EA has a hard-on for live services, no matter how often they fail at it. When you think about it, their only "successes" in live services are where they have a monopoly on the market due to licensing (sports, Star Wars, etc.). In other words, they can only compete where there's no competition.

And every single youtuber who is subscribed to Origin Access, the number is actually quite high, I can't think of a youtuber who plays any game who doesn't have that sub to EA. So add another 10-20k players or so more, then we have to add the youtubers who actually had to buy the game because of being blacklisted, like Joe and Sterling. Then we add the 4-5 million sheep who actually bought the game on day one. You're looking at around 5-6 million sales, which is a ridiculous number considering EA won the poo award for shittest company two years in a row. As a person who worked for a company that was bought by EA many years ago (Westwood Studios,) your report brought back memories of what happened to Westwood Studios under the dictatorship of EAs' make money at all costs philosophy. Westwood Studios was closed down. I foresee the same for Bioware! One only has to look at what happened after EA bought Westwood Studios. Key personnel who were working on Earth and Beyond were either moved to work on John Madden sports games or left. People were put in places of importance (ie. Community leads) who had NO real grasp of their new roles.

Dragon Age: Live Service already has me incredibly skeptical. The way these devs talk about the future of Anthem is also telling when they say things like "i would like to see Anthem succeed..." because it all comes off as hopeful instead of confident (eg "i look forward to seeing Anthem succeed...") and this sort of uncertainty in their words can only mean they have no assurances and only pressure from EA to right the ship (and fast) or prepare to go down with it.

A narrow view of the situation. A "failed" game for EA, still nets them profits and doesn't hurt the investors or company. The only ones that get hurt are the developers caught in the middle of it. On top of that, the IPs and studios involved are at risk of going away for good; only to have the cycle begin anew. If anything, every failure of EA is entirely our loss, not theirs, so don't be happy about it.

Not only is DA4 going to be a live service, but they've said on multiple occasions quite cheerfully that "they are going to use Anthem's code base." I mean they are legitimately saying it like it's a good thing. Yes I am a software engineer, I get code reuse and it doesn't mean it's going to be exactly Anthem. However, Anthem has been such a monumental cluster f, I just imagine that the code base is going to be just as much of a cluster f. Especially since it's going to be a bunch of rushed code, developed specifically for Anthem in like the last 12 - 18 months when they finally actually started full production on the game. It's hard to imagine how much of it's going to actually be useful outside of Anthem, without being fully reworked or just rebuilt from the ground up because that'll probably be easier in many cases.

I simply can't agree with this because my experience (I specced into Charisma heavily, and played a pure saber/firearm build) led me into a very fun and varied experience, best I've played since Dragon Age 1 (taking into account the limitations of the small studio), and while I see it's more than possible to cheese the game and make combat a boring swingfest, I simply chose not to do that, and that enriched my experience. i specifically can't agree with the quests being fetch quests above all but that may be because a Charisma playthrough leads to minimal backtracking

In other words Bioware's current plans for Anthem is to drip feed timed content over their "live service" each month for the foreseeable future instead of permanently making it a part of the base game 'which is what everyone agrees it should be doing. Anthem has got to be the bigest video-game failure of 2019 right up there with Rage 2, Farcry: New Dawn, Left Alive and Crackdown 3 lol. Anthem will be lucky if it sees it's 1 year anniversary in 2020 if EA's "track record" is anything to go by lol.

Rage 2 was the announcement that literally came outta nowhere at E3 2018 but i still played it JUST so i could see mutant bash tv again ^.^ however "slow as f*ck" is the perfect saying to describe that game. And in case you haven't realized by now... Bethesda is walking in sh!t up to their elbows because they keep taking shortcuts, keep trying to screw us over by lying to us about everything and are absolutely insistent on continuing to do so... They even had the nerve to air a corporate apology at E3 this year but their still using that creation engine for Starfield and possibly ESVI... it's friggin madness! As for Farcry New Dawn it's 'at best a piss-weak expansion of Farcry 5 'cause of all the American's getting butt-hurt and offended of the boarderline southern white supremacist, racism and fanaticism bullsh!t. At worst it doesn't even try to hide the very cringey writing of the main antagonist's or lack of effort that went into it and yet despite this obvious asset flip Ubisoft tote's another "live service" marketplace in front of our faces expecting us to give them money all over again. Every Ubisoft game that came out AFTER Watchdogs thanks to their "updated corporate mandate" (much like EA) has been utter garbage (including the AC games and everything inbetween).
