the problem with the "trans men gaining male privilege" conversation is that trans men/transmasculine people who are read as men only experience that _so long as the people interacting with them don't know they're trans._ trans men still don't experience all the same privileges cis men do and the privileges they do experience rely on being able to hide the fact they're trans. often times when this topic is brought up those points are forgotten(or in some situations purposefully ignored) which really sucks

Unfortunately yes. It makes me tired because I’m percueved as “female” all the time. So when I’m at university when I finally got my name changed on my id card, my student ID, emails, and student rosters, it’s always in the back of my mind. “Before they talk to me what gender do they think I am” And then when I tell them my name. “Ok. Once heard an analogy that I think might be helpful to cisgender people: You dont normally feel your bones yea? You cant wiggle your arm and feel the bone moving around. However, you can feel them when they're bruised or broken. The reason cisgender people dont understand is because they cant "feel" their gender since it's not "broken". For transgender people, their gender is "broken" and that's why we feel that disconnect from body and mind.

I remember being 17 and learning about trans people here on youtube. I was absolutely disgusted. I projected what my family had taught me, that these people were against nature and god and they were evil and mentally ill. At 23 I came out as trans, and at 24 I started transitioning. I had to deal with a lot of internalized transphobia. But accepting yourself is so freeing. I'm now 28 and have had top surgery and I'm the happiest I've ever been in my life. For the first time I can look in the mirror and like what I see.

As a child I was taught to hate queer people, especially trans people. Unfortunately my country wasn’t, and still isn’t accepting of us (there are plans for not one, but two anti LGBT rallies for the next week, and I am so scared that that might mean even less public acceptance) I would like to let you know that I’m so happy for you. Learning to look past the hate you were taught to have can be so hard, but the end result is just so rewarding. I look forward to when I’ll finally be able to feel safe and be myself, and I hope for a future that grants all trans people nothing but safety and happiness.

@@worrywirt Could be, the thing is usually with how visibly trans/passing you are (from my own experience). From the internet and life overall, trans women, especially those who started transitioning ater puberty or never want to transition medically at all are usually "easier to spot" as some folks say. I can definitelly see the difference as a trans guy (pre-transitioned), I feel like transmascs are babied or just straight up ignored when they say they are transwhen pre-transition (but I cannot testify for transitioned transmascs- yet), while trans women get the same standards as cis men -what I mean by that is the stereotype of "women wearing suits is ok but when a guy puts on a dress its a whole drama/just straight up wrong" - and on top of that or transfemmes that pass/have transitioned to the point you wouldn't know it unless they told you its usually tied to misogony. As one transphobe in my class said "If they wanna be women they're gonna get treated like real women- which is like crap" Thank you for reading my ted talk :)

That’s a great way to describe something. It’s true, you don’t notice something when it’s right but when it’s wrong you immediately notice. Clothes being too tight, glasses being too strong, socks being wet. It’s the type of thing that you notice and it makes you feel so uncomfortable but everyone else can’t feel that since their clothes fit just fine or their socks are dry.

I have had this quite literally. Was in a training exercise in thick jungles, barely felt the tips of my appendages from the extreme fatigue of carrying heavy loads through very uneven terrain for the whole day. while not thinking about foot placement, I stepped on the side of my foot, and I heard a pop and my feet shift inwards, and immediately knew that was it, my ankle's gone. Immediately forced myself to fall to the other side and my mates were like," wtf u doin." I later found out that I had straight up torn my ligament and from my mates perspective, I was walking along fine until I suddenly dropped, which looked wierd af to them. You don't feel anything good when everything is great, but you feel like shit when 1 thing's out of place.

My best friend is a trans man. He taught me so much, not only about the trans experience, but about life all around. He once told me “I’ve lived life as both a woman and a man, through that, I realized how differently they’re treated day to day. Before I transitioned, I was being catcalled on a regular basis even as early as 10 years old. After I transitioned, no one ever paid any attention to me, it’s as if I’ve faded into the background, that no one even sees me. I’ve realized that women almost always get unwanted attention and men rarely get any attention at all”. Yea, there's a form of comp-het many trans mascs deal with relating to before they come out or when they're still pressured to fill "female" gender roles, I dealt with a lot of that growing up, no matter what I wanted, everyone insisted I had to be with cis men, I had to "do things" a certain way, etc. Pregnancy, especially now post roe, has always been my largest fear, even though I don't do anything that can get me pregnant, I'd hardly be the only guy who was pregnant against his will, so the fear is still there.

