Just got back from watching Ant-man, and I love this movie. I had my worries because they lacked advertisement, but hey it's marvel and it always delivered for me. Ant-man is a 9.5/10 for me.

I loved the movie. I really loved the Easter eggs in the movie. When Cross was first talking about the ant-man that existed decades ago and he's talking about the adventures. He turns to pym and says "The ant-man Tales to Astonish" Ant-man first came in the marvel series tales to astonish. When Pena was talking about whistling and they said no, when he's walking around he's whistling "it's a small world" which was a fun nod at disney owning marvel.

Caleb Peterson Ya they mentioned that one in the video so I didn't bring it up. But ya the room went nuts with that line. Marvel has said it was just a generic line and not a DIRECT reference to spiderman as that deal had not been reached when ant-man had been finished. But still, it's spiderman.

I enjoyed this film. Pros -Michael Pena as always, he's in my top 5 fav actors -Hope and Wasp stuff -The inclusion of hank pym was so well done -The humor -The avengers tie ins are now feeling so natural and not as shoe-horned as phase 1 -The Yellow jacket suit is literally one if the best suits I've seen in movies Cons -The story was a little jumbled imo -The villain yet again was very absent, would have loved to see more cross, and not have him die. So he could be used in a future film. I feel like if he was a supporting cast as a villain in an avengers movie it would have been great for his character -I wasn't feeling some of the action moments in the end I thought this was one of the best origin story cbm's out there, and a fitting movie for Ant-man and the characters. 8/10

I would've loved to see more of the villain and even more of the father-son mentorship between Pym and Cross. I think he could potentially come back in a sequel. Maybe Pym tries to get his wife back from the quantum realm and Yellow Jacket uses that to come back.

I loved that bedroom fight scene. I laughed so hard at the second 'train' joke, when Yellow Jacket dramatically threw the train and it just pathetically landed up against the window. Also, the way they could have dealt with that Hank telling Hope about what happened to her mother out of nowhere scene could have been better utilized if Hank said he felt guilty about not sacrificing himself instead rather than just saying "I did it to protect you". Even though I loved the film, and Hank, that would have added another bonus layer to Hank and another reason why he hid himself away in some sorts, due to the guilt biting away at him for so long. LOVED Ant-man though, so excited to see him being utilized in other ways in the MCU, the way they used his character even so far is refreshing compared to other Heroes in the MCU.

My review: I think the movie does a clever way of tricking you into thinking it's a stylishly directed movie. It's not. It's a stylishly EDITED film. If you break down shot composition, the actual shots are kinda understated in comparison to what Reed was obviously trying to accomplish visually (i.e. aesthetic, color vibrancy), which is an Edgar Wright film. Now I'm not going to moan and bitch about Weight's departure, but they used a lot of he and Cornish's script and his storyboards, so let's not pretend like they weren't trying to re-create that Wright style. It kind of reminds me of Incredible Hulk; that movie had exceptional editing which made you not question the script's faults until after you saw the movie, and here the great editing covers up the "meh" direction. I do like the movie. As I said before, the style in the editing is great, Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd are giving solid performances and have really good chemistry. Their parallels are fine, but nothing more than superficial, and Corey Stoll elevates the material he's given (his material was paper-thin and his character became Obadiah Stain from the first Iron Man). The movie was REALLY funny, most of the jokes worked, but there were some that rambled on (backing up!) and some that were just plain unnecessary (Scott's ruining Pym and daughter's moment). But no matter how unnecessary some of the comedy got (especially in the third act), Michael Peña always rocked it! The action was good, but nothing memorable, second act was unfocused and took waaaaay too long explaining the rules of the suit. The pacing was all over the place. Also, Hank's relationship with his daughter was built up so much only to have it be all resolved and hunky-dory in one scene that gets lost in the shuffle. That's a pretty big let-down! But yeah, you could tell when they were pulling from Wright's original script and when it was the McCay script. They both have such different voices and Wright's is so unique, that while I think McCay did a pretty decent job mimicking his style, you can still hear the difference. I really enjoy lighthearted, small scale stories, and there's nothing wrong with being simple; but there were moments in this movie that I felt there wasn't nearly enough happening. Good acting, good (if overstated) comedy, excellent editing, but several issues with this one. 7/10

Saw the movie today with my mom and we loved it! Scott Lang is charming, smart, funny, brave and kicks ass :) Mr Harloff was right when he said that the "quantum-verse" sets up Doctor Strange, Kevin Feige mention it a little in an interview. Mr Campea you need to listen to Mr Harloff more :P The romance/lust between Hope and Scott was hinted several times: first when she saw him bruised and stared at him, second when he talked with her after her fight with Dr Pym and third when he kicked falcon's ass using her fighting tecnique. Perfect movie! Luis was so cool, and he has excelent taste (that art gallery at the end was beautiful). Everyone was perfect. Cassie is so cute! Poor subject 34C, poor Antony, I will never forgive Darren for that. A subscriber from Portugal :)

