is the greatest of all emotions. How does one test what the brain can question? With the heart. We give our hearts to Christ. The heart is by definition (multiculturally *and* the Bible) the ruler, the center, of emotion. Emotion is the very basis of faith! We are not to lean on our own understanding. We test truth by the heart when we hear it from our pastors. Faith without emotion is reason, not faith. That could be called blind acceptance, or even reasoned acceptance... But faith involves the heart. How can one love without emotion? Love is what God is. And we are to love first Him, and then our neighbor, by Jesus's definition of the greatest commandment. Mathew 22:36-40.

The problem is with the definition of 'saved'. Nowhere in scripture is this done by saying a prayer. The evidence was a changed life. Repentance. Scripture actually lists sins that lead to death. This is a spiritual death. If the way is narrow to salvation, then saying a sinner's prayer isn't "the way". We have to fight sin with much more ferocity than most Christians currently do.

On the question of being able to lose your salvation, how is it that "they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh", if they were never born again to begin with? And how can it be "not continuing" and thereby "cut off", if they never were born again? It seems to me that scripture is clear that we are called to chose, not only to believe and accept Christ, but also to chose to continue with Him otherwise we will be cut off. Heb 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. Rom 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

You are absolutely correct. The Bible teaches that someone who has been a partaker of the Spirit, who has been sanctified (which both only happen if you become truly saved) can walk away and renounce Christ at which point there is no way to renew (you can only renew something you once had) their salvation. Read the letters to the churches. Only the overcomers (what is an overcomer? - someone who endures to the end) will make it. Many will fall away in the end. Many already have. People just don't like the truth, because the truth is hard. Much easier to believe the easy way - say the sinner's prayer. Now your good to go no matter what, because you can't lose it.

I just heard a testimony from a pastor that Christ told him that if He(Christ), were to return today, Christ wouldn't take the pastor with Him. The pastor was shaken and wondered why, there were miracles and healings in the congregation. Christ said it was not because of the pastor but because Christ loved the people. And then Christ led him to these verses: Matthew 7:22-23 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Jesus Christ said to the pastor that He could see through the pastor's heart. Nothing is hidden from Him. Even, I, was shaken by the pastor's testimony.

You don't have eternal life until you die, or until Jesus returns in the clouds and we are changed in the twinkling of an eye. Are there false converts? Yes. But who are the ones who FALL AWAY? How can you fall away unless you were standing in the faith? Furthermore, there's this little word "if"; it's a conditional word. "If" this is done, "then" that will happen. A born again believer can harden their heart to callousness "if" they neglect their faith. Col. 1:21-23 makes it clear that you are awarded eternal life when you are present before the LORD Jesus, which is when you die, according to Paul, not while you are still living your best life now on the earth. Why would Paul rejoice that he kept the faith until the point of his death, if he couldn't lose his salvation while he was alive?🤷🏻‍♀️

Concerning losing salvation question. Peter said in 2nd Peter 20&21, For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them then the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than , after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. How can you escape the pollutions of the world, without salvation? You can't You can't know the way of righteousness, without salvation. You can't be cleansed from pollutions of the world except by the blood and sacrifice of Jesus. Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law, ye are fallen from grace. Gal. 5:4. You can't have grace without salvation given to you. Let him standeth take heed lest he fall, why would we be warned of this if we can't fall? Just a few scriptures. You can't lose your salvation, you can throw it away. There is a difference between messing up and sinning, and turning back to live in sin. Scripture says yes you can throw away your salvation. The entanglement isn't the end, it is being overcome by sin. If we sin we have an advocate with the Father, but if we don't repent and turn from the sin, we chose to be a servant of sin and turn from God. Sop, everyone up there are teaching falsely concerning this.

