I MADE A LOT OF MISTAKES!! | Lets Try Nail Art/Painting My Nails

So today I was inspired to try painting my nails and attempt some nail art with nail polish. And I honestly went into this video thinking it would be the easiest thing I have ever done....oh how I was wrong! Why did nobody tell me that painting your nails, especially when you barely have any nails, is sooo difficult! Not only is it quite tricky to get the nail polish on your nails, as soon as it lands on your skin (which was quite often) it was almost impossible to remove without loads of acetone! I think I would actually really enjoy having painted nails and I definitely think it would stop me biting them, and I think I will attempt it again in the future. I'm not sure whether the failure of painting my nails comes down to me being poorly or if my nail painting skills just aren't up to scratch! This was a great video! I really hope to see you try again. I don't know the brand, but in my experience those quick dry polishes are hit and miss. One major tip I would give is to work with thinner coats - the more paint on the nail, the longer it takes to fully set. If you work in thin thin coats, usually by time you finish doing both hands with their first coat, the hand you started on will be ready for its second. Don't worry if the first coat is streaky, the second one will smooth that out! You can do a touch test before doing a second coat, kind of like how you were feeling the base coat when it was dried! About 5 mins between each coat works for me, but always check and make sure it doesn't feel sticky or tacky before doing the next! For the top coat going on nail art, you want to give EXTRA drying time before doing the top coat, to avoid smudging. And, when you're brushing it on, you should also do this in thin coats, and don't press the brush down at all - you're kind of "floating" it just above the nail and letting it roll off the brush onto the nail. When you're putting the polish on your non dominant hand, I find that it helps me a lot to kind of balance the finger I am painting on the edge of the table in front of me, and tilt my hand down so that the nail is facing me more ( sorry i don't know how to explain it! ). Then, with the hand holding the brush, I keep it firmly on the table to balance it, and really only move the fingers that are holding the brush - it helps keep my hand steady! You can also tilt the finger you are painting as needed to get better angles to paint on. For clean up, using a spare small brush works wonders for dipping into acetone and getting in all the small places to make it look nice, but its best to do this before the polish has dried too much in order to get the cleanest edge. You can do it when it is dry, too, though! Once you are all finished, wait like 10 mins and do another touch test, if the top coat feels dry you're NEARLY good to go. You should probably wait an hour before doing anything really involved with your hands or getting them wet. Even though the polish feels dry to the touch, it can actually take much much longer to fully set and become that nice hard material that is more durable - but the more used to it you get the easier it is to do stuff while still being careful of "wet nails".

Don't worry, Ant, the nail polish on your skin will wear off as you do dishes and stuff. You can leave it on. You need to put pretty thin coats on and let them dry for about 20 min each coat. Did you make sure to buy regular polish and not Gel polish bc that needs a UV light to set. Black and dark blue takes a REALLY LONG time to set even so, the darker the color the color the longer it takes to set. The more coats, the longer it takes to set. For nail art, there are super tiny brushes you can get. Sorry it didn't work well, it was probably your cold 😊

Well done for taking the time to experience this 💅 You're meant to do them in 3 or 4 strokes and do the opposite hand that I don't write with first. Don't paint so close to the edges. Once it dries you can kinda peel the polish away from your skin. You can use tiny stencils. Buy a cheap set of nails at the dollar store and practice your artwork. I would love to see a skull on the black. I think you did good and better than most of us on our first try. It shouldn't smear off like that. I am sorry it made you crazy. Proud of you for trying :)

Black is a hard color to use. If you really want to stop bitting your nails. Find a nail shop get a man style lay over. You won't bit them and your nails will grow. This is one of your best videos. 😅😅😅

I only stopped biting my nails two years ago Ant. It is so hard for me to paint my nails, even though I have a bit of length now. A better quality nail polish is key I've learned. The one you were using was a very cheap make if it's already peeling off your fingers. Try OPI or ESSIE nail polish which are both good ones to use. Another one that helped me was SALLY HANSEN, they have a nail growth polish and that helped my nails to grow faster. You are correct tho in what you said, if you paint your nails you will stop biting them quicker, because after spending so long painting them, you will find that you don't want to destroy your hard work. I bit my nails for over 60 yrs, and I managed to give it up by using good quality polishes and using the Sally Hansen nail growth polish too. A good quality nail oil is good or a good moisturiser like Aveeno which is what I use, as you need moisture to grow your nails. Either way I hope you don't give up, because your nails don't look as bad as mine did before I stopped biting them. There is definitely hope for your nails. Good luck Ant.

For your first try, it looks really good! It takes a lot of practice to achieve what I think you were trying to create. Also, imo, gel polish is much easier than regular polish. Gel needs a UV or led nail dryer that can be purchased on Amazon. The cool thing about gels is that they are easy to remove before "nuking" them under the light. Also, using nail art brushes can help with creating crisp lines. I like to cheat by using nail art stickers. They look amazing and are easy to apply. Thank you for another awesome video❤.