Sal Scalici Good list! I'd switch out Alexander Pierce and the Red Skull though. Red Skull was just shockingly forgettable in Cap 1. For a character that plays such a major role int he comics, I found the performance and the writing on that character underwhelming. Meanwhile, Redford as Alexander Pierce was both threatening and realistic enough to feel relevant in a way that Marvel villains really never are (doing these terrible things to make the country more secure, sacrificing freedom for safety, etc).

Peggy Carter wasn't just slightly older. She was about 40 years older in that scene. Plus they had already established that Howard Stark looked like John Slattery when Tony was a kid, so in 1989 they would have to use John Slattery for continuity's sake.

If Cap 2 is political thriller, Guardians a space opera, and Ant-Man a heist film: What will the other movies in Phase 3's tone be? Doctor Strange (superhero horror fantasy/magic movie?) Spider-Man (John Hughes action comedy?) Thor: Ragnarok (fantasy epic war movie?) Black Panther (dramatic action thriller?) Captain Marvel (cosmic space adventure?) Inhumans (epic science fiction drama?)

I am a bit of a script/story geek, so it hurts my soul to hear how 'impressed' you guys are about every scene served the story, like that is impressive storytelling. What hurts me here is that if a scene in ANY movie does not serve the story, it should NOT be there. That is the bar! EVERY SCENE in a movie MUST serve the story. :) Really good movie!!! One of the best of the marvel movies! 8/10 Dennis nailed the problems I had with it.

I went in expecting it to be a more action centered film so I thought it was pretty slow towards the beginning until I realized that it was going to be focusing more on relationships. I want to see it again now that i know what it is. But something no one is talking about: Yellow Jacket had one of the most gruesome looking deaths in Marvel history; the way he was contorted and crunched together was crazy. Loved Corey Stole in the role. Cant wait to see Scott with all the rest of the avengers along with the new generation heroes coming in. AntMan is probably my third favorite Marvel movie right behind Guardians and then Winter Soldier. Great stuff.

I loved how fluently he used the shrinking to his advantage during the combat scenes, especially with Falcon. It wasn't like he fought small for 5 minutes and then fought normal for 5 minutes in one scene. It was him constantly switching back and forth all in one close sitting to his advantage. And Hank kicked some ass in those flashbacks, Hell he still kicks ass now.

Saw Ant Man this morning I have to say it's gotta be in my Top 3 maybe in Top 2 of the Marvel films. I had so much fun watching this. The humor hit for me. Paul Rudd was believable as this guy that becomes Ant Man. Top to bottom I loved this movie. 9/10 for me. Also I'm with Kristian, I also thought the whole quantum realm and time stopping etc was leading or maybe hinting towards Dr. Strange. Curious to see if anything comes of that and his wife that may still be there.

Corey Stoll was fine but that character was just as underdeveloped as most Marvel villains. They really could have used to show him interacting with the Pym particles more so we would have known about the effect it was having on him, glossing over it with one line of dialogue did nothing for me.

I loved this movie so much, and I think Peyton Reed is not getting enough credit for his magnificent direction and development of Ant-Man during so much behind the scene chaos! For over a year all you heard on the internet and in movie circles was that this film would bomb because Edgar Wright left after 6 years of development, as if no one could make this film BUT him! Most of the naysayers are now rethinking that opinion. I for one am happy that Wright left the film, because it sounds like he wanted to ignore every other reference to the MCU and the Avengers, and seeing how well it was done, that would have been a huge mistake in my opinion! I don't know why on earth people keep doubting Marvel Studios!? Every year you hear: "(Insert Film Name here) is going to flop! This is the end of Marvels hot streak! Its over for Feige and Disney!!" Once again they've made a film that will/is shutting down the doubters! Now we just have to wait and see if WB/DC can do the same with its movie universe...

Its definitely much better than Age of Ultron, but not any where close to Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy - which really brought something fresh. Reason being, i see so much cliches and predictability in the 1st half of it (the results of him training with keyhole. the almost identical villian/1-dimensional-alter-ego from Iron Man 1 - to name a couple) Then there are situations that boggles my mind during the Falcon fight. Granted the fight was done well, but i kept asking myself, where are the other shield employees in the Avengers HQ throughout that scene? Not the Avengers themselves, but agents, workers of any kind. Its just him and Falcon fighting on an empty warehouse/parking-lot-feel with an "A" painted on its roof. It is still an enjoyable film, but i doubt it would get me back for multiple viewings like CapWS and GotG.

