Censorship is completely against the ethos of metal. True metalheads know and will always know what metal is really about, and the attempts by the likes of antifa to sanitize black metal of all things is laughable at best. It seems to me like these sorts of things make headlines, some lames cry about it, but the beating heart of metal just keeps going on. As long as there's one of us left, they will never truly win. I went to Steelfest last year and it was a breath of fresh air to be somewhere that completely rejects PC culture in metal.

Graveland is only labeled NS because the band members have NS beliefs. But these beliefs are almost never expressed in their music and they mostly keep it to themselves, so basically there's not even a problem here in regards to Graveland.

Interestingly enough, PC culture has also now become synonymous with "cancel culture". Both are typically associated as being left-oriented but "CC" has traditionally been more of right dominated area. For a good portion of the 20th century, groups with right-leaning ideals and values sought out to stifle artistic creativity. In the 50's they went after comic books. In the 80's it was television shows, horror movies, and of course heavy metal.

Good vid. But I kinda wanna clear up what I said in my video. I wasn't saying that something like this is deserved. I was saying that, if you want to be a band that says controversial shit, then I'm not going to feel sorry for you if you get protested or your show gets shut down. You're basically asking for this to happen. I'm not saying that anyone deserves to be threatened with violence or actually hurt, though. These guys doing this are behaving like terrorists and deserve to be treated as such. I come from a background of rallies and protests. And I was even into direct action for a while. But harming people isn't the way. It's a stupid band writing stupid songs about stupid shit. That's not worth innocent people getting hurt all because they happen to enjoy their music. Protests are fine. Threats are not.

Obviously no one should be being literally physically attacked for their music taste. Antifa isn't a centralized movement, there is no leader or anything of the sort. More of a philosophy. Obviously the individuals labeling themselves as Antifa here were stupid and in the wrong. A more interesting question is when does this speech blur the line between just words and an act of violence. If people are literally pushing for policy to remove people from countries they've lived their entire lives just because of their nationality or race for example, then what recourse should the potential victims of this take?

First look at a lot of the grindcore which talks about far left politics so black metal isnt the ownly metal genre to attract extreme ideology. I agree with you all the way. Regarding what you said about Nokturnal Mortum's statement, I kind of have the gut feeling that they only said that to keep their shows from being picketed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but a few years back, Satanic Warmaster, Absurd, Kroda, and Nokturnal Mortum were all being targeted by these Antifa-types, and it was causing too many of their shows to get cancelled. I'm speculating here, but it seems like they only denounced their "previous" views to avoid the heat.

Graveland absolutely IS NSBM - not only obvious from album covers, song titles, lyrics, but also the pictures of the band giving Nazi salutes, and quotes from Rob Darken disavowing Satanism because "in the Third Reich, Satanists would have ended up in the gas chambers". Yes, I agree that the NSBM-association is often made incorrectly and to the detriment of bands who don't deserve it, but you made the wrong call on this one.
