1 - the focus lie. Simply because we can’t focus on things that are boring us, does not mean we don’t have focus. We may be able to focus very well on things that do interest us. 2 - the lie of enough. The hedonic treadmill means that your baseline of happiness stays the same, regardless of accomplishments and things we pursue. Purpose is most important - find what you are drawn to and focus on it. 3 - the consumer lie. You will feel empty when you chase cheap sources of dopamine. The price of passively consuming is the person you could’ve become. 4 - the thinking lie. Don’t cherish your opinions. Our minds are chaos until we get clarity and a grip on our thinking process. One of the best ways to do this is through writing. The best thinkers he knows are writers. 5 - the lie of the exceptional. No one is special. Hard work and discipline and a whole lot of luck is needed. However, you can create your own luck.

I agree with these, but there's a lot of contradictions. 'create' luck contradicts the meaning of luck. If you do a thing, you did a thing. That's not luck. Hard work or effort isn't luck, luck is random by definition. So you say work hard AND still need luck. That implies the effort isn't enough to control all outcome, which is true. Luck is needed & it can't be controlled. If it can be controlled that's effort not luck.

I went to college, got a degree, got a career, worked hard, and retired early. I keep hearing about this route being a "lie," but it worked for me and seems to be working for young people following the same path. Just choose a career path with a future. I had severe ADHD, but meds kept it under control and was a huge help. I discovered Buddhist meditation in my 40s, and it completely cured all my symptoms - no more meds. Even now, I need either meds, or I can meditate regularly. Meditation is the biggest factor in achievement and progress I've ever seen.

PRECISELY SIR, I am glad there are many WOKE (no not that "WOKE") ppl nowadays. I meant to write "always question everything" but he already wrote it. Here is another thing. April the 1st - the fools day??? Why? Archeologists recently found some very old scripts (on archeological site near Belgrade called "Vinca civilization", some say its the oldest location discovered so far). There, amongst other, scientists concluded their month had 28 days and they had 13 months in a year. They celebrated New Year on 1st of April. However, we have been told that our european predecesors celebrated NY on 1st of January for centuries. Now, WHY would they celebrate that day (1st of Jan), when night is longest and day is shortest??? Whats the point? On the other hand, 1st of April is the day when nature awakens. Also, women has their periods each 28 days. Strange, right? Fools day? Hmmmm. Also, lies have been told to children so that they get used to beeing lied to later in life.

Just remember to verify what you believe. Especially scientific conspiracies and can best be reviewed with peered reviewed scientific literature that are duplicated from different countries. It escalates the bar so high. It removes intra-country conspiracies. Just as example, autism rates from Taiwan are very low, yet has the same or more aggressive vaccine schedule than USA. Critical thinking is extremely important even if scientific literature is too dense.

Unless you're willing to create your own art for free, everyone is stipulated into "the success" expectations of society. For example Mike Diana was being his own artist when he made Boiled Angel back in the early 90s and he was heavily at odds with many of the people at least in Florida. And nowadays you couldn't be an artist in that sense, at least unless you're willing to not get any money at all for it (it won't be sold). Now I understand that the artist you're speaking of wants to be a landscape artist, that's what he's comfortable with. And fine, I get it. But it's kind of beside the point. In the grand scheme of things people hold the cards on authoritarianism. The politicians in government, the companies, sure, they do authoritarian practices that are at odds with the will of the public. But it's only at odds with the will of the public because it's not the authoritarianism they wanted. There's very, very, very seldom anyone who's actually serious about believing in the Bill of Rights these days. The rest of em are NPC zombies engaged in their authoritarianism war, vying for which dystopia they feel is better.

The pharmaceutical industry does not want anyone healed. They make their money by keeping people perpetually sick (both physically and mentally), while assuring an endless supply of consumers to purchase their products. Not coincidentally, that the Greek word translated into English as "sorcery" in the New Testament is φαρμακεία (pharmakeia).

I think the best 'job' I had I felt like an imposter. It was the most challenging and the most fullfilling! I quit because I felt like I didn't know enough. I now see that it was probably the best thing I have done and really should go back to it. I think about it all the time, I talk about it and miss it, despite the 'defiicits' in my knowledge. I started watching this video thinking I would learn about lies of the 'world' as in global things.. and was very pleasantly surprised (or startled maybe) that the lies are things that we as individuals have adapted to. Like the focus lie. When my son was in first grade they tried to force me to medicate him and I refused. I refused the lie, and really had no idea that I was doing that. I am glad I did. I have always been a writer. Not of novels or anything, but of my feelings and thoughts, and lists... Lots of lists!! I know that the brain dump onto paper gets it out of my head so I can stop thinking about nonsense. But I have never tried to write in order to get focused on things that I needed to develop or 'organize' for a purpose. That writing has been very difficult. I see now that it is probably the most creative part of trying to develop ideas. That will be my next 'focus'. Thank you for this enlightening video and I am sharing it with the people in my social circle.

