4 ай бұрын

It's been years since I've seen this place, and it's still an antique vintage mecca! We're in the tiny town of Smiths Grove, Kentucky, where most of the 1910s buildings now host antique and vintage collectors from all over. Is it still everything I remember?
A new generation of resellers in freshly converted shops are making this a fun place to find vintage clothing, MCM furnishings and even sports cards, offering everything from Italian chairs and Spanish faience ware to signed jerseys and balls! We miss out on a great 1970s Sheesham screen, but the VitaMix for $15 in working order might just make up for it. We poke our head into closeout sale at an old storage/shop space that's too full to see through, then head on to the town's main anchor store.
Main Street Antique Center is still the town's antique anchor, the shop I remember from my visit long ago. Really finely carved and inlaid 19th and 20th century furniture holds displays of Gone with the Wind lamps and Moon-and-Stars pieces, but it's the extensive display of great Bradley and Hubbard cast iron and brass ware from the late 19th & early 20th century that rival the best we've seen anywhere.
What a fun and shop this is! Mezzanines hold quaint quilts and a great 1950s western chenille, along with great deals on 1950s cookie jars, children's furniture (even a horn chair) and a fine Fenton lamp, while the newly opened basement gives us a chance for a therapeutic rest on a great MCM daybed. Vibrant vintage advertising, a collection of salt dips, old card decks and a fun array of other antique and vintage smalls remind us why this mall is such a great stop-and how it's keeping this tiny burg a big destination for serious collectors.

Kinda interesting you pointed out the checkered Vans !!!! I watched the Berners bro. Episode last night of the whole staff wearing checkered accessories to be like Kate from follow that bug . And I keep thinking of the Vans hat I bought a couple yrs ago for 2 dol that's got the checkered pattern. It just looked very well made. I've never gotten around to handwashing it. And if you haven't watched that episode you gotta go check it out !! Hilarious they did a after hours glow hunt in the heart antique mall . And he took Kate to visit Mrs Pat and did the Christmas tour of her house.

Happy New Year, George! I'm catching this one a bit late...been a busy day. I liked that European hutch, with the bowed ends on it. There was an old hand-crank pencil sharpener, at 1:30, that I wouldn't mind having. There was an Adirondack picture frame, at 1:52, that would've had to come with me. There were so many old books there, I would've been occupied for hours 😅 Was that an old spelter statuette, at 3:01? That was interesting. I'd have a ball rummaging through that place. I have several Mae West cigarette cards, and two or three Jenny Lind. I could see myself using that old blender. I liked that. The yellow epergne, at 17:16, was really pretty. I've not seen many, at all, in yellow. At $75.00...yep, it would've come home with me. There looked like a Flow Blue fish platter, at 19:53, that really caught my attention. The chess set, at 21:09, was interesting. Wonder if it had all of the pieces... I have a thing with old chess sets. Loved the cast iron match holders! I have a B & H monkey, like the one at 23:05, but mine is a bank. Mine looks _much_ better than that one did. I really like the old B & H pieces. They made some fantastic oil lamps that I seriously like. That W. C. Fields statue looked like an Esco one. I finally found a lamp to go with my Mae West lamp, but I have no idea who made it. Those were really nice places to shop! Thanks for the take-along!