If this is the first time you've been introduced to trans men, it's important you know not all of them are straight. Not all trans men feel attraction exclusively to women. Some are gay, others are bi or pan and can even be asexual. They're all valid and none of them is more "manly" than the others. Gender expression and gender identity are not necessarily related. Some trans men consider themselves somewhat feminine or androgynous and that's OK. Gender expression and sexual orientation can be very diverse within the trans community as a whole. I recognized the dysphoria starting with puberty but now I've realized that I had a similar experience to him in that I was kinda a tomboy and didn't like "girly" stuff. But once puberty started then I became uncomfortable with my body and hiding it basically. As a child/teen my dysphoria was so bad that I got severe depression. I can't even remember like 4 years of my life, my brain literally repressed it. Being trans almost killed me, more than once. I wish I could go back to me during that time and tell myself that it would get better. I'm now 20 years old, almost 4 years on T (started at 17), I've had top surgery, I'm in a healthy relationship, I'm stealth as much as possible (living without telling people I'm trans). I'm also changing my legal gender this fall/winter and I'm getting information about bottom surgery from a surgeon soon (just info, no surgery plans). I never thought I'd get this far in my transition, I think younger me would be happy if he could see where we are right now. He never thought it would get better, that we could live a normal life as a man. But he was wrong and I wish I could show him that

“We don’t understand it but we love you” is something all parents should be ready to tell their kids at any point. Because it’s not about understanding sexuality and gender and all their intricacies, it’s about seeing your child as a human person that has their own life and is someone who exists completely detached from you, and that is trusting you to love them after telling you who they are. If your child’s gender or sexuality being different from the “norm” bothers you enough that you reject them, you should never have become a parent to begin with. This said, these guys are gorgeous and I always stress out how much trans people glow and how beautiful they are. As a trans man, it’s sometimes hard seeing things like this, because my childhood was different. I was so extremely girly it was insane, I would be the girliest of them all. However, when puberty hit for me, I suddenly felt so uncomfortable. I just set it aside because “everyone feels uncomfortable” but it was just, painful. I love feminine things, but the thought of someone seeing me in feminine light felt so wrong. When I did find out about trans people, it really clicked for me. I was just like “oh shit that’s me”. But I also pushed it down because so many trans men spoke about how when they were children they didnt like dresses or girly stuff etc, and I just was like “oh, I guess I’m not trans.” Purely because I was inherently feminine. One time on the internet though, I decided to pick up a character, to act as someone else so my parents couldn’t find my account. I chose the name Neil and pretended to be a gay man who did art. And it felt so right. I loved when people would comment and call me Neil and use he/him. Soon I started using the name Neil at school and it felt so so good. In my senior year of high school, I let my transgender identify out as much as possible, but dressed how I wanted. I was so weird and goth and feminine with the identity of a man and I loved it. Im more toned down now, but I love being Neil. I love hearing my voice drop. But I will never dislike the little girly girl I was a child, because she was happy that way.

I’m trans fem, and I kind of agree though. I was never ultra masculine but also not ultra feminine. I liked a mix of things like piercings, make up, bright flamboyant colors, Call of Duty, GTA, BB guns, getting into fights, etc. Actually I think the reason I was violent because my sister always physically assaulted me. My point is that I don’t think I’m the average trans person being extremely indifferent to your assigned gender as a kid. Puberty was also a big thing for me where it made me suicidal and uncomfortable developing masculine things.

I always lived in a house that wasn't really feminine and live in a smaller town where education about gender is still taboo. At one point, I was not gonna start transitioning because of what my family has said to me and the transphobia I've came across online. (Especially, a lot of hate from transphobes online. Trans people have all my respect. I have couple trans friends, so I hear about all the struggles, experiences and operations they have to go through and it is hard af. @@kate-ec4pj actually that is completely untrue. If anything it's a lot harder for MtF people to accept themselves and come out as trans. I'm not saying it's not hard for women but when girls are little and wear a T-shirt and shorts it's a LOT less frowned upon than a little boy wearing a dress and skirt. FtM people face their own struggles early on as "tom boys" and such often being categorized as lesbians and just unattractive because they dont dress up. But for MtF people the struggles and bullying are a lo tof the times a lot worse especially early on. This causes MtF people to be slightly more likely to repress how they feel about their gender down the line. And often it's easier to catch it at the ages before bullying starts due to the fact that they don't have a perception of why it's wrong to wear a dress and a lot of the times their peers don't either. I also don't understand why someone would go through years of emotional torment, years of therapy, years of financial loss to medical treatment, years of hormone therapy, legal changes and risk being disowned, losing friends, physically assaulted and murdered for a "fetish."

I have the absolute PRIVELEGE of having an accepting mother. She didn't even question it, she just understood. My dad too, even though he's very macho army big man man mans he still accepted me. My step-mom,,, well,, I haven't come out to her yet but I have my doubts shes going to accept me haha so wish me luck!

@@dischorddynne I've never dated a transgender guy. Transgender people are gorgeous and, by surprise, pass as the gender they choose. However, i am concern that the feeling and physical doesn’t match their appearances. Also have the same love and romantic feelings.

Ty bringing up how growing up trans brought about a lot of general anxiety sheds some light on a part of being trans that not a lot of people talk about and that is the sheer *stress* that comes with being trans. Like when I started to present in ways that gave me a lot of gender euphoria, something I didn’t expect was how much more relaxed and confident I was just because I didn’t have this overarching stress of having to put on this masculine persona. It’s really a beautiful part of the trans experience and something which isn’t brought up a lot ❤