Galatians deals with the issue of 'loosing salvation'. People can be believing The Gospel but then depart the faith by believing a different gospel, that is no gospel at all. So, OSAS is sloppy doctrine.
@rogerc.limpoco5538
@rogerc.limpoco5538 Жыл бұрын
OSAS? Let’s revisit the Garden of Eden. 1. Was Adam created in the image and likeness of God: body, soul, and spirit breathe with Gods Spirit never to die? 2. Was it not that Adam believed Satan instead of God caused him to rebel against God’s singular command “thou shall not” and sinned? and immediate died spiritually? 3. That sinless Christ came and made acceptable payment for sins of all by his death on the cross, burial and resurrection? 4. Did Jesus said to all descendants of Adam that they must be born in the spirit? (Born again) this is restoring the original state of the sinless Adam? Body, soul and spirit indwelled by the Holy Spirit? 5. Are not all believers in Christ acquired a new nature as the sinless Adam, body, soul, and spirit/indwelled by the spirit of God? With one big difference - living in a world that was cursed because of the sin of Adam? 6. Are we to accept that believers cannot choose to believe doctrines of the devil exactly what the perfect Adam did? Believed the devil as against believing God? 7. If such is the case, OSAS is true and God made Adam to sin. And God is a deceiver making it appear that Adam did it on his own worthy of death as punishment. The whole fall to sin recorded in Genesis 3 is just a divine charade for God is the author of it. 8. Also all the stern warnings contained in the Word of God are likewise divine charade. God playing puppets with the most advanced divine algorithms even deceiving the innermost feelings of humanity to include the devil himself making believe the very identity of who they really are in God’s perspective? Supplementary Comments: 1. The problem of Adam was UNBELIEF that led him to sin. 2. God’s solution without violating His character and nature was first to pay the death penalty with BLOOD as required of sin once for all. 3. Proclaim to all the good news that all will know the grace of God can be received by faith to ALL WHO BELIEVE in the work of God thru Jesus Christ and continue TO BELIEVE on the son of God until the day of redemption. SUMMARY: MAN’s PROBLEM = unbelief = dead in spirit. PAYMENT = precious blood of the lamb. GOD’S SOLUTION = to believe in the Son of God = made alive in Christ.

For the free will question, I say this: "suppose you have a child who LOVES hamburgers. It's his absolute favorite food, and he always talks about how much he loves hamburgers. But even still, you let him choose what to eat for dinner. Even though you ask if he wants hot dogs or hamburgers, you know he will choose hamburgers every time. So even though you know the outcome, you still give the child a choice so as to not take away his free will. It's the same with God, because he is our heavenly Father and creator, he knows us so well that he knows what we will choose, but even so he gives us the choice to freely decide, for taking away that free will would bind us and not be loving at all."

3:18 "can't lose eternal life." jesus defines eternal life as knowing god. scriptures is replete with warnings against falling away and the impossibility of once being saved and going back to our vomit (sinful life, life according to our will not god's) and returning to a saved state. jesus said, "depart from me you LAWLESS ones..." eternal life is gained when we are in christ. when he commands some to depart from him, it means they are no longer IN him. eternal life is a state of existence, of our standing with jesus. ETERNAL LIFE CAN BE LOST. TAKE HEED. to mr. turek: you have a stance and pronouncement that are characterized by arrogance, even if jokingly. please be aware and mindful of this. the holy spirit will help if you ask him ceaselessly. i would appreciate a response to my comments to show from scriptures where i am in error. to all the rest who are into humor rather than truth: please prayerfully examine the teachings of these men against the very word of god like the bereans did. god has a great sense of humor so nothing wrong with humor except when it is used to entertain and distract the mind from the errors of the teachings.

Some thoughts on 'Free Will' Personally, I believe that God has used certain people as characters in his book, we call the bible. How else would we even know that the author exists? I believe that the prophets played a major role in this. Those people didn't necessarily have a choice in the matter. However, when it comes to the world at large, it would be impossible to control the outcome of the consequences sin alone provides, as sin has a knock on effect. This tells me that we humans have been provided with the book, so that we can make "informed choices"...
@isaacstrinavic4384
@isaacstrinavic4384 9 ай бұрын
Your wrong about the prophets not having a choice. They chose to listen and they did argue with god about things he wanted them to do. God knew was most likely to listen and who would be able to have the biggest effect on others. If your boss asked you to do something you’d do it but not because you are forced to but because you understand why it’s necessary for the business. God showing himself doesn’t force them to believe in him because they could have assumed they have gone crazy or that a evil spirit is talking to them rather then god. God knew that the people he chose as prophets would listen that’s why they were chosen, even if the prophets don’t understand everything or know everything god knew they’d be able to accomplish what he needed from them.

About answer on question ( time mark 20:50) - I do not agree, because of we see a lot of situations in Bible where God put people on test. Please understand that I don't think that God is not able to know the future, I'm just not sure he want to use that power. It would be very boring,... I believe that God is an excellent Chas player, and can figure out every outcome based on known information. We know that God said 'Let us create a man on our our image', but most of the people think that refers to physical appearance ad that is NOT true. We are made out of body (flesh), hearth (moral guidance) and soul. Regardless of that - God the Father made us as curios creatures, is that not truth. We like to discover, we like to play, we like to explore, abd we like to win... If we are created on His image - would it be wrong to presume that our Father share same those things with us? Why would He, Almighty, go true all of this if knowing results in front? Once again - I don't say that He can not know this, but also believe that He don't play this way. What would be the point (reason, purpose...) of knowing everything in front but letting wrong moves played? I don't believe that God the Father is some boring entity, I don.t believe He is without imagination, I don.t believe He is 'that guy who knows everything in front', because in that case all this creation would have been ... boring? We are talking about true God who controls everything! Matter, life, laws, time... If He would choose to know outcome before 'the play' starts - what's the reason to start it at all? I would not like to know outcome of such wonderful event and you may say; 'But you are not God', and that would be truth. But - I'm made by the image of my God and it is only logicaL that I could understand some of His ways... I sincerely hope that this will not insult anyone, but apologize in front if such situation (without my intent) occured.

