You where a nurse, I think, I found this channel during my OB rotation in nursing school (same time you started your fertility treatment). My research for school made me find you. I recommend a book called bed number 10. A patient is a coma was able to hear everything the nurses and physicians said about her and other patients. It’s a good book, I think you will like it

Hey Maggie. I left a comment on the social patient but thought I’d leave one here also! Maggie I am really wanting to tell my story and experiences but have no idea where to start. I am a member of letstalkibd. I have a very long story and after writing only about half of it down I had a hand cramp and realized how much I have gone through in the last 12 years since being hit by a drunk driver and having now had over 50 surgeries on my belly, hands, jaw, and neck. I am a nurse and my biggest health issue presently is a neurogenic bowel that produces an unfathomable amount of mucus, blood, and sorry, TMI, but literally have developed a skin tag growth of sorts down below over the last month or so. It is so uncomfortable and hurts to walk, sit, etc. I have had my diversion loop ileostomy since 12/2022. A year and a month later I have a huge peristomal hernia, having high output, watery, getting fluids and magnesium twice a week and have lost a ton of weight! I am having a proctocolectomy and hernia repair I n March. I am worried about the missing rectum possibly causing my bladder and vag*** to “flop” over. I have a prolapsed bladder and am hopeful the urologist will fix that at the same time as my colorectal surgery. I no longer have a uterus, so it will be pret-ty ( in your voice when you break up a word ❤) empty in there. Have your doctors or anyone else ever given you any advice on ways to avoid everything falling out of place inside when losing the colon and rectum? I would love to learn more from you. I am currently at the lowest weight I have been as an adult and feel so down. My doctor for some reason will not do my surgery any sooner than the last week in March. So I have trouble eating now that my hernia is pushing over onto my stomach and who knows what else. A CT also said there are several loops of small intestine caught in the hernia and it says stuff is stuck in those loops. I think that does nothing good and increases the watery output because thicker stuff has trouble passing through the hernia. Thank you again! You are helping me get through this and I see you as a friend even though I just watch you in a screen. 😁. So I rambled on there but again would love to start a channel but also wanted to share the large number of similarities we share. Bye for now! Cindy

Appreciate the update and glad you are feeling better. Love the snow despite the cold. Today was warmer at -10c and the windchill was warmer than -25c. It meant we had some ice forming. Stay warm and safe.

I have read that Jojo Myes book and loved it. It was really different to what I would usually go for. My daughter-in-law bought it for my birthday and her choices are always really good. I too am trying to read more this year and have just finished my second book so it’s going well so far. I love the snow too but we don’t get it here very often. We had a light flurry last week but didn’t last more than a couple of hours. We just get lots of rain ☹️. I still get excited at my age when I see snow xx

I use Florastor and that has actually helped me so much. I really like it a lot and it is yeast based so supposedly it won't be affected by antibiotics.

I hate driving in the snow, but I really hate having teenagers and young adults who now drive in the snow. My 17 yr old newly licensed driver has to drive home from work tonight, and roads are a sheet of ice. 😨

He has had many surgeries, and is going through a rough time right now. Someone like you would have been so helpful to him back then. You are very inspiring and informative.

I'm jealous of the snow. The best snow I ever seen was when I went to rochester new york to see my aunt. The snow had been on the ground for a really long time , and it was dirty and nasty. Me and my sister are from South Alabama. And we had a ball playing in that nasty snow. I am a half breed a southern yankee.

Hi Maggie! I came upon your channel, which I love by the way, while scrolling for info on ostomies due to my son’s NBD. His main issue is Tenesmus and I was thinking a stoma might finally alleviate his going on 3 years suffering and living in the bathroom. We have seen neuro, rehab and gastro Dr’s and my son has tried several different meds and pain meds, CBD products and pain relieving suppositories which unfortunately did nothing. I have researched all I could find about Tenesmus and have tried to find a support group for my son, but all info I have found ends with not much you can do sadly and I don’t want to accept that! This is my long story short way of asking if you know anything at all about Tenesmus and/or treatments? I am asking you because I have read that IBD sufferers may have this issue and thought you may have heard of it! Thank you for all you do on this wonderful channel to help people with all of these gastric pains in the butt….pun intended. Thank you so much, Tracy

You look absolutely lovely in your video! This may not work with your insurance, but are you able to use pharmacies out of state? I live in Baltimore, and there are two that I can recommend to you. (I actually worked at one of them as their pharmacy manager for a bit). I would be more than happy to give you the info.