My only thing is, yeah it's obvious that they are going to bring Janet back, however I wonder what the relevance will be of them having two Wasps.
@jeremy144713
@jeremy144713 9 жыл бұрын
I don't think they will. Scott had no memory of the quantum realm when coming back if you remember him saying that. Plus Hank still doesn't know how to come back from that realm yet and he would have to find her in the ocean. Than you would go into theories, like does she age? They said the realm is beyond time and space. Also they made hanks daughter the new wasp to avoid having two of them. Very unlikely he'll have his wife back.

jeremy144713 I think it's kind of obvious they will bring Janet back. It's why they never showed her face, because they haven't yet cast the actress that will play her and they don't want to commit to anything. Well, obvious if they do an Ant-Man 2

Michael Lamar Simeon I agreed with Kristian, and I think the Quantum realm will be where magic originates, and play into Stephen Strange. I wouldn't be surprised if that's where we see Janet show up- it really will be interesting to see what that means for Hope. I'm just glad that Janet is in the MCU!

Terri Harris i think when Scott went there. it's getting more deeper than just the subatomic/quantum realm into where time and space collide like Pym mentioned early. so much to say, it might probably ties in with Strange since he's has that kind of ability to travel through space and time. at first it's all micro-organism here and there then quantum and later everything just black with fucked up imagery. so you can really tell that it's no longer subatomic/quantum realm.

I place this movie as my second favorite Marvel movie after Capt. America: Winter Soldier. I was surprised at how good it was. Good characters, I like the possibilities they left open, they could possibly make an Ant-man prequal down the road. I really enjoyed Micheal Pena's character and the way he was used. my only minor complaint was how quickly Scott Lange changed into the outfit,.... but that is really nit-picking the movie.

I saw the movie yesterday and give it a 8.5/10. The backstory of Pym's falling out with SHIELD were all well done. THe set-up of the villain was good but could have used a little more development, but I did like the HYDRA connection. There was some great character development with Pym, Scott Lang & Hope. I liked her line in the mid credits scene and look forward to see how she's used in future films.

this is also a nice year for actress Judy Greer. She just had a role in Tomorrowland, she was in Jurassic World and now she's in Ant-Man. Plus last night she returned for FX's Married season 2(such a funny show by the way, if your not watching Married, you should, her and Nat Faxon have great and funny chemistry) and also Greer is in the indie film Grandma with Lily Tomlin and the should've been Spider-Man Nat Wolff. Judy Greer came along way from films like Jawbreaker & 13 Going On 30, she also cracked me up as Ashton Kutcher's ex Wife on Two and a Half Men.

ColliderVideos I think they didn't bring back Dominic Cooper to portray Howard Stark because its suppose to be an older version of Howard Stark in his 70's. Remember the flashback scene with Hayley Atwell was set in 1989. Make sense that they would use John Slattery for an elder Stark and Cooper for the younger version.

The Sub Atomic Realm will fall into Dr Strange. And by the way, it seems like he went smaller then a sub atomic. They saw him shrink far more smaller then an atom and a particle. It seems like he went small then a planck length and if any of you guys follow the string theory, anything smaller then a planck length is a window to multiple dimensions and a planck length is the smallest measurement possible. So the guy talking about the Dr Strange world is correct.

I'd give it an 8/10, I thought it was kind of slow in the beginning and some of the humor was a little cheesy, but aside that the movie was a ton of fun. I loved the fight with falcon and the fact that the movie wasn't another predictable origin story really surprised me. Well done marvel, well done.

I really enjoyed this film...I've seen it three times so far! One of the things that makes me smile each time is Darren Cross throwing in the line "tales to astonish!" The character Hank Pym debuted in Tales To Astonish #27 in January of 1962. He became Ant-Man in Tales To Astonish #35. I also enjoyed the tank on a key chain bit, as I felt that was a nod to when Hank Pym gave up being Ant-Man/Giant-Man/Goliath/Yellowjacket and just started going by "Dr. Pym" as part of the West Coast Avengers. He would use his Pym particles to shrink and enlarge advanced weapons and gadgets that he carried around with him, instead of shrinking/enlarging himself.

