DIY Spring Plush Chicken & More Pinterest Spring Craft Ideas (BPC39)

It's finally spring, and the weathers still awful! However that's not going to stop me attempting to make some spring inspired craft ideas from Pinterest! In this episode we whip out the sewing machine and attempt to make a DIY spring plush chicken! We battle with tiny buttons to try and make a pepper shaker flower vase. And then we also have a little cheat, and buy a pre-made birdhouse and essentially just hot glue loads of spring inspired decorations to it and call it a day! But I think these spring inspired Pinterest craft ideas all looked lovely in the end, and I was very excited to get my sewing machine out to make the DIY spring plush chicken! I think to stop your fabric from puckering as you called it. You sow of the seams together, the best way I can explain this look at a cushion or other sown item and if you should notice a little in the middle. Turn the fabric inside out, and you should see two flaps sown together. If you have Instagram or something I can send uou pictures of what I'm trying to explain what can do to help tighten the fabric.

You did an awesome job! like so proud of you for hand sewing buttons and a bow on!. Tip: Pull the thread through the needle and you are doubling it. You're then tying a knot with the ends, that way your know is hidden inside the work!

Ant, I love the crafts you did today, especially the birdhouse. Yours was way nicer than the one you based it on. That idea with the wire and buttons will be my next craft idea with my 8yr old granddaughter, she's obsessed with making things. By the way here's a tip for you; fold your fabric in half when you are cutting out two of anything for sewing, it makes it so much quicker, and the two pieces will be identical. The reason your fabric bird for a few puckered bits on it was that you needed to put more stuffing into it, that was all. I think you are doing incredibly well with your sewing machine. Kudos to you for all the effort you put into learning how to use it.

I really do enjoy your adventures into crafting, they give me such a giggle. Next time you try a sewing project making stuffed chicken type things, fold the material in half and inside out and cut both parts at the same time. Or if you want multiples you could fold twice or more and cut it all just once. Making a pattern out of paper first, makes it easier. You could sew dog toys, they'd probably enjoy them. I was never into girly things but I taught myself how to do them, boring, would have preferred to build a muscle car or a sleeper car (disguised muscle car), dad thought I was a boy😂 Can't wait to see what's next.

The duck's so cute! I love the yellow polka dot fabric! Also, you can sew buttons on some sewing machines, but... the risk vs reward is a little scewed lol. Some machines come with a special foot that you can set a zig zag stitch with, but if you forget to turn off the feed dogs (which I always do lol), then you run the risk of the needle exploding.

I live in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. The UK weather sounds identical to ours lol. I had a friend who was adopted by a British guy, he said the weather here, in Washington State, reminds him of the weather in the UK lol. It rains all the time, even in the summer. The skies are usually grey. Summer doesn't feel like it lasts very long. There are more cases of Seasonal Affective Disorder and lower vitamin D levels in the Pacific Northwest (we get vitamin D from the sun) than other parts of the US. In the spring, there will be a few really nice days and then it pours down rain again lol. 😂 Btw love your crafts, they came out so cute!

Super job as usual Ant. I would have bought a ready made bird house too. Who has the time to make these things? I think I loved the bird house the best, although the button flowers were a very close second! Your chicken was adorable but I have to ask - why did you not make a paper pattern first? It would have made it easier to get the shape you were after! Super proud of you and your new found expertise at sewing!! ❤❤