I decided to start looking around the room, i member seeing a bookshelf full of different books, and a bunch of other kids were crying... I thought it was really weird I had no idea what was wrong, I wondered why all these kids were crying for their parents, .. I knew babies would cry for their parents and I found it strange that these kids were doing the same... because their parents were going to come back . I tend to be very observant , I’m autistic , Although it can come with many frustrations and limiting traits it also has some fascinating ones Learning to accept limitations along with gifts is some thing I’m working on! Thanks so much for the thoughtful suggestions on improving focus. I really appreciate you highlighting the importance of designing our spaces and routines in ways that minimize distractions. That's such wise advice that I will definitely be implementing. I also found your point about how constantly seeking more doesn't lead to fulfillment very impactful. You're so right that true contentment stems from purpose and meaning, not material things. I aim to remind myself of that more often. Thank you as well for the perspective on how consumption alone cannot provide fulfillment - it must be created through meaningful acts of creation. I will strive to resist passive entertainment and instead spend time on activities that spark joy and nourish my soul. I appreciate you encouraging deeper thinking and writing as tools to organize thoughts. I have pages and pages of disorganized ideas that I've been meaning to synthesize. You've inspired me to make time to transfer those ideas to my computer and bring structure to them. Finally, your point about seeing leaders as flawed humans like ourselves really resonated. It's helpful to remember that success comes from perseverance, not innate exceptionalism. I used to put leaders on pedestals, but your words have encouraged me to have confidence in my own potential.

Don't let a label define you.
@lampyrisnoctiluca99047 ай бұрын
I agree. For too long I let my major depressive disorder diagnosis define me. Now I am no longer thinking of myself as a depressive. I may have a disease that is making my life harder than it would have been without it, but I am not my illness. People would have it hard to believe how much seeing yourself as someone who has something wrong with them is making your life harder. Much harder than it needs to be. I think that psychiatrists would need to speak with people about it more. My little nephew is having an autism diagnosis. As soon as he will be big enough to understand what I am talking about, I will be telling him not to mind being different, not fitting in or similar stuff. I will do my best to convince him he is good enough as he is and not to let the stupid labels define him. Believing in those labels defining you or having others believe in labels about you is dehumanising. If I would ever have kids, I will definitely teach them that labels on people = bad.

@AnthonyVicino Beyond the apex! Thanks for the video. The imposter syndrome is a thing for me because I’ve been struggling to know the “secret” to how someone can run an online store and make $20k a month…are they a genius? Am I up to their level or should I just quit? This video made me realize I need to keep working on what I believe I can do and with enough time and energy I will build up a system that works or I will learn all the things that don’t work. I had a thought a few years ago when I was really struggling… “The threshold for one to be uncomfortable is precisely the threshold for one’s growth.” I need to keep pushing my boundaries and get myself into a new environment where I understand nothing. Then when I perceive the world around me, I can absorb all the information that’s new to me and actually grow. Really appreciate you’re insight Anthony!

Beyond the Apex! I hope I am stupid enough to not give up on my current project because I think this could become a real success. But it is very difficult to not go into the thought spiral of what might change and go wrong and be stressful and so on, so not putting work into it seems to be far more rewarding, at least in the short term. And I was never diagnosed but labeled “problematic” throughout my school career and very likely have ADHD, but I really don’t care about this one. I can focus just fine, if I find the right thing to keep me engaged. So the trick is to make things interesting enough for me to keep going. Easier said than done…

Well, a few hours later I finally turned off the TV and got out some oil paint and started painting. And it suddenly occurred to me that I had totally wasted that first 3 hours of the experience staring at the television. Then I started to think, why do I have a TV in my bedroom. And how insidious that piece of technology is. It began in living rooms, then slowly worked its way into our most intimate spaces, where we are the most vulnerable. Then I thought about how the broadcasts were called programming... and that was it, I punted that TV right outta my bedroom and never looked back. I still don't watch television to this day.

First understand completely the situation. You described the life in a first world country. In a capitalistic system. Everything we do is a conbination of earning models. The goal of every earning model is 'added value' and 'margin' to make 'profit'. Your earning level relates to your position in these earning models: consumer, worker, manager, executive, shareholder. Like a pyramid. And accumulative wealth grows when your investments are in the shareholder part. So yes, 'flow' is a good description, but do your 'flow' in level 3 and 4 to achieve accumulative wealth. And consume with your mind, plan, do, act and control. Less or preferably no addictions, more investments in your personal development (house, representative clothing, good healthy food, minimal medication, frequent sports, cultural fun, long term preparations like pension). And above all, family is important, real friends, mental and fysical well-being. Whatever you do, answer the question in which earning model you operate at that moment? Act wisely, consciously, balanced and self centered. Carpe diem, and momento mori.

So there becomes a competition for the attention of others. For every person who needs to be heard there is some other trying to keep them quiet.

You would think that they more you have, the better off you'll be. The opposite tendency tends to hold: the more you have, the more you want; the very wanting that indefinitely defers real fulfilment.