You can't keep making salvation based on your performance. It's based on Jesus's performance. If you want a question why Christians fail it's because we only think we're positionally right. When we know we have the gift of righteousness as our identity we then walk in the spirit and not fulfill the lust of the flesh. If a Christian makes a mistake they are not blamed for it anymore.

I am quite shock. So many clear scriptures that say you can lose your "salvation". The reason is you are being saved. Paul had different co workers, and what did he say abiut them, they left him. Who are the oarables referring to? Servants. Believers. And how about the first parable to understand all parables. The parable of the sower. Read for yourself and make up your mind yourself. Another thing is do you believe that Jesus or do you believe in Jesus.... when you believe in Jesus .... you place your trust in HIM. You start doing what he says ....and not just believing that Person ( it is the starting point). Put it another way, you are ...in the journey.like the Israelites teet..

No, Frank! He can lose all of these if he doesn’t work on them. Remember Judas ischariot, he still had faith in Chirst. But he lost his sacitification and salvation because he didn't repent and lost hope. Faith and works, as St. James said: 'As the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.' (James 2:26).

Frank is right; you cannot lose your salvation. Yet, how do you know that you are saved? As it is written, many will try to enter, but most professing Christians won't make it! If you are Christian and have even secret doubts that you are saved, I would be concerned! I would be extremely concerned! Consider the following words of the Lord Jesus Christ, Who said, "Whoever believes in Me..." Let's stop right there. Jesus is about to make a distinction between those going to heaven and those on their way to hell. If ever you 'tremble', if you are concerned about your salvation, it should be around these words of Christ - that sound so very, very trivial! Referring to the Holy Spirit, Jesus said, "Whoever believes in Me shall have rivers of living water bubbling up inside of him (John 7.38)." Do you wonder what these words mean? If so, you should shake. Be afraid! Reread what Christ has said, pray!, and consider that, if you do not have those rivers of living water, neither are you saved. Do you understand what Christ is saying? The best description of being filled with the Holy Spirit, of being born again - of being saved! - is that you have these rivers, not a drip, nor a stream, nor even a single river, but rivers of living water. If whoever believes in Christ has those rivers, then if you do not, then, by pure logic, neither do you believe unto salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ. If you do not know the Lord, ask, trusting the promises of God, and you shall receive. Christ died on a Cross so that we may know Him. Do you know Him? Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

Gen 2:14-17 , Ezk 36:24-27,Jhon 1:12-13, 3:1-6, Rom 6:17-18, Eph 2:1-2, God, The Eternal CREATOR. Has Degreed His Determined plan according to His wise counsel from Eternity past. Romans CHAPTER 9. Sorry, but this is Scripture. Yes we have free will, however our free will is in bondage because of Sin. God by His Amazing grace gives us an ability to see our desperate need. This is called regeneration. Then ,only then we place our faith in The SAVIOR after hearing the gospel. So regeneration begins With the Sovereignty of God. And this is PRECISELY what Calvin saw. Jesus said in Jhon 15:16, "(you did not choose Me.) BUT I,I, choose you.) Why does not choose Him come into Q. Because The SOVRIEGN LORD Has to free up the the darkness by Eliminating the darkness with light, Jhon 1:4-5. Rom 6:17. Notice, In verse 17, but GOD be thanked. Do you see, our salvation is completely by The grace of God. Eph 2"8-9, I have no idea why these Inspired passages are accredited to Calvin. He simply pointed out that God saves. Act's 13:48. If you don't like these Scriptures then tear out the pages and see what will happen to you on that final Day. Rev 22:18-19, Duet 4:2, 12:32, 30:6, Exo 32:33. Stop the debate among yourselves and give Glory and Honor to your CREATOR and High Priest our LORD. LORD of lord's, Jesus, The SOVRIEGN LORD, CHRIST. For all Power and Authority and Judgment Has Been given to Him. For Judgment begins With The House of God. Amen.

