DONT SAY to someone with Schizophrenia, don't say 'oh what if it's real!' or 'you might be seeing another dimension!' or something. That can actually make their hallucinations worse and can induce panic. Don't do that.

When I was 15, I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. When I was 12, I complained to my parents abt hallucinations and hearing things, random sickness, and horrible anxiety. It happened out of nowhere. My friend said that I have most “symptoms” of schizophrenia, and I begged my parents to get me tested. It took 3 YEARS of begging for them to cave in, and that’s because they were annoyed, and what do you know, I had it. I just wish that my parents would’ve listened because I spiraled into severe depression, PTSD, and anxiety. I’m never going to get those 3 years back, but parents, if your kids are complaining about something, please listen

Hello there Peyton. You and I may not know each other but I want you to know that you are one brave individual, and I respect you sooo much for acknowledging the fact that you are in distress. Sorry is just a word, but I’m so sorry that you had to live all these years with parents that didn’t provide a safe space for you since you were a child. They chose not to listen to you, they were always annoyed around you, nothing you did ever seemed to make them love you and you are filled with years of hurt and heartbreak. I want you to know that you are precious, you are important and it’s not your fault that your parents deprived you of love. You matter, you are worthy and nothing is wrong with you. Your parents are just taking out their anger on you for no reason. I hope you get the help that you long for and may you have a successful journey of healing from all the pain your parents caused you since you were a baby. Even if there were children at school who bullied you and teachers who humiliated you, please know that what they did to you was wrong and that you didn’t deserve it. Sending you lots of love and support ✨💝

Same happened to me once Family thought the medicine I was taking would make me grow boobs and be shorter etc cause it had steroids in it when I literally needed it to survive and ignored the doctors requesrs Eventually my body started “rotting” to the point where my arms and legs were so infected and riddled cuts and disease that they said if this continued, they’d just have to slowly start amputating me sinc ethe infections were spreading at a rate where I was losing the ability to move at all. Literally only through begging and pleading, did my folks finally cave. No kid wants to be a burden, but some of us sadly were perceptive enough to pick up on the fact that If we’re not vocal about what’s bugging us and enforce the change ourselves, no one will, because sometimes, no one’s coming to save you, even your parents. And that’s one of the most horrible realizations for a kid to face

I don't know if I have schizophrenia and I don't want to assume I do cuz......... self diagnoses isn't ever good. I just wanted to say what I experience and I want to know if I should talk to a doctor about it. It first started happening when I was 13 and I started developing depression and anxiety. This continued for a while and I struggled with self harm. I became very compulsive and would do things for reason's I didn't know or understood why I did it. I went to the doctor because my parents where worried about me. Later I ended up going to therapy and I figured out I was diagnosed with ADHD and clinical depression. I was prescribed medication but my parents wouldn't let me take them since they thought it was bad for me and how they have sorts of after affects so instead my parents would give me THC as a form of natural medicine. I never fully treated those things but this time it feels different. It isn't really like anything I felt before. I'm have problems remembering things, along with fully forming sentences like I can speak but my mind randomly goes blank. I see this misty sometimes and its like it is right there in my room. I see this figure of a man in the shadows. I always thought it was spirits or whatever. I tried to tell my mom but she just said some people have the minds eye. I don't see them all the time its sometimes and then they disappear then sometimes I see them again. It scares me. Then it has gotten worse where then I became extremely paranoid so much so to the point I always thought someone was out to get me and I had to leave my lights on at so I can see whoever comes into my room. I always am feeling paranoid. I hear this clicking noise and sometimes I feel like I hear someone whisper or say my name and I look around and I am all alone. I have also had experiences where I feel like someone is touching me yet I am alone. It is a very distinct feeling like someone is touching me to the point of if I were to touch myself in the same spot I couldn't tell a difference. I don't know if it is because I am stressed especially since I have been dealing with some major stuff recently or if it is part of my other mental stuff. I am currently 16. I know it isn't as extreme as people with diagnosed schizophrenia feel but is that normal? I know people with ADHD experience other stuff besides just constantly being fidgety, I wonder if it has something to do with that since paranoia is part of ADHD

