I can't help but think of this lecture series whenever I see Christmas decorations or go into a store during the holidays. Very rarely do I see any reference to nativity of Jesus Christ or to Jesus Christ Himself. And this lack of Christ has sneaked its way into society so easily, it's no shock that people will be ready to accept antichrist in the end of days.

​@philb7417 I think time is the confusing factor. Right now we are in space and time in a way God isn't. From our perspective, trapped in time and space, free will can seem like predestination. If that makes any sense at all.

I'm confused; "antichristos" means "instead of Christ" in Greek, and that's how St John the Evangelist used it in 2 of his letters: anything you worship instead of Christ. So I reckon you're saying this particular antichristos is a human, right?

Absolutely. There is a final antichrist. There are many antichrists, according to the apostle John. Tune in next Tuesday night, we’re going to examine it from some passages in scripture.

I am puzzled by the phrase 'of Jewish descent and govern the Jewish nation'. What is the Jewish nation? There is no such thing. There is the secular state of Israel, but that is not the Jewish nation, and for many Orthodox Jews (and Christians) it is a blasphemy at worst to call it such, and at best simply anti-scripture. Those identifying as Jewish are so diverse in beliefs and so geographically dispersed that they can not be a nation (united by faith or by territory). Does the phrase I have highlighted mean 'identifies as Jewish and governs a nation which he claims is a Jewish nation' ?

Maybe we can interpret this as christians being the jewish nation (the chosen people after Christ) and Israel being the biggest part of the "church" (which ofc will not be THE church) which will worship the Antichrist (ecumenism may play a role here)?

What is the Orthodox take on the idea that the AC will come from Islam/Ishmaelites? I've seen a few recent analyses that depict the parallels between the AC as described in Scripture and the Mahdi/Muslim Messiah as described in Islam. The similarities are pretty uncanny. Mind you, these are Protestant takes so not the most reliable but still interesting to consider.