Study Sociology thru a God based lens, "analyse the analysis". Sociology is based, like most of modern culture, on the Greco/Roman then Renaissance posit that "Man is the measure of all things" You are being trained to, measure "man" by using "man's" understanding of "man" If you want to critique the obvious shortcomings of soft sciences "Dunning Kruger effect" you 1st have to honestly know what it's trying to explain. There is so much that's valuable in Sociology, just know the bias, and quite frankly keep your head when people show "psychotic certainty" and are playing in group out group, ( Are you familiar with James Lindsey's work, he and his cohort are excellent at analysing Academia). I did a Fine Art course 10 years ago and the institution ticked most of the boxes for cult like control, it was astonishing, but it's now a widespread experience evidently. Or you could switch majors? But don't let a fine mind and a social conscience go to waste.

In the context of the whole bible I would say that it is more than likly that one cannot lose salvation. With that said if i were to make a case for losing salvation with the few scriptures that support it, i would say it wouldnt be as simple as relapsing into a sinful indulgence, and then god revoking your salvation. I would make a case that if one were capable of losing salvation it would have to be a willing disregard of god, and christ, and turning away from him willfully. The person in question would have to be fully willing to leave his grace by their own full knowing decision. None of the "whoops I've done x amount of sinning since I was saved. Guess I'm damned again" But that's just my 2 cents on the matter.

I feel a need to point out that such questions are hypothetical in a “why would you do or not do something if you could” kind of situation, and MANY societies throughout history wouldn’t do a thing about it, at least not to the perpetrator and definitely not if the perpetrator was more powerful. And that STILL doesn’t answer the question of why you shouldn’t do something, only that a large number of people said you shouldn’t and have the power to stop you. Bring in an army and that deterrent goes away (see most sieges in history).

"Once Saved always saved" is a biblical doctrine, but it cannot be separated from the doctrine of divine election. In fact it is the "P" in TULIP: Perseverance of the faith. If you think faith is nothing more than a choice from your free will, then the idea that you can't loose your faith is dangerous, because, by implication, with the same free will that you chose to believe, you could also choose to stop believing. Even worse, you can go on living a sinful life believing you are saved when you're not. However, if true faith is a gift from God, something that _He_ works in whomever _He_ freely chose to save, then you can safely believe that once saved always saved, because nothing can frustrate God's eternal will to save. And how can you tell you have saving faith? Well, the same God who works the faith in you, will also work into the desire to do the good works that is pleasing to Him. We call that the fruit of the Spirit.

Frank is wrong about losing your salvation. His error in John is assuming that you lock in your salvation when you are alive. This is false. Salvation is contingent on belief. You have to "finish the race". You are saved as long as you trust in Jesus for your salvation. You still have the freewill to later reject Him and if you do and die in your sin, you are lost. Salvation is conditional. What is the condition? Trust in Jesus as your savior. If this were not the case and you could pray a prayer once, believe it at the moment you prayed and your obligations are ended and scripture is unnecessary. You just need one verse and you are good. Of course this is nonsense. If you could not lose your salvation, there wouldn't be scriptures detailing how names are blotted out from the book of life.

Unsaved people perform miracles 'in Jesus's name'??? How does that work? Why would Jesus sanction, effectually empower, miracles by unbelievers? He said he never knew them, but he said it was because they were lawless. Something doesn't cohere here! Mustn't it be the case that they were merely attributing the miracles to Jesus, speaking his name, but the miracles were actually the work of Satan and demons? Of course, then you have to wonder why they would do that.
@MrMurfle
@MrMurfle Жыл бұрын
After a little more thought, I'd say the best explanation is these lawless ones were likely the Benny Hinns and Kenneth Copelands of their day, performing fake miracles using Jesus's name, maybe even fooling themselves, giving them the audacity to put their claims before Jesus.

@@1969cmpIf you study the book of Galatians carefully, it is not about losing your salvation, but "falling from grace." All through the book there is a comparison in the one born in the natural way, Ishmael, and the one born of the promise, Isaac. The natural and the spiritual. Paul asked them, "Who has bewitched you...?" Because they had begun in the Spirit, but were trying to justify themselves by the law. That is the focus, not losing our salvation.

There are levels of sin, correct? Surely a person who was once ‘saved’, but over time, completely falls away and into a life that lacks any virtue or relationship with God cannot be comfortable about his prospect of going to Heaven. If in his action, he manifests no resemblance to the Faith he professes or once professed to have, the ‘saved’ status must be at least in question. God gave us free will, so if one brother freely chooses to live virtuously and in close communion with God while another believes, but freely chooses not to be as virtuous and believes in God, there must be at minimum a higher place in Heaven for the more Loving (Agape) of the two. If the less virtuous brother falls away far enough and for long enough, It makes no sense that he should have the same salvation. That’s not saying that a person can earn his way into Heaven without Jesus, or that the more work you do, the higher in Heaven you will be. The point is that this life must be a journey toward a relationship with God. We should not assume that we are saved.
