This is exactly how my storm is set up. It’s tons of fun! You can even start freezing enemies with the initial ticks of the storm. Just swap targets in between ticks. You can get 2 initial targets and a third with the final frost bang.

BTW, if you release the ice storm before the final blast, it automatically recharges and you can keep freezing small enemies infinitely

I prefer the Ice Shards + Lightning Strike combo, ice shards don't take a full charge to freeze an enemy so you can freeze other enemies straight away with leftover shards and you are never at a risk of a miss due to circumstance and you can target them very precisely which helps agaisnt those bug tank dudes with shields; Lightning Strike as a detonator also does a lot of it's own damage that has also decent AoE, plus it's instant and auto homes in on what you are targeting; so this becomes much faster to pull off a combo and is less reliant on movement/terrain getting in the way and the damage is still massive.

I came to the same build while playing . Also there’s a little secret with burning orb : it seems that after a fully charged orb , you can quickly throw another orb which will deal EVEN MORE damage than a charged one . Although it seems pretty random . Also you forgot to mention : ice storm only gets consumed once you detonate it . Meaning that you can endlessly repeat the first four blasts without your ability ever being on a cooldown . I personally never consume the full ability since i only use it as a primer to freeze everything .

Super effective. Also if you charge up the fireball and then spam the ability button with right timing, It'll hurl another fully-charged fireball that does slightly more damage. Not sure if they will patch this, but definitely a nice little damage increase.

If you dont charge your ice storm attack all the way and let it tick 5 times before the final explosion, you can have infinite ice procs because the charge is not used up unless you charge it all the way

Discovered this build towards the end of the first demo weekend. Shields are a bit of a weakness, but throw a few uncharged fireballs and some bullets then freeze. Also buff the fire and ice damage with components. Using combo damage increase via consumable is amazing.

I've been playing storm with my friend as Ranger. He's been running shotguns, fir grenades, and meleeing a lot (Ranger Melee is a primer instead of a detonator) and I've just been flying above him dropping fireballs on enemies. This is the most fun I've had in any game since Skyrim first came out.

That was by far my favorite build! Though I wasn't presented with to many options when I played! I'm really looking forward to it coming out! The demo was fun, minding all the glitches and bugs that were present! I'm hopeful this game is a success, once it's out and hopefully they listen to the players, it should only get better

I use that build too 2 details though: 1- you can freeze your weaker enemies without using the last blast of ice storm, takes a bit more time yes (you just stop activating the perk and activate it back right again, rince and repeat, works great to save the big blast for a stronger enemy since you basically have endless fire balls to detonate if you only use them charged) 2- An error in what you said about Storm combo perk, unfortunately once you detonate your combo as a Storm, the debuff applied to surrounding enemies does NOT set them up for combos... You could chain almost infinite combos if that was the case

living flame and burning orb is another combo that i really enjoyed it quickly kills groups of small enemies as it spreads fire damage

Living Flame is also another extremely good primer on Blast Seal, mostly because the fire spreading to everyone leads to everything in the area dying extremely fast.

I'm in love with the ice shard lightning strike combo, I have higher lvl versions so it's not like I'm rolling with the 10 power versions you start with. I like being able to essentially freeze lock some higher lvl enemies like turrets and have an enormous damaging attack to combo it

More damage and more usage if you add in elemental conduit and the other component that remove 20% damage for 50% more gear cooldown speed

this build is incredible. So glad i found this video. If you never fully expand the ice storm then you basicly have unlimited ice priming and then 5 fireball cannons. This ABSOLUTEly WRECKS. im still waiting to find a glacial spear. i wanna try it but shit aint dropping. Although this would probably trump it because you get 5 charges of massive fireballs. unbeatable

Arthur Dealy Glacial Spear is more of a single target burst skill as it lacks AOE. You can sort of get around the AOE by using it to combo, but it lacks the uptime of Burning Orb as it only has a single charge (although its cooldown isn’t terribly long). Also as I understand it, Ice and Lightning do more damage to shields than Fire so it also gets added utility there

When using the fireball at full charge the next shot if shot fast enough will also be full charge and have slight tracking. Its a good way to maximise damage.

This is literally my set up, what I usually do is basically be the commander and relay info to my teammates. Freeze the enemy, move on to the next group and trust my allies to follow through with a combo. Seriously being the storm feels like you have more responsibility than the other classes as your constantly airborne, with the best view of the combat zone and being able to plan a path for you and your buddies.

Been running this set up since the first beta. If you only use the first 5 shots of the ice storm, it never has to charge and you can have unlimited abilities because of how fast the 5 shots in burning Orb are.

I stumbled upon this build in the demo and one thing I noticed that you didn't mention is that you don't actually need to fully use the charge on Ice Storm to apply a primer effect. If you let it ramp up a few ticks then let go of the button you can start the ability over again with no cooldown and after 2-3 ticks mobs are still primed and you didn't burn the cooldown. (You can actually see this happen in this very video @3:18, the skorpions are primed, then the final ice explosion goes off.)

Ice Storm and Fire Storm are awesome, Burning Orb is the hands down best detonator on Storm. I like going Fire Storm/Burning Orb for a pure dps build, but Ice Storm/Burning Orb is godlike as well. High damage, low cooldowns, never have to use your weapons. Now this may change if later game gear drops cooldowns of other abilities low enough, or some other mechanic modification, but this combo is ELITE playing through the story and leveling up.

