Ironically enough, I do agree with a lot of what you say in the video (about focusing on your strengths, not following your passions etc) but I disagree with the overall message, which is not to start a business to be rich. While I am not yet a millionaire, skipping college and starting a business in my early twenties allowed me to make hundreds of thousands of dollars by the time I was 25 (in the pandemic nonetheless), and starting it and making it profitable wasn't as extremely difficult as you made it out to be, as it was more about planning ahead and being at the right place at the right time (which I made sure would happen by diversifying a lot). What matters more is starting a business in an area you're good at, and being consistent in your overall approach, whichever that may be. I simply managed to get good at speculating what would would work and what wouldn't after 3 failed business attempts in the span of 5 years before I got to the one that worked, and got very good at being patient.

And I'm saying this as a young successful business owner myself, there is plenty that can go wrong in the first year, let alone the first 3. Idk where you've been doing business or if you're trying to sell some course, but capitalism is ruthless and a dog eat dog game more often than not, far from easy

Another reason why we hear about those that lose everything and then back on top again is due to vivid-misweighing tendency; we simply remember better the stories of losing it and then rebounding. Great stories. The reality is they most likely learned how not to do it and so became more skilful the 2nd time. Another reality- if you lose it, chances are most of your 'social capital' will deem you too high risk to engage with, and correctly so.

There is one ethnicity that never lose, or they never allow one of their tribesman to lose, thanks to millenia old practice of tribalism and nepotism. Thats social capital and social privilidge they are born into and it never fails so if you cant achieve that merely by being born into one of these networks, then you have to have top notch catering to egosskills

I like the point of what you said about the true meaning of job, and I totally agree that it isn't about making money, is about acquiring skills, experience and slowly get better at it; and one day you may find some issues in the industry that you've been working on, that need to be tackled, and with the experience that you have, you will have a clear idea of where the business that you about to create, would go, and increase the chances of your business's sustainability. Plus, jobs also shows how you do your tasks even as small as sorting out some paperwork, from that you can learn more about yourself, and see how you can get better at it, and reduce the chances of making plenty of errors when you try to start your own business. Cuz, How you do little things, is how you do everything.

I flipped houses for a business (3 houses) didn't pay attention to taxes and fees till the last house. First page 13 grand gone to taxes and fees so I gave up after that. It was a good learning experience because I always learn the hard way.

Yeah, the taxes and fees can really be a swift kick in the nuts. But I would say you've paid that tuition, so keep going. You're unlikely to make the same mistake again, which only increases your likelihood of success overall.

He did say rich not wealthy. So do what you want with that but the only way the 99% can free themselves is opening a business and not slaving a job. The game monopoly came out the same time 1933 banking act was passed and forced Americans to turn their gold in for federal reserve notes. If you open a business you open yourself up to numerous tax loopholes that working a job won’t. The key is to pay as less taxes you can. 🔑

Well if 99% of people own a business, who'll be working? Similar to how a group of 30 people doesn't need 30 leaders, but instead 1 good leader, 100 people don't need 100 business owner, but 1 good one. The solution isn't that everyone owns a business and nobody works for other people anymore, everything is gonna be a 1 man show, which isn't very efficient. A better solution would be getting rid of the tax loopholes and holding the corrupt people as accountable as everyone else

Been looking into it and came to same conclusion ... depending on circumstances obviously. If you have a job you could try starting your own business on the side and grow it over a longer period of time. However if you do not have that luxury, starting a business takes too long to reach a point where it's profitable AND you can pay yourself a living wage - best buy an existing business. It's more expensive, but faster, and your living wage is already there. Up to you to then grow it, expand, or start something else on the side.

As a software developer, becoming a freelancer isn't that difficult. Freelancing is a business. And it encourages you to promote yourself and develop your social capital. You have the choice to scale and hire employees and freelancers or remain solo. I'd argue starting freelancing business as a software developer is easier than many other forms of businesses (including real estate) because lower capital requirements, you have more control, and you can focus mostly on things you already know. Save up your money and then put it into some ETFs, and then let the capital gains ans and dividends help your money grow. Once you've got too much money and looking for the next challenge, then consider buying real estate or some other private business.