​@LetsTalkIBD hey Maggie..I saw you comment about the probiotic you take. You didn't notice a difference? My doctor's office just recommended me to take a probiotic. I said, "it won't affect my peppermint capsules 50mg 2x a day the Gastroenterologist told me to take for IBS?" She looked into it and she said that taking the peppermint with the probiotics would be even more beneficial for me. It will make it much better, more effective etc. Just thought I'd mention it, ask your people too and give it a try if they say yes.

My 8 yo was just diagnosed with crohns, she also has bone lesions & aseptic abscesses in her feet & spleen I think was triggered by antibiotics but idk. She was hospitalized with to be osteomyelitis in her foot, but antibiotics messed her up & made symptoms worse. GI Dr said she never had a patient with these manifestations 😢 Have you heard of these crohns manifestations when you were a nurse?

Have you ever tried thrift books? I gwt soo many good used books from 4 to 9 bucks. I actually buy from several different used sites. I'm going for my compete record surgery on February 12. I have a j pouch. 4 fistulas. My ti y piece of colon is too long its been 9 years so I'm going from Indiana to North Carolina to get it redone and the colon piece removed. Ill have another bag for a year ugh. Last time it was horrible

I’d love to know the name of the enzymes you were recommended. I have had SIBO in the past and have been having more issues again. I see my GI dr next week. It was a NP who finally recommended getting tested for that after YEARS of symptoms. I was so grateful to her! She moved out of state so is no longer with the practice so I’m nervous. Hopefully he will listen to me :/

This isn't to slow output but more so to control SIBO! I would definitely ask your doctor prior to starting - if you have anything like acid reflux, it can make it worse!

Not quite - it's a form of acid similar to stomach acid that helps to break down the food!

They thought I had crohns for so long and it wasn’t well I tested positive for it but only just and the professor said visceral mylopathy acts the same it causes mucus and that’s why I got the positive my bladder is also bad visceral mylopathy is genetic and I worry for my youngest child who’s 7 she has the same bladder as me the symptoms the only difference I pee too much hers she doenst notice it’s full so bad it was huge on a scan and the lady said you need to pee that must be uncomfortable and she was like I didn’t need a wee I really hope I haven’t passed visceral mylopathy to her as my other 5 don’t have bladder or bowel issues 😢

See? I knew you were probably aware of probiotics. Sorry for nagging unnecessarily. I hope your stoma quits being annoying. I have a theory about meds from pharmacies that deal with insurance companies. I am waiting for my asthma meds. I have enough for a week or two but it has been two weeks since I ordered it. I called and the recording says it's in progress. If I don't get answers next week when it will have been 3 weeks since I put in my order I will start talking to live pharmacists or my insurance customer service. This is my preventer and I need it! My theory is that if they delay long enough you will go elsewhere and pay full price. It's all about not giving a darn. I feel your pain!

Hi Maggie; I KNOW, this is going to sound like a man with a paper a.hole; but please hear me out: if you’re not getting your prescriptions filled in a timely manner, it sounds like someone at either the doctor’s office ,the pharmacy, or the insurance company is playing fast and loose with your prescriptions. If I were you I’d start at the local level and head up the food chain filling complaints even if it means going to corporate; until you get some answers

I enjoy the white peach Liquid IV. My kidney doctor said I wasn’t to drink it because of the high sodium. 🥲. Now I have to find a way to stay hydrated. Have a great and safe trip.

Liquid IV looks like it is mostly sodium and vitamins. I am actually confused why everyone says liquid iv is filled with electrolytes. Ultima is low sodium and has electrolytes. Keeps my heart beating...literally I get dangerously low potassium and magnesium.