I'll refrain from commenting until I finish the video. I do hope that he hits a few points. Already on number one. Same riddlin gave me nightmares bad, they transitioned to Adderall and the nightmares went away mostly. The teachers and parents were overwhelmed with the sheer volume of kids they needed to attempt to attend to. Public schools suffer from oversized class bodies. You and I needed either freedom to pursue subjects that we were interested in or the attention from a mentor to guide us and help us every step of the way. They just couldn't devote the time necessary for our needs.

Yes, thoughts on peace of mind are really the most poignant part of your video. I’m older than you. I’m pretty sure but I never really thought about putting my own piece of mind first and I was just taking on too much and getting so stressed out and so tiredthat I came close to having a nervous breakdown because I felt like I couldn’t let go of anything. I had to do it all and I have to tell you since I’ve made peace of mind for me my priority it has freed up a lot of room to do everything else but you don’t know that or know how much control you have over it until you are forced to face it. That should be the priority. That’s one lesson everyone should learn.

Another way of thinking about these “lies” is to recognize that they arise from linear thinking and reductionism. Your solutions all come from higher order thinking, systems thinking, holistic thought, thinking about thinking (meta) etc. Just my 2 cents. I think children are this way naturally, that is why systems such as the education system often blindside them in the way you described. Linear thinking and reductionism often arise from feelings of scarcity, desperation (it needs to be done now), inadequacy. Such thinking tools forever perpetuate and reinforce the systems that create the environment that in turn encourages them. The dragon of Ouroboros as a self perpetuating cycle.

ADHD has been on the rise since “marketing” and political theater were invented. We’re bombarded with messages & stimuli designed specifically to distract us. Even having to focus at school or work is a distraction from what’s really important in life, coz it’s easier to control us and make money off of us to do so. The concept (or more accurately the “problem”) of ADHD doesn’t really exist among homeschooling children. You pinpointed the biggest lie: consumerism. Our entire economy is based on consuming, more and more. A boom is when people have confidence to spend money and consume, a depression is when we spend less and save. I set up a foundation in Thailand, primarily for homeschooling families, but eventually for anyone wanting to live independently (without necessarily going completely off-grid and living like a Prepper). In the process, I’m developing a concept of an “enough” economy. I’m not sure how that will work exactly, but the idea is to work backwards from what would be “enough” for you in life, and then designing a life that simply maintains that with as little effort as possible - early retirement, if you will…

I wasn't told those things. I was told I had to go. Period. I found reasons to go myself, and I also had many reasons why I didn't go. *My having a high school diploma really saved my life from poverty for having it.* THE CHOICE OF WHAT I DID WITH IT MADE THE DIFFERENCE! *Without it, I'd be one of the homeless in a tent somewhere was a great possibility.*

Well, Anthony Vicino, first I say thanks for sharing your videos that in my eyes is brave, I could not make myself do that no matter what I tell myself, I did not go to kin garden non did I go see doctors non did I go to high school I never went to collage because I came from 1950's generation, I help my parents on a farm. I did not hear from outside my parents and siblings, So, I had zero expectation about life in general. I stay single never had children live simple yet enjoyable life got to see 22 state and Canada paid off everything my youngest brother stay with me. I see life very enjoyable love KZbin great to watch all types of videos. My dad said work pay for my way in life be kind people will be kind back. See people as gods of creation, love myself love everybody else and what I give in life returns to me. We are creators because the spirits that created us are creators so that why we feel like we need to be doing things making things. I do not know much about cave people never meant none. But regular people all love to feel good enjoy their existent and have something they love to do. That all I really know I think people are raise different so many people see life differently. Thanks, have great 2024 years.

I have adhd, and I agree with u sure. But also, I feel like your argument kinda invalidates adhd, making it seem “made up”, adhd doesn’t only affect focus, it affects other parts of my life so much more such as priorities, social life, impulses, adhd paralysis, and so much more
@AnthonyVicino10 ай бұрын
I would say priorities, social life, impulse control, and analysis paralysis all stem from a focus management problem. Not sure which part of my argument is invalidating ADHD in your mind, but I assure you that's not my intent.

We all have traits of ADHD. Hyper-focus is a trait. If I’m doing something I enjoy I pay no attention to what’s going on around me. It’s like when you see people looking at their phone whilst walking across a road and they are oblivious to the car that is about to hit them

Life is a lie sold to our grandparents grandparents. We're taught io divide our day in two. Half for work and half for ourselves. That if we work hard enough and earn enough that one day we can relax and enjoy what we worked for....its a lie. After my cancer diagnosis, I couldn't work, all my work colleagues turned their backs on me and SSDI rejected my first claim saying I didn't quit have enough terminal cancer but close. Learn to live for today. Tell people how you feel about them today. Plan on visiting things and put it in motion today.

It's just weird when my grandmother was alive I had purpose, a reason to live and I never had to dwell on problems etc. There was no time for it however my aunt and the rest of the family were the polar opposite and it's made me a mental case my depression that was suppressed when my grandmother was here is now worse than ever I almost had numerous nervous breakdowns in just the last five years I'm still working on myself gradually but I'm not saying I'm in a better place because I'm not but I'm working towards a better version of myself especially since I'm turning 40 this year
