Citrullination is a method of post-translational modification in molecular biology...Modifying arginine into citrulline via deimination (not to be confused with deamination).
Rheumatoid factor (RF) is an IgM autoantibody against the Fc portion of IgG. "an antibody against an antibody".
Rheumatoid factor (RF) is present in 80% of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), which makes this test 80% sensitive.
Rheumatoid factor (RF) is not specific, because it can be seropositive in many diseases including rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), sjögren syndrome, interstitial pulmonary fibrosis, hepatitis B infection, essential mixed cryoglobulinemia, infective endocarditis (subacute bacterial endocarditis or SABE), tuberculosis, infectious mononucleosis (mono) and hematological malignancies...This, by definition, is non-specific.
Anti-neutrophilic cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) are IgG autoantibodies against the cytoplasm of the neutrophils and monocytes.
This is different from antinuclear antibodies (ANA) which are antibodies against the nucleus.
Anti-neutrophilic cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) have several patterns; the most important two being the cytoplasmic ANCA (c-ANCA) and the perinuclear ANCA (p-ANCA).
Anti-neutrophilic cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) are associated with vasculitis, such as granulomatosis with polyangiitis (Wegener granulomatosis), microscopic polyangiitis, eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (Churg-Strauss), rapidly-progressive glomerulonephritis (RPGN), anti-glomerular basement membrane antibodies (ant-GBM or Goodpasture's syndrome), as well as inflammatory bowel disease-associated. vasculitis.

It’s possible to have 2 autoimmune disease at the same time...Also, by the way, there is a disease called rhupus, which is an overlap between rheumatoid and lupus.

Very helpful for me. It helped me understand why I am being treated with CCP Antibodies IgG/IgA 30. I have other elevated antibodies related to liver and GI is doing nothing to treat it sigh! Trying to figure out my fatigue issue on top of it all.

My Anti ccp was 1.1 with a reference range of 0.0-2.9 My RF was 28 with a reference range 0-13. Also my alkaline phosphatase was a little high 116 reference range 40-112. So my anti ccp was positive but not high does that matter or just there mere fact it was detected in my blood is enough?

Hi. I had anti-ccp of over 300 but normal esr and normal CRP, no RF either. About to start hydroxychloraquine. Can you tell me if I can ever bring this anti ccp total down, make it lower or will it always be there now?

I've tested positive for this 5 times since 2019 and since then my joint pain has extended to more joints become more frequent and more intense. I have a bone spur in my right thumb and cartilage damage in my left big toe. Recently my knuckles are being affected. Also had elevated A/G ratios and HS-CRP. I am no longer responding to nsaids and I'm suicidal. Doctors said I haven't shown active inflammation in x-ray or the one mri I've done, plus I'm "too young" so they refuse to treat me. What do I do? I don't want to kill myself. The bursitis in my feet is so bad I can barely walk anymore when I have a flare.

Don't give up, I know it's hard. I'm 23, and I started experiencing joint pain, stiffness and inflammation 2 years ago - Had my RA Factor tested, came back as 54 iu/ml. Just had my Anti CCP tested, came back at just under 200 u/ml. My RA Factor has also increased to 84. My Vitamin D level is also abnormally low, despite being prescribed Vitamin D tablets for a month - It's still too low. Took my Doctors 6 months to figure out what was wrong as afaik, nobody else in my family is Arthritic, and since I'm "So young" they weren't considering Arthritis as a possibility. I had a flare up in my arm that lasted almost the entire month of December, it was pure agony.. I cried every day after work. I have an appointment with a specialist in a month, only took them 2 years, but I'm nearly there. Don't give up, you're stronger than you think..! Rest lots, I wish you the best. Hopefully your Doctor's can find something to help with the pain.

Citrullination is a normal physiologic process that occurs in many dying cells . The expression of citrullinated proteins is seen in various inflammatory states and during apoptosis. During inflammation , arginine amino acid residues can be enzymatically converted into citrulline residues through a diminution process carried out by peptidyl arginine-deiminase (PAD) enzyme ! If their shapes are significantly altered, the proteins may be seen as antigens by the immune system, thereby generating an immune response . Joints under normal states do not contain citrullinated proteins, whereas an array of different citrullinated proteins are present during various types of inflammation. The antibodies produced against citrulline are triggered when that non-protein forming amino acid is in a peptide chain or even a protein , BUT when it's in a single amino acid - urea cycle intermediate - form that will not trigger antibody formation !

Hello ma'am... My father is also having the same with Anti ccp of 200 which got rised to 500. ...he is having a ankle pain and inflammation unable to walk... The consulting doctor suggested a bunch of tablets including methotrexate, omnacortil, HCQS etc... He is not well then too... If you have find any medical remedies please comment..

My mother, who is 70 years old, suffers from episodes of swollen and stiff joints (sometimes neck, other times arms, shoulders or feet). These episodes last from a couple of days to a month, and occur several times a year without any previous symptoms. The problem started about three years ago. Repeated tests are all normal (RF, ESR, CRP, ANA), except for the anti -CCP which is always elevated (twice the limit value). X-rays are normal too. Which conditions could cause these results?

I had a debilitating neck injury that seemed to set off a systemic response where I started getting horrible pain in my feet and ankles and fingers. And recently was told it could be Psoriatic Arthritis which now I am starting to wonder if it is making the instability in my neck worse its a confusing diagnosis
