I mean, I understand not wanting to look suspicious, but it would be so easy and reasonable to decline their request. I've told police at my door I wouldn't speak to them before about active investigations, and it would be completely understandable for him to say "Hey this is ancient history, the case has clearly gone cold. I wish you luck but I'm very busy and I've always been told not to speak to police without a lawyer, no thanks." I guess that getting away with it for almost 20 years made him arrogant. He must have believed it was impossible for them to prove anything so long after the crime-but if that's the case, why bother trying to clear your name? I'm glad he was so stupid and overconfident

As a parent, a neighbor, without kids that live with him, having other kids over to his house for food and "play" is about as big of a red flag as you can get. There's no freaking way I'm letting my kid go over to an adult's house, unless it's to play with their children. Unless I have my kids with me at the time, I won't even engage with another person's child. There is absolutely no reason for a grown man to be hanging out, or associating with, with children.

There are a multitude of upstanding male citizens who help and men in general should not be looked at as criminals because of the few like this. If my next door neighbor wouldn’t have invited me over for supper all of the time when I was a kid, I would have been a very hungry child. And that’s all he was, an advocate for me and any other kid who needed an adult who gave a crap about us.

THIS. This right here. Unless myself and the other parents have met and spoken beforehand I don’t bring anyone’s kids over, and mine don’t go to another house. It’s not just about appearances - it’s about us parents knowing what’s going on and keeping ALL of the kids safe. I’m saddened that this child didn’t have someone to look out for her in this way… but all we parents can do is our best to try to keep it from happening.

I’d say watch out for anyone who wants to “help” your kids. No normal people want to be around kids like that. Normal people naturally don’t believe it’s right to hang out with other people’s kids. @azinone9876

this isn't true, actually. I work at my kids' elementary school during lunch and recess, so I've gotten to know the kids really well. I adore them, in the most appropriate way. We connect through sports and/or activities, and I would absolutely love hanging out with them after school hours. Some people connect with kids, and of course there are those who take advantage and hurt them, but to suggest it's odd or weird for adults to connect to and/or spend time with kids isnt normal...isn't right. I say this with respect, understanding your perspective, but just want to pipe in bc there are MANY adults who influence kids in the best ways. So many of my teachers were mentors of mine, and a big reason is they spent time with me outside of school. MOST of us arent pedos and murderers. It's horrifying when an adult is, but generally speaking most people have honest intentions. ☺

@@azinone9876I think both of you are right. People who have jobs in education aren't completely safe, but at least there are a lot of safeguards set up in schools to prevent bad things from happening. I'm a private music teacher, so I go to people's houses and teach their kids piano. But there are still boundaries of what I should/shouldn't do with these kids. It isn't possible or appropriate for an adult to be friends with children in any circumstance. As a parent myself, I would be VERY CAREFUL who I let hang around my children in this day and age. I've watched tons of these interrogation videos, and once in a while, you come across a detective or detectives who you really like, who are really good. And I liked these two a lot! Their delivery and style are like a cross between characters from the movie "Fargo" and the TV show "The Andy Griffith Show." They were so gentle, yet they never let up. They were relentless yet always remained delicate and soothing. If you were a suspect in that room with them, you might be fooled into thinking that they aren't all that smart, maybe a little slow upstairs -- but you would find yourself in for a huge surprise. 👍

An ex-friend of mine's girlfriend at the time, Christy(Christine) Wolfe, was murdered when we were like 15. She was 14? I think and her best friend's dad snuck into her apartment bedroom window and murdered her. Smh. It was messed up. His name is/was James Casey. You can look it up. My best friends mom went missing a few years before that. Her name was Jan Todd. Her body, & the man she went missing with, Jodie Toney, was found like 10 yrs later. They were buried in his truck under a 75 ft tall gravel mound at a local gravel company. A worker found the truck while attempting to move gravel from the mound. 15 yrs later, they still have never arrested anyone for it when it's obvious someone at the company was involved. Look it up also lol. I'm not making any of this up. I also lived with a serial killer for around 3 months back around 2003. He was friends with my roommate at the time and stayed on our couch one summer. No one knew that at the time. Only that he was a person of interest in a case from the 90s where a girl went missing, named Kristy O'Pry. We didn't know this at the time, either. His name is Eric Mickelson. He ended up killing an old man around 2010 and maybe the man's gf. I don't recall exactly. But he admitted to killing Kristy, also. The guy was a weirdo. Always read the Bible and tried quoting scripture and having Bible studies like he just got home from prison. For all I know, he might have. He reminded me of a wannabe conman. Thought he was charismatic and slick but he wasn't. And I was friends with a guy that's in prison for life on armed robbery charges. They also suspect him in a drug-related quadruple homicide and a bunch of other violent home invasions, robberies, and murders. Apparently it all stopped when he went to jail, they said. When the FBI asked me why I was hanging out with someone like that, I said 'I met him thru mutual friends and knew his reputation. So I made sure he was with me and not against me because you don't want an enemy like him. I knew what he was capable of. Or what I had heard anyway. And I wanted no part of that part of him." No, I'm not exaggerating or making it up. The last guys name was Jerrod Johnson. You can look it up too. His name plus quadruple homicide.