Mushrooms are very medicinal. This is why anybody familiar with psilocybin and any other kind of fungi will tell you, "They are alive." They have a very ancient wisdom. To my experience, all mushrooms have always said, "Pay attention to your life. How you think, how you feel, and what will you do with the information that you always knew, but now are seeing in this point of view." This is why mushrooms are so respected in tribal cultures. This mental health treatment works for me too. Half micro doses do the trick for me. At least a few days at a time with lengthy time in between. Never addictive. Thank you for sharing this point!

I'm still in disbelief at how complex this illness is. I used to be a support worker for vulnerable adults, I had absolutely no experience and I was thrown straight in supporting many adults with schizophrenia, and I was not prepared or trained at all. I got major backlash from my bosses when I said I am in no way qualified or trained enough to give them the level of help and support they need. It was so unfair on the clients themselves, and honestly just made our company look like incompetent idiots. 😞

Meds are either too strong, barely work, or have a side affect like reduces how hungry you feel which might not sound bad, but I didn't eat lunch on school days for about 4 yrs. Also, the rest of this is just me expressing myself to get this stuff off my chest. Sometimes, your brain when reading just doesn't register what you are reading properly and you read something 7 times over OR you read a paragraph of your book and then you realize that processed none of that because the whole time you were thinking about your favorite DOOM game. Another thing is that I tend to scratch my scabs and pick my nails because I want to do SOMETHING with my hands (why are you still reading this!?). I have meds that are way to strong to the point where it is hard to express myself, I'm always super quiet, and EXTREMELY bored because nothing gives me much joy. Why did you read this??

During my stay at an adolescent mental hospital, the first thing they told us was not to talk about peoples conditions or acknowledge certain things like outbursts or delusions/hallucinations I remember there was a boy who was going through drug withdrawals who had schizophrenia and he was probably the most quiet person I ever met. The idea that people assume schizophrenia makes people dangerous to others honestly boils my blood. His hallucinations almost always caused him extreme fear, there was one case where around 4 AM he sprinted down the hallway where my room happened to be and slammed full force into locked doors to escape something that was chasing him. Another time he had to scrub his hands clean at the nurses station because he could see black ink on his hands and body and it was causing him severe distress. He ended up being moved to a facility better equipped to help him because he was screaming in terror and throwing he and his roommates belongings at a corner of his room In between and during these moments none of the other teens I was with experienced fear or discomfort with him being around us. I think a key aspect in him helping be comfortable was that we didnt talk about his previous episodes or treat him any different The idea that grown adults show less empathy and understanding then a group of mentally ill and paranoid teenagers is appalling

My theory is that for some reason, after the video was posted Anthony or/and Red Headphone guy for some reason felt it was right to take him out of the video. Since the video was already up, Anthony would have had to use KZbins video editor which is known for being very poorand choppy, explaining the rough, seemingly bad/lazy editing cuts. Thank you for saying this! It’s horrible now but as a child I was terrified of schizophrenic people, I thought everyone with it would go crazy and try to kill you. And I had a cousin with severe schizophrenia, so i only saw that or worse on the Internet. Looking back now I feel insanely terrible and guilty that; that was the only way I saw it. I’m happy we’re starting to show everyone’s point of view or there would probably be way more people like I was as a child and probably still me. I’m thankful for all this information. My friend who has schizophrenia passed away at 25 by suicide this September. No one outside of her family knew and by the time they got her diagnosed it was too late, and it seems lockdown pushed her mental health to an even worse place. She still visits me in my dreams, last night was one of those times. And you happened to upload this today. Thank you for spreading more info about this. It's too late for me to do anything for her but I still want to understand what she might have gone through, and this video helps. Rest in peace, Mayuri. You had a beautiful soul. ❤️ EDIT: For anyone else who might read this, please say a little prayer for her soul ❤️ and please check in on your friends and loved ones, let them know there is help if they need it. When I was in the psych ward there were two ladies with schizophrenia and they were two of the sweetest people I have ever met. The ways their schizophrenia affected them was so different, even though both of them had hallucinations. The one saw demons all the time that said horrible things to her constantly, and she could only handle actually talking to people for a short time and then had to go pace the floor. The other one at one point vaulted over the staff counter because she thought she was in a Taco Bell and couldn't find her way out. She could carry on a conversation if you kept asking her questions. I sat and talked with her a lot because nobody else did.