Hundred percent. Freelancing to gain an additional income stream is a great idea. Then take that money and pour it into cash generating assets (like real estate) to really get the flywheel going.

I've done freelance software development. While it can generate income, it is not scalable. You are trading your time for money.

As your freelance business matures, you shift more and more towards business development and growing relationships with existing and new clients. It's always an option And like many businesses, things evolve. You can start having multiple revenue streams. Any profit you make can be reinvested or used to buy real estate, other private businesses, or put into securities that generate passive income.

Starting a business / being an entrepreneur is a good idea, you get a bird's eye view right from the start since you're the founder! It's tough work, so is working for the man..but at least you own everything, all the intellectual assets belong to you, rather than the company - instead of building up someone's else's business! Thank you for this video. I needed to hear this refreshing perspective on the value of doing work for other people. We get so many stories on needing to jump in blind and get rich by being an entrepreneur, that it started to affect me as well. Not having any business idea, but at the same time hearing all the time that you need to start one, causes me great anxiety often. This video has somewhat aleviated these concerns, and made me realise that I'm in no rush. No need to compare myself with others, and better focus on improving myself and my skillset. And I definitely need to step out of my comfort zone to build social capital as an introvert.

If your environment, family and friends aren't entrepreneurs or at least supportive, it's best to find strangers to be your customer/client as they could just be like what you said, always expecting things to be free. Separate business and your personal life. I went through the same thing as you, started a clothing line during high school with my friends and it went on pretty well but since we all have different vision and can't be on the same page, we part ways.

Loving this video man. I know this might sound selfish, but i want to see a video with your deeper perspective about college. I am currently going for Computer Science, but currently working as an IT technician for the school as a part time. My mother who is a professor at a university enjoys the video that you create, but she disagree with you on the college part. Then again she loves teaching so that is why she doesn't see anything wrong with college or university, but it would be interesting to see a deeper dive perspective about colleges / universities / education system video. I pushed and pushed for 15yrs working on two businesses that I started. 2021 came around and I just gave up and sold them off. They were making money but honestly it didn't justify the hours I was working, the taxes I was paying and the regulations that kept getting added each year. In hindsight I would have bought investment rental property outside of the US using a foreign created entity.

@@AnthonyVicino I actually sold my home in a suburb of Austin and used the profits to buy multiple rental homes outside the US. I took my own advice. Any profit gets rolled back into the company in the form of buying up more rentals. Lather, rinse and repeat. I went back to working in Data Engineering and soon I will be leaving the US to work abroad.

From experience (training to become an Occupational Therapist), passion is needed for motivation when things go wrong. You cannot succeed unless you have either passion or desire (which is helped by passion). The lessons from 'Think and Grow Rich' are the real deal - I experienced this myself BEFORE I ever read that book.

My question to you, if i major in business, perhaps anything that can get me involved in a job, will the skillsets from that job pay off? College can be a fine routeif you're learning specific skills. I don't think going to school to learn "business" is a good route, only because "business" isn't a singular skill. It's actually a whole lot of sub skills (marketing, leadership, product design, customer service, accounting, etc...). And in my experience, no business school teaches you the things you actually need to know t successfully run a business. Going to school is a great place to meet other people though. Love that idea.

Nice video, really well explained. Unlike you, I have more experience in technical areas, electrical and mechanical maintenance, civil construction, carpentry and also finance as a trader and investor. I spent the last year learning a new art at an air conditioning company where thanks to my maintenance knowledge I meet and interact with people who are outstanding and well off financially on a weekly basis. Well im really good at analyzing stats and protocol in every aspect of a business or situation of life, when I work, I often see thing that need to be change and could bring a lot of money because the solution would save a lot of time/effort etc etc.. My father is an Industrial Engineer and did pretty much that for a dozen of years, he was engaged by company and bring 8-12% more money at the end of his contract (about half a year in general) and I realize that I was really good at that too and really love doing it!! only problem is, I don't see where I could find a company that could bring me knowledge of that skill.. well every company can bring me that skill the only problem is a entrepreneur that is willing to not firing me because i open my mouth on something that i shouldn't, or i could grind the echelon of the Job and being promoted and after start doing greater change!! I will definitely try that. Its been since 2016 i work as a cook, I'm studying for being a fire fighter in 5 years i will end up being one if everything go well!! might be able to up that skill in the 5 years!! I like the way you reframe the way one should think about a job but unfortunately that doesn’t always shake out in reality. Your example for marketing sounds nice if you intend on creating your own agency a few years down the road, but a lack of formal education is going to be a huge barrier to growth for most companies in that sector, as unjustified or illogical as that may be.

