Certified ASE master auto technician 43 years. I do have some past experience with this product. if you were experiencing a 1 quart loss after 3000 miles previous to the product and now you are experiencing substantially less oil consumption, it would indicate that one or more of your oil rings in one or more cylinders, was stuck to the piston and has been freed. In my opinion, I think it would be optimum to continue this product changing your oil every 3000 miles. After 10 oil changes, I think that you would discover that the product performs as advertised. as a footnote, you mentioned 0% oil consumption. This is not possible with an internal combustion engine. There is always some oil consumption no matter how minimal. Thank you sir.

Hi guys based on all these comments I am reading Anthony your advice is good based on your experience you need to tell people that using this stuff at your own risk that u should not be responsible if something does go wrong after using this stuff...I am believer in changing oil every 3 months or 3000 miles and don't think I will need to use this stuff that people are trying especially cause my engine is running perfectly fine...that being said people that are using 0w20 can easily switch to a 5w30 with no issues to combat oil consumption a lot of these issues is due to the thin oil and oil dilution issues combined with it ...I spoke to an engineer at Castrol he stated 5w30 will work fine on any car that calls for a 0w20...the 0w20 is geared for fuel economy standards to squeeze out the best fuel economy by manufacturers...I would not use this restore product on normal oil changes treat it as a flush product its all a marketing scheme by Valvoline and also Valvolines other oils have a better additive package for engine protection than this stuff...The guy I spoke to at Castrol stated its a marketing scheme but don't use it for regular oil changes. I called Valvoline they also told me the high mileage Valvoline protects better than this restore product on high mileage vehicles so that being said explains this is more for flushing out carbon and not to be driving around with this oil with will circulate all the carbon through the whole engine and possibly plug up the pcv system and filters along with it

Nice Title… Anyway, your average engine that’s had regular service isn’t loaded with deposits and there’s no fear of clogging any filter. Valvoline themselves say their cleaning process takes 4x oil changes. That’s 12,000 miles worth of driving @ 3k intervals or 20,000 miles worth of driving @ 5k intervals. That’s literally several years worth of slow and gentle cleaning. There’s nothing aggressive happening in the engine with this oil. It’s not an engine flush additive. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Relax people.

I bought a used 2008 Silverado 1500 4.8 with 128k miles. Dipstick was mostly clean, but not shiny, no burn marks. I’m using 1 qt R&P with 5 quarts Valvoline 75k full synthetic Maxlife. I’m going to take it slow. After 500 miles the oil is clear and the dipstick is shiny. I figure I’ll use this approach for a year and then once a year put 1 qt of R&P in. I’m doing 4k or 4 month oil changes with a Purolator filter. I want to see this truck hit 300k miles. Thanks for your video.

Need advice. Bought 2008 GMC w/5.3 from a former coworker. 103k miles. They replaced lifters but not the cam, and it has a misfire because the cam lobe is bad. I bought cheap and I am pulling the motor, taking to machine shop. I am doing a dod delete with all parts from melling, felpro and genuine GM/AC Delco parts. new wires, plugs, melling DOD delete cam, lifters, timing set and oil pump. GM updated PCV system integrated into the drivers side rocker cover and a GM non DOD valley cover with new GM oil pressure sending unit and pressure screen. A new billet bar bell or oil diverter plug and front and rear mail oil seals. The machine shop will install and check all plus do the heads and install new bearings on the crank..... should I use the restore and protect from the start and do you see any problems with that or just use regular full synthetic engine oil? I never go past 5k on an oil change. On the freshing up what should be my first oil change and when to go back to the regular 5k oil change schedule?

Year's ago valve seals (I've done a few on OHV engines) would go bad causing oil consumption and spark plug fouling. Now seems like factory loose fit piston rings and various bad engine designs and changes in motor oil viscosity and formulas are leading to oil consumption at fewer miles than expected. Not to mention the concept of the "Maintenance Free" engine and owners not checking or changing their oil. The average Joe (or Jill) Blow needs to understand that the 10,000-20,000 mile oil change interval is a sales tool to trick customer into thinking it saves them money and in theory the "environment".

My first VQ53DE used a quart every 400 to 600 miles back in 2021 in response to the broken car market. There was no smoke, but liked to eat O2 sensors. I tried the 505 CRO by ATS Chemical recommended by Scotty Kilmer and there was no improvement. I eventually upgraded the engine at a speed shop after the dealership wasted $3K in repairs. I wonder if a dealership would waste $40K of your money and STILL have you driving a broken vehicle if you bring them a problem vehicle with a "whatever it takes" mindset.

