Current situation
Effective R, greater than 1 in 27 states
Effective R is less than 1 in most of the midwest
Estimated, 22% have been infected as of January 11
US population, 328 million
Therefore number of infections = 72,160,000
Factor of 3 more
Therefore IFR = 0.48%
CFR = 1,67%
Trends
Deaths, 567,000 by May 1
This represents 192,000 additional deaths from January 11 to May 1
Likely peak at the beginning of February
Daily deaths will peak at 3,680 on February 1, 2021
Steady decline after the peak
Reaching below 500 a day sometime in April
Factors, seasonality and the scale-up of vaccination
By May 1, some states may be close to herd immunity
If more transmissible variants spread in the US in the coming weeks
Peak could be delayed by weeks
Death toll substantially increased
Hospitals in many states will be under severe stress in the next four weeks
To reduce deaths, masks, some social distancing mandates, rapid scale-up of vaccination
Drivers and prevention
Mobility continues to decline, 33% lower than the pre-COVID-19 baseline
Visits to restaurants and department stores up substantially from the weeks prior.
As of January 11, 76% of people always wore a mask when leaving their home

We expect, 141 to 179 million people will be vaccinated by May 1
Projections
By May 1, 2021, we project that 37,800 to 51,100 lives will be saved by the vaccine rollout
Compared to a no-vaccine scenario

Had my pfizer first jab today after a text message early this morning. I'm 57 and CEV. Been a virtual prisoner 11 months. Like you John I saw this coming a year ago and took precautions. Hundreds were queueing in Chesterfield Derbyshire UK today. I Expect a more rapid rollout now and I'm over the moon and relieved to have had one. Keep up the great work .

My husband of 79 in a nursing home for 5 years with Alzheimer’s had a temp. on 10th January. He tested positive for Covid. My son visited. He has had Covid in early March without a swab taken. In September, still suffering with a headache, he tested negative for antibodies, his symptoms were all the known Covid symptoms. He stayed with his father on and off over the weekend during many aspirations of fluid from my husband’s lungs until he died early Monday morning. Tuesday, my son ran a temp. which he was expecting as he only wore a mask, whilst GPs were completely covered with PPE. The swab he had taken on Wednesday was Negative. I think the temp. was due to his immune response and he has been well now for 6/7 days.

We will still be here next year at this time, unfortunately. According to recent scientific tests in the south african variant, has revealed that only about half the blood tested from individuals infected with that virus against the vaccination antibodies were actually immune from it. Info came out yesterday. So, the more mutations like the one in Brazil which is even more resistant, the current vaccines will not work and need to be reformulated.

Keep in mind that global population at time of 1918 pandemic was only about 2 Billion so the ratio of deaths then was much higher per capita than today (global population today is near 8 Billion) Albeit, we’re not done with this pandemic yet. Let’s hope we don’t reach the same ratio as 1918’s pandemic

Last spring I did a quick and dirty calculation that adjusted for population, COVID fatalities would need to be around 2,300,000 or 2,400,000 in the US to equal what the Spanish Flu did. Not a scientific analysis per say. Like you said, just find the ratio in US population and multiply out. That would be a staggering number of deaths.

@Will Thomson I hear you mate, if I could help you in your quest, I definitely would. We have an esteemed Professor (Thomas Borody) here who finally, with the help of a big wig media guy, convinced the Health Minister to allow the use of Ivermectin in the Victorian nursing homes when Victoria had an outbreak 5 months ago, thanks to the virus escaping from quarantine. But nothing was said about it. It's like nobody knows about it. It's a massive secret. I'm going to write to a respected & unbiased (if there's such a thing) news program here & see if they run the story & interview Professor Borody, who incidentally works close to where I live & I was a patient of his 20 years ago, he cured my digestive problem. It takes 10 months to see him now. I like your methods, if I was there, I would be your partner in crime. As Prf Borody said, any doctor/country not using Ivermectin need to go back to medical school & Governments not using Ivermectin are complicit in the covid deaths. It's crazy UNLESS.... you buy into the theory that is circulating...i.e, they want to thin the population, "survival of the fittest'...

@Will Thomson Wow that's awesome mate, if you are (you never stop being one) an epidemiologist, then you sure as hell know what you are talking about! I think John is wary about pushing any drug, he wants to stay neutral. Many people take his advice & he wouldn't want to be responsible for someone taking Ivermectin & then blaming him if things went wrong & I understand his stance on that, but it would be nice if he covered the topic more. I'm really glad your village is doing well, but as you say, there are other types of suffering, which is unnecessary given there is a prophylactic, going on. People's livelihoods are collapsing 😔. I'm starting to believe the conspiracy theorists OR pharmaceutical companies own the world, so it has to be a cure that comes from them & them only...🤔 They have to stay rich you know...

I can pass on the preventions/ early treatments which I have gathered from drs successfully treating covid to anyone ..posted on my Facebook page. I am currently in Spain but passing information on may help save lives, as it seems in UK ..probably most countries, there are very few suggestions as to how to treat yourself in the early stages or how to prevent it.

@@NathanW5555 You have no idea what you're even talking about. Of _course_ you can tell the difference between different segments of RNA by sequencing them. So you take your RNA that you've sequenced, compare it to your control which is the HGP, and see if it's there or not. Not there? Then it's viral. ; Man... you kids who failed out of high school biology really should understand the limitations of your knowledge.

My wife and I made our way across COVID-19 infections. Thankfully, both of us went through with minor flu symptoms like runny nose, mild cough, aches in joints and back. We had a lot of sleep and gallons of tea and water during recovery, as strongly advised by our general practitioner. In addition, we ventilated the house frequently and slept in seperate rooms to keep the viral load as low as possible. Local health authorities here in Hesse, Germany, quarantined us for 14 days post detection of SARS-CoV2, our neighbours bring us food and whatever else we need. Exceptional symptoms for me are a rather nasty fatigue - I sleep for days, somtimes there still is an imperative and sudden urge for sleep - and a complete anosmia that developed within an hour, as often described for COVID-19. Both is said to usually recover well over a rather short period of time, though.

Dr Scott Gottlieb recently stated on a CNBC interview that he expected vaccinations in the US to top out at about 90 million people. There’s even a substantial percentage of healthcare workers here who are reluctant to take the vaccine, which I’ve read is as high as 40% (article on Bloomberg). Such is the state of science education here. It’s like living in the Middle Ages.