Not sure if it's a bug but if u charge the fire ball to full and release if u tap the button again u throw an additional charged shot instantly it's happens on my build in ps4 same spell setup

I tried multiple builds over both weekends as did many of us. I tried the one Arekkz is using and i disagree, but thats not to say it isnt a good build. All level 19 so apples to apples, i believe ice shards with lightning strike is more powerful. Its also faster. At the end of the day both are good builds and very viable. Just player preference at that point. Crafting consumables can make a pretty big damage increase as well. Cant wait for full game.

Do you think this game will be worth getting later on? Dont want to buy a game which is outdated or even boring after a few months, like destiny 2. Didnt play destiny 1, played the second part and was massively dissapointed.

Use the double ice combo instead. I love this build too. But glacial spear also activates the combo. Followed by ice and combo inscription. As well as ice based and cdr gear. Will be same cooldowns and waaay more dmg. Mono element can turn crazy due to inscriptions and gear. That being said this is still strong for storm. Mostly just have fun

Ice storm seems to have changed in the release build. It's a bubble explosion like fire storm now and is a slower cast with fewer charges. Good for freezing groups without needing a combo to do so though.

Is there a reason I would want to use the flame detonator over the lightning detonator? Seems like lightning has more damage & AoE effect.

The fireball has 5 charges, you can almost fire those fireballs indefinetly without having to care about cooldowns

So in this case the detonator is the focus seal and the lightning abilities in that slot either prime or just do damage, a build you may like is just the default storm one with ice shards and the lightning strike

Typically, skills like the Lightning detonator are Blast Seals, and priming skills are mostly Focus Seals. This particular build is backwards. So yes, you can use Lightning, but that replaces the ice skill, not the fireball. So if you want the lightning, you have to replace the fireball with something like ice shards.

4 Frost sharpe, jump melee, then 4 frost sharpe jump melee, repeat = infinity combos with infinity frozen. Btw, once you kill frozen enemies that frozen by frost sharpe, the near by enemies will get frozen too.

By far the best storm build.What Arekkz doesn't mention is that with ice storm its power is that you don't let it overheat. You can get off 5 shots then release LB/L1 for a sec and the status will be enough to freeze anything without a shield as you cannot prime shielded enemies with the Storm. After you release ice storm after 4 or 5 shots without letting it overheat (6 shots) so before it detonates, you then charge up a Burning Orb and detonate. This way burning orb always have 2-4 charges so it is never on CD and you do not overheat ice storm so you can use it forever, 4 or 5 ice storm shots will prime anything then you detonate and spread with the Storms passive. By far the most powerful Storm build atm and with masterworks and Legendaries who knows how crazy this build will get. But yall keep running frost shards and lightning storm i like being unique and top DPS anyways so Meh

Unfortunately the ice storm ability is different now, and honestly, it's awful. Does next to no damage. I've been using Ice Blast, but it requires a bit of a closer range. Would you mind reworking a different build, or are we still set on ice storm being the best one?

Way ahead of you on this build. Started using this during vip demo. The fireballs alone are super useful and basically infinite. Ice storm is that extra helpful bit when needing to drop bigger mobs

That's the build I used for most of demo's but what I want to know is how much extra dmg you get just the combo bonus because I went to a no prime no det build flame burst and arc burst and it felt way stronger if you don't know maybe you could find out i looked all over for just the bonus combo dmg %but couldn't find it. Also work like to know if there weapons or components that change skills like in Diablo rune system so like ranger bubble could pick up downed team mates if you put bubble over them and then you could run away. If you find out the combo dmg bonus if much appreciate it. Thanks

Glyn Burton Can confirm that this is the case; Storm’s passive can proc off of other people’s primers. Just be mindful that you might be better off leaving combo detonations for other Javelins depending on the situation

burning orb is so good, but the only good primer for the other focus kinda only could be ice storm so i dont even think any other things actually work as well as this build or the original lighting strike + frost shard build and frost shard's CC ability and CD timer just left everything else in the dust

You can freeze enemies without actually wasting the ability, just dont hold it all the way and keep spamming it

Prefer ice storm and glacial spear myself. Gives you some punch on heavy targets, and you can reverse the order of attack on enemies with high shields and glacial spear will knock out a huge chunk of their shielding. Snipers get a glacial spear, ice storm, melee combo

Why the glacial storm though? Its such a long cooldown for very mediocre damage.. and a long cast, i feel like ice blast is just a less punishing primer. If you're far away it has good spread and pretty much every shard primes, its lower cd, short cast time - all in all just safe and easy priming for detonations.

There is no cooldown of you don't finish the cast. Use the ticks, let go, back to tick spamming, let go... etc no cooldown free freeze status spread

I found that on a weaker enemy (playing on hard), you don't need to use your ice storm fully to freeze them.

It could be just me but the Ice Storm and Burning Orb combination feels underwhelming since you can only detonate and get a combo off of one target with the Burning Orb.

Storm is alot of fun, shame I'm only seeing this after the demo has ended, but personally I think I'm going to run Storm using a "Rubber Ball of Lightning" as I've taken to calling it and Lightning Strike, as for the components alot of ones that up the amount of time I can hover as for the 3rd ability, I'm not sure since I didn't use them alot Wind Wall is tempting for that extra cover however I'm going to be to far above the fight for it to be effective and the recharge one, would be nice since Rubber Ball and Lightning Strike are only 1 charge abilities but it's visual effect does mess with aiming a bit the further away you are from the target.