We always talk about how good at this Anthony is, but like, he REALLY is. He's not only super respectful and open-minded, (which should be normal human behavior and should be normalized, not something to be amazed at) but he also knows perfectly how to be completely serious about something, yet still realize when it's okay to laugh or joke around to make his guests feel comfortable and not like they are in a test to just answer questions because they aren't humans that can talk about their situation or that they are victims to feel pity for. It makes them feel like they're just talking to a friend, but while still maintaining the respectful boundaries of interviewer-interviewed. And so it doesn't feel like a making fun of type of video, it still feels like a very serious interview about a very serious topic, but it isn't boring or uncomfortable for the guests and the viewers. It makes the interviewed there look like real people who just happen to be talking about an aspect in their life, and not just >the schizophrenic< or any other thing.

I was in a relationship for almost two years, and me and my ex-boyfriend hadn’t met in person until we decided to try living together. We were so committed to making everything work with our financial situations. But when I met him in person, I kept noticing that he would often “tune out”. He would say to me while we were walking “why are those girls laughing at me?” When we hadn’t passed anyone. He told me there were ghosts that he saw in our apartment. He had times where he was paranoid about the food he ate. And then he had a seizure. It was a focal seizure. He sat and rocked back and forth and whispered things over and over, walked around the apartment. I almost wanted to take him to the emergency room but with covid I knew I couldn’t. I looked up online the symptoms of schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder, and saw all of the similarities he had with it. I also saw that people with these disorders are more likely to have epileptic episodes. I was so distraught, but I had to make him move back in with his loving father, who I knew could take care of him better than a college girl could. He had no idea he was suffering so much. I wish I could’ve helped. But after seeing this video I feel firm in my belief that he can recover and hopefully live a more normal life someday. Even if it isn’t with me.

I work in an acute psychiatric ward. I have also done a clinical psychology degree and masters. The reality is a lot different than what is taught in lectures and in books etc. I think you really have to see and work with people with complex conditions like schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder and personality disorders. It can be really really hard, especially when people are self-harming, head-banging, ligating, but it’s really lovely to help people, even if it’s just helping them get out of bed and to have a walk around the ward. Could talk all day about it! The stigma against mental illness is slowly decreasing, but I think the general public need to be educated on more than just Anxiety and Depression and there’s so many more mental illnesses out there that drastically affect people’s lives.

As a schizophrenic myself it was nice to see this. When I told my class I had schizophrenia during the mental health class one of my classmates actually called campus police on me and then I got investigated which just absolutely destroyed me. Everyone looked at me as a normal person but they all changed when I said what I had. I personally hear a voice very rarely saying my name in my ear or I’ll hear a flood of voices like I’m in a crowded room. Let me tell you, not flinching while talking to a teacher and you hear your name being shouted in rage right in your ear is hard. I see shadow people or just a normal person but they usually disappear as soon as I see them. For the ones that don’t, if I’m at home, I just curl up, close my eyes, and hug myself because seeing it sends intense panic through me even if it’s not scary. I tell people what i have and if they really care for me as a friend they’ll stay. I do D&D with my friends and one mentioned how my new character was like a schizophrenic since they have a spirt friend that no one else can see when they stopped when they realized what they said and tried to apologize to me. Now, THIS IS NOT THE SAME FOR EVERYONE, but I completely do not mind jokes and I even make them myself with my knowing friends. I told them it was all good and the group of us when back and forward making jokes regarding the topic. I personally like this because it shows me that people aren’t afraid or restricted for what they can say to me. We’re not psychos and killers like the tv makes us out to be, just people living as normal lives as they can day by day. Don’t be afraid and instead try to understand what kind of a package deal we are. That’s it for my rant. Stay safe and I love you all ❤️