Subatomic is used for shrinking very small to practically another universe - in the Justice League Unlimited animated tv show - the Atom explains to Lex Luthor about the subatomic universe and how is a whole other world from the universe and the solar system. Check it out. When Michael Douglas talks about Subatomic, I immediately thought "Hey call Ray Palmer (The Atom)"

I was reminded of Guardians while watching this movie. Very efficient story, tight and smart jokes and it helped to explain the uniqueness of the characters. This movie also reminds me of Iron Man and how excited I was after watching it. I definitely want to see more of Michael Douglass' Hank Pym and I thought the opening scene was perfect. Seeing Anthony Makie's Falcon was a good surprise and it made sense with the story. I get more excited about the MCU and even the DCCU and hopefully we can see Marvel develop their villains more so that they can survive more than one movie. I thought Ultron would be but we all saw how that turn out.

9/ 10. I really think the emotional pull of the movie more than makes up for the few question marks with the film. Things I liked: the comedy, action sequences, casting, emotive qualities (father, son - father daughter thing). Things I cocked a brow to: scene sequence in the beginning (I really felt Scott gets out of jail, the first thing he should do is 'look in' furtively on his daughter -- even if for just a 10 second beat - then show him working at Baskin Robbins); the Scott - Hope kiss was impromptu; the fight with Falcon was great but, perhaps he (Falcon) tries to handle it by himself as he was doing anyway but w/o the excessive dialog of alerting security etc. that didn't take note or show up to help him regardless (plus, the excessive reporting he did on his com kinda disempowered him as an Avenger: maybe they should've just let him do his thing w/o it). That's it. I shed a tear when Scott came from sub-atomic to hug the daughter. That little girl nailed her role just as well as any of the lead actor/ actresses.

The good thing about this movie is another Ant-Man (Men) can be introduced and Giant-Man/Goliath. Unlike Tony Stark, which people can only see RDJ as, we can bring up the other 2 Ant-Men after Lang. This gives Marvel options from jump and good options and characters that can be used with good stories

I really enjoyed the movie, but had an issue with the mid-credit scene. So, if Pym particles only work in a closed system, how will the new sleeveless Wasp outfit work without killing her like the sheep and that other dude? Especially since It's an older outfit that was designed for Hank Pym's wife (ie old tech) and one would assume that the closed system issue still hadn't been resolved.

This was a lot of fun. I really liked how they touched on the difficulties of ex-cons trying to integrate back into society and delved a little bit into the reasons that lead to out recidivism rate being so high. The cast was great and the action scenes were inventive and fun. It was a thrill to watch Ant-Man use his abilities and work with the ants. I thought Corey Stoll really brought a lot of humanity to the role and definitely made up for how underwritten his character was. Stoll made me understand his motivations and provided some depth to the role, and it's always nice to see an actor breath life to what's on the page. And the credits scenes were very nice periods on the film.

Hank Pym didn't tell his daughter about her mum because he was young and could blurt out to anyone about the Ant-Man technology especially Cross as she ended up working at PymTech. By not telling her, the secret was kept safe and she had some closure as a young girl.

6.5 - 7. There's plenty of positives in this movie. I liked it a lot. Michael Pena's cultured thug. Mike Douglas was on point. Corey Stoll was great, and special effects were awesome. However there's a flow missing that prevents it from being a better piece. The heart to heart scene with Pym and Hope seemed forced and awkward. A minute or two of more action also wouldn't hurt. As I like to point out that "ManofSteel's" opening scenes on Krypton was a tad bit long and shiny chrome serpent fight should've been cut all together. It's the exact opposite for Ant-man. Just my two cents.

they could tie in with Strange with that subatomic verse. i mean, in the movie itself, Hank Pym did mentioned about if someone going too deep that's where space and time would collide, somewhere along that line. so in that sense, the possiblity of time and space manipulation, i think only Strange could pull it off, going into different dimensions, teleport and whatnot.

The macro shots were beautiful. I feel that the aesthetic of the standard shots could have been a bit more to that style. Especially going right to the civil war clip at the end. That scene had a much more dynamic style to how it was shot and the treatment given in post. I was almost taken out of that last credit scene because of the dramatic difference in aesthetic which made me realize how "standard" the non macro cinematography was in the film.

Lang with his daughter. I didn't really buy into them. - training montage was weak to me

1) how great was that CG effect to make Michael Douglas look half his age in the first scene of the film and was great to see HOWARD STARK AND PEGGY back. 2) one of the funniest gag was when Michael PENA retells how he found the job tipoff and we see a sequence of friends talking to friends and more friends about it and everyone is lip synicnig to Pena's voice. Hilarious. 3) "ANT"ony - GET IT, HUH HUH??? 4) WASP REVEAL - Another female superhero. to join Widow & Scarlett Witch. Sweet. 5) the kiss between Scott and Hope, a Funny scene. 6) Everything involving Scott and the Ants. 7) Ant-man made jokes I never thought a MARVEL movie would take.
