I think it's cool that you have so many running examples of old machinery. From back in the days when simplicity ruled. Yet, when they were built, they were all state of the art machines.

My Dad also restored a Witte in the 80s, it ran on Petrol and when it was warmed up it could run on TVO/Parrafin, he's one had the Felling attachment and blades so it could cut the tree down and then you could process the timber. Great old machine.

Always love these old drag saws! They seem to be very popular in youtube. I have a video of a couple here on my channel and out of nowhere got about 2k views

@@cruddycornstalks Are they expensive, or can these smaller hit and miss engines be bought for a reasonable amount of money(whatever a reasonable amount is)? Back in the heyday of these engines, was there a guide that told you which size engine you needed for whichever tasks you were planning on using them for? I see a lot of videos of these old engines, but I've still never seen or heard anyone say which size engine you needed for each particular type of job. You'd think that would be important to know, and therefore you'd think that it would be mentioned by the "experts" in some of these KZbin channels that specialize in old engines....

Dad had a big 1cyl gray from a navy launch all thick enameled solid dual flywheel 2 stroke , after yrs looking at it , I drove my tramp wagon ( after harvest) to start it. Rigged a tiny fuel tank mixed up a small batch of high test fuel and rolled her over. She popped well so I tapped some doorsteps under the ends of her skids and wound her up, across the barber shop lot and off the sidewalk into the street. The old cop watching the fun come out n over to grab on to the good time we had spooling up and after a couple last gasps and a good cough she all dragging me n Russell and the old cop to a final stop straddling the yellow line. Grand time had by all, Pop laughs best from inside with a victim in his barber chair whooping it up in there. She was a ragged bitch to drag in but pop made me take it to the farm, Hmmff!

Kudo's to your Dad for a successful restoration. Do you still crank it up occasionally or for that matter do you actually use it for wood cutting? (Not that a chain saw would be more practical)
@cruddycornstalks5 жыл бұрын
we havent used it to cut wood for about 15 years do to it being a lot more of a paint and hassle to get out running set up and then tapes 3X as long to cut a log then a chainsaw. we heat with wood so we try and get done as fast as possible. i wanted to use it last year to get some cutting action in the video but sadly couldnt get it out in time before we where all done with the wood. maybe in a year or two.

@@cruddycornstalks Using it to saw logs may not be as efficient as using a modern chainsaw, but I guarantee you that some of the old-school hit & miss powered log SPLITTERS are faster than the modern, portable hydraulic ram type splitters! Look up videos on hit and miss log splitters, and you'll see several different "styles" and designs of old splitters, some of which aren't great designs. But there are some designs that are quick!