I've run Seafoam in my oil regularly 1 ounce per quart of oil ratio before Restore came out, I'm literally switching over to Restore with my next oil change just to keep things moving and to clean up the hydraulic tensioners which tend to not fully extend on my 5.7 Tundra, my thoughts are that the hydraulic tensioners gum up a little and don't fully extend and that causes "chain slap" basically I'm switching for maintenance value, nothing happening currently.

A friend of mine works at Valvoline he told me don't use this product as regular oil changes he did say it's essentially an engine flush and its not to be used for regular oil changes it lacks the protection of regular Valvoline he did say. A lot of the additives from regular Valvoline is not in this oil.

@lgoamity
@lgoamity 3 күн бұрын
@@joeshmoe8952For "Best Results", Valvoline actually wants people to use Restore and Protect, yes for the 4 Change Intervals, to achieve the "up to 100% (or 99.9% in Australia)" Deposit Removal BUT to also suggests using it Continuously/Consistently going forward. So this "person" who claims to work for Valvoline has quite a story to tell... Maybe they should tell a Journalist or better yet Valvoline itself... Since Valvoline has had VRP on the Market for over a Year already and it was already in development for FAR LONGER... Seems like someone is just spreading Conspiracy Theories... While Valvoline doesn't give/claim Change Intervals (like 10K,15K, or 25K mile "Protection"), it does say it will meet the Factory Intervals ... Now I personally have Oil Analysis for "my vehicle" when relying on my previous Oil Change which was a Full Synthetic Castrol ( claiming"10,000 mile Protection") or my GM OLM (7500 miles/12 months) and somehow BOTH apparently are not accounting for Oil Dilution from "Short Tripping"... My 3-4K mile Intervals so far have been basically "my safe limit". Analysis however suggests I should be able to go 4-5K miles if I can keep the Oil Dilution under control... That said Valvoline seemed to have used an approx 4000 mile Interval (See the Motor Oil Geek's Video when he visited the Valvoline Test Lab... The "first change interval" display sample was at 90 hours(?)/4000 miles...)) As you might know Motor Oil Geek has made some "BIG" claims recently about relying on a GM OLM for its change Interval without needing Analysis... In part because the OLM/DEXOS Oil has some additional margin of protection built in for even after Oil Life is 0%... Also, apparently on relying on 10,000 mile Intervals on his own Family Vehicle when there is physical evidence (on the Dipstick) that the Engine is doing poorly with such a long interval... While apparently the Oil is/could be "OK"... The Engine isn't happy. Long Story Short... There are a lot VRP users seeing the benefits of its use. There are a fair number of users that say they will use VRP for 2-4 intervals (until the Consumption/problems go away) then switch to another Oil... Possibly going back and forth "as needed"... People will need to decide what works for their engine best. Personally, I'm going to let Science/Oil Analysis dictate what happens. I have several quarts of different Oils I would like to "use up" after I've got a VRP baseline... If the Analysis shows that it is comparable, I might just "rotate" between oils on various factors... But if there is a significant "hit" between switches and it (for example) would take 2 intervals to "regain" Deposit clean up after say 1 year off/on... I might just consider the $5-$10 savings by using a cheaper non-VRP Oil not worth it... Time will tell (I am kind of "cheating" right now. I decided today at 3 months/3008 miles/59% OLM... To just take samples, change the Filter and Actually "top off" with a Quart or so of NOT VRP... So technically I'm sort of messing up my attempt at 4 changes/100% Deposits. The Quaker State DexosGen3 Full Synthetic may or may not "play nice" with my 4ish Quarts of 3000+ mile VRP and maybe set me back a bit... Guess I'll find out)

Define "piston soak" I've always recommended that people can pull the spark plugs, fill the chambers, let sit overnight, crank out the sitting Seafoam and repeat one more time in order to free carbon locked piston rings on engines, I personally am ocd so I'd even do it 3 times then throw the spark plugs in and take it on the highway and race it around for 1 hour to blow out any carbon.

@pitek298 - that’s a “reasonable” usage amount. Topping off the oil after a few thousand miles of use and then continue running it until your maintenance light comes on isn’t a bad thing… you’ve just gotta remember to check and add a bit of oil as needed (don’t wait until it needs a full bottle)

No, I had a 97 Town Car that lost 1 quart every 3,000 miles, it had 137k miles, definitely within acceptable limits, I had a brand new 1992 Diesel engine that used 1 quart every 2,000 miles, some engines do lose oil through the piston rings so you could try switching to Valvoline Restore to loosen up the piston rings that likely are carbon locked to some extent.