Damn good try Ant. Some nail varnishes are like that, they just peel off and don’t seem to set properly. Even expensive ones sometimes! Try going to a ‘proper’ nail place and see how they do it, then have another go. Don’t give up simply because of what others may say, it’s your body not theirs. Try purple with silver sprinkle it looks great in my opinion!, Hope you feel better soon.❤

Paint around your nails with school glue, let that dry, then paint your nails. Let that dry, then peel the glue off. This should leave you with neatly polished/varnished nails! Hehe, says me who can only paint my left-hand nails as I'm right-handed and totally rubbish on trying to do my right hand, and I've taken to just painting my thumb nail lately, just for the hell of it! 😂

You can paint liquid latex around your nails before you start to stop polish getting on your skin … super satisfying to peel off after too

I think you'd like it too. Try using your paint brush to paint around the nail, a u shape then use the polish brush and paint down the center. That may help.

LOL I just did my nails last night. I decided that this year I was going to do ONE thing for just me, ya know? I figured that since I already work with resin, especially the UV resin, I have a lot of products that already cross over. Nail decals, tiny thin brushes, uv lights, etc. So I've played around with a lot of different products to figure out what I like. Last night I used a metallic teal and then used these silver decals on a few nails. I have a metallic silver powder I wanted to use. So I dipped the very tip of my paint brush (long thin brush) into the clear polish, dipped it into the silver powder and painted a silver streak and put a star at the end for shooting stars. OMG it was so simple but it looked so good! LOL With anything you do, it takes practice. And it sounds like you might have let it dry long enough between coats. I watched the first Star Wars movie and half of the second one doing my nails. Just time to mentally check out for a bit. I have a craft faire this weekend so I have squirrel brain right now LOL So please don't give up! I got a kit off temu that has a plastic finger that you can put a false nail on so you can decorate it before applying. Just practice and you'll get it. :) I hope you are feeling better hun!

My (deceased) mother always painted her nails, just with two or three strokes and then she was done. Looked beautiful. Now I've tried it a few times, but it doesn't work either. It became a big mess. Tried a few more times, but gave up disappointed and frustrated. There is more nail polish on my fingers, nose, table, chairs than on my nails.

Oh Ant! I’m so sad you are still feeling poorly. I’m chronically ill so I really understand how draining it can be on your emotions and energy to be sick for a long time. You have my empathy ❤ I thought your nails looked great. You have lovely hands. Very sexy indeed! I’m lousy at painting my nails and I pay someone else to do it now on the rare occasions I want it done. For a first attempt you did really well. If you added extra coats it makes the dried coat a bit soft so maybe that’s why you got a smudge. 😢 The best thing for tidying up the edges is a q-tip. You know, those things you’re not supposed to put in your ears!?! I’m totally with you on being able to dress or decorate your body however you like. Be yourself and just do you. A person is better judged by their actions than their appearance. Plenty of beautiful people are total bitches and plenty of us weirdos have hearts of gold and make good friends. I blame religion for a lot of the gender stuff too. But that’s obviously a minefield you don’t want to step into on social media. (This is my own opinion people and I’m perfectly entitled to it. 😛) Sending you virtual tissues and hugs to help you feel better. I noticed no sneaky snot globs in this video 😂😂😂❤

Try gel polish. Thin coats. Using a uv light. Dotting tools work great for nail art. Liquid latex works ok. Use mainly one color then paint one or two fingers with a similar glitter color. That could be easy n artsy for you ant. Your layers were to thick. That's why you thought it was set but under it was still wet. So it clumped off at the end. Once your able to stop biting you get a bit of length. It will be easier to paint. Gender rules.. who cares! I don't give people like that a second thought. Let them look. They will be thinking about us later and we won't give a hoot! Do you. Please try again. Maybe try a bit lighter of a color next time. A pretty teal, and a glitter teal. Beautiful

Gel polish is a bit more expensive but totally worth it.... Sets in seconds paint as many layers as you like and most times it peels off when you want it to. Sometimes before lol.

It really is a shame that there's so much focus on gender and presentation matching. And then that repression and stress over it makes people lash out even more. We just need to as a whole embrace that people can enjoy what they enjoy so long as they aren't hurting anyone My friend and I talk about that a lot because neither of us fits what's expected either. We're both female, but neither are feminine. I prefer to be very much on the masculine side and she likes a mix of both but leaning masculine too. And oh man the backlash from friends over the years, and she got a lot of garbage from her family over it. It just doesn't make sense to make people miserable for something so pointless As for the nails you did a decent job! It's possible it didn't dry underneath because the coats were too thick, so it slid off easily. Thinner coats even if it means you need two of the colour is better in the end. Also for some reason with the top coat you need to move fast or else it re-wets the colour and smears it onto the brush. I'm impressed at how little you got on your skin though, I like to paint my nails once in a while and I don't ever seem to improve in that regard Hope you feel better soon!