It all depends on where you want to work. There are fantastic small marketing shops these days that only care about your work (not your school credentials). Find those and prove your merit. Doors will open.

Just rehashing to make sure I understand right. Find your talents, build them, get a job doing that thing you want to build. Next, you're explaining the value in learning all the levels in that business firsthand, with no risk (since you're earning a paycheck). Not only that, you get contacts on every floor in that industry (and maybe even potential investors.) By the time you buy someone else's business, you'll know exactly how it works and how to run it. You even know what makes a good employee and can hire better, too. And you're making money from day once since the business already exists. In buying instead of starting from scratch, you skip the hardest part, the startup. The only real hurdle is coming up with the money to buy it, but after that, you're set. This is my first time hearing this strategy and I'm an amateur in every sense, but I know gold when I see it. I hate working for people with great passion, But I never realized it could be more than just a paycheck. Thanks for the lightbulb moment!!! Subscribed.

I had two printshop owners offer to sell me their business because they liked my work and I brought them business, and I turned them down because I thought there was no way I could afford it. I would have definitely improved on them because they were older and didn’t know all the ways their business could be incorporated into a larger marketing business. I didn’t even think of owner financing.

Just for your information, if you are a good donkey for your boss, he will usually not replace you but try to keep you in the exact same position. Do never try to be the best employee for your boss. Highly disagree. When you increase your skill set and perfect your craft. Your employer is not going to want to waste your skills on meaningless task. They will want to utilize your skills to make the business more money. You’re either overvaluing your skill set or had externally shitty luck with employers. I quickly climbed the ranks for every company I’ve worked for. I’m the only common denominator. In 2015 I went from a warehouse worker making $11 an hour to becoming the director of operations making 6 futures. It took me 2 years to accomplish that. Perfect your craft and you will climb

My experience with the SBA in my small town 19 years ago. I had 10k in savings from working since 16. Had a large binder of plans for a family entertainment center that took growth, employees and security in mind. Basically the most research and work I had ever done for myself not someone else was in this binder. I needed a loan of 20k and this would have covered a year and a half of rent and employee salary with some miscellaneous expenses. The lady looked at me like a cow looks at an oncoming train. "We generally help start hair salons and tint shops here." Being 18 the bank was no help either. I'd like to say that I persevered and was able to get my business going. Instead I went to film school and I've never had that amount of money in my bank account ever since.😂

i find all of the videos of people starting a business and becoming a decamillionaire in a year or two a bit demoralizing. they make me feel like i'm wasting my time. but i don't think i'd be a good entrepreneur, and i've managed to grow my income a lot as a software engineer, and if i keep doing what i'm doing i could retire pretty well-off within ten years, or "rich" within 20. but that feels like a long time when i listen to a youtuber talk about making a million dollars per year.

I don't want to be rich. What I want is to not be destitute. What I want is to not fall off the horse. And you know what, I think that is fine. Maybe it's even a good thing, because if you can learn to be content with less in one domain, that leaves you with more energy to focus on other ones. Or so I'd like to believe, I don't know anything about anything, really. All of life is a compromise, and we all have different roles to play, after all. Good video! It didn't quite resonate with me, but there's a lot of stuff in it I liked. I do like and want _gardens_ in my life - things to tend, nurture, grow. That's where I'm coming from, and it'd be great to hear more in that vein.

Im one of those guys who dont know what their super power is. Im 57, about to start a seasonal job at UPS. On paper Im a total loser, like you cant get much less than me, but Im not dumb (I dont think I am anyway) I just dont believe in myself through lack of success anywhere to indicate otherwise. I've always believed the real value isn't in building the business, it's in building the entrepreneur.