Shortly after my sister turned 18 she had a mental breakdown/psychotic break which was around the same time my mother first had hers. Growing up we didn’t know about it, the family tried to keep it secret. We, being my siblings and I always knew mom was special/different but we didn’t learn why and how till not too long ago. My grandpa had electric shock therapy and no one talks about it and apparently all of my great aunts, grandpas sisters are on meds but again, no one talks about it. Mental health should definitely be normalized and talked about at a younger age because when my mom was hallucinating and I didn’t understand why she’d do the things she’d do, it was scary. When she she walked out in the middle of the street in broad daylight to look at the starfish in the sky, when she wouldn’t sleep for 3 days straight and think everyone was out to get her. When she’d talk to people that weren’t there... yeah it was scary. Thank you Anthony for this series and educating people (including myself) every week on these topics that no one wants to talk about.

I'm so sorry. my grandmother and my aunt have both schizophrenia, diagnosed many years ago. recently another cousin begins to show many symptoms despite not being diagnosed. I know how difficult it is for them and the family. we definitely need to educate ourselves more on this subject

I know what I'm about to say won't fix everything you have been through, but you are such a strong person to share this. The fact that you were worried about them just shows what a caring and understanding person you are. I don't mean to be rude but I hope you see someone to help your mental health, because mental health is important and I believe no matter how "happy" a person is they always have things they can benefit from that. I hope you know you are loved, by not just the people you know but Anthony, and all of us who are in this fandom. If you ever need anyone to talk to please know we are here, because you deserve so much joy. XOXO

My dad was diagnosed with schizophrenia and dillusional disorder when I was six, my life changed a lot. I’m 12 now and it’s just normal, we live with it, it’s not a big deal. We have our ways of dealing with it but I really appreciate it when people are respectful of it as well.

@Sequoiah Dreams Nah dude I'm pagan sure but I even went out and checked it out, nothing was really wrong and I even brought a knife incase it WAS a real person but no it was nothing, but I am pretty scarred and I do think like MAYBE it was a ghost because whenever I was walking out of my bathroom I turned off the lights and out of the corner of my eye I saw a black thing, kind of like the one before but it was behind me and I immediately stood in shocked for like 3 seconds then I slammed the door and just sat down hyperventilating so

@Sequoiah Dreams Schizophrenia is mixed with hallucinations and paranoia. Seeing things or hearing things you know for a fact aren't SUPPOSED to be there. The imagines you see can be extremely scary or intensely traumatic depending on how fainthearted you are. You get paranoid that everything or everyone is against you because of the things these scary imagines are telling you. Being a medium just means you see ghost that you can be classified as once living people, who came to you for help, with something they have unfinished business with, from their previous life. Being a medium is almost like a blessing, in disguise. While schizophrenia is just a bunch of jump scares waiting to haunt you. None of the hallucinations have meanings or a purpose like the ghost have for mediums.

@@AlyZzz69 Have you ever tripped or felt like you bumped into something that wasn’t there? I was walking into my room a few days ago and I saw this black rectangle object thing and I tripped over, but while falling to the ground the black rectangle thing disappeared. It was around the size of a soap bar, but completely black and had no shadow even under the lights that were turned on in my room. It’s starting to get annoying.

I cannot get enough of Anthony Padillas videos. It's so nice to watch an actual interview with people in all kinds of situations whether its mental health, an existential issue, or even like faceless KZbinrs instead of watching a tlc documentary on someone with skizophrenia where it's all hyped up and dramatized. This is fucking brilliant and we continue to require this.

So as a new CNA, i love seeing things like this. Its helps me understand from the people who can actually communicate as most of my patients cannot. I like hearing from people and understand more. I have had many incounters with both dementia and schizophrenia and i find it so intersting. Its something like i wanna make sure i understand.
