As an L1 English speaker, I'm more interested in why they're confusing to learners. It's never easy to spot what's hard about one's own tongue!

Learn and study age a little confusing, as in some languages, there is just one verb, like in Russian учить

@@AntoniaRomaker Very interesting! So in Russian, the nature of the learning is implied with the context it is used in? (For example in English to use 'learn' for both I would have to say 'from a book/coursework' to imply full-blown study, like "I'm learning from coursework about this topic")

In Russian учить(ся) can be both to study and to learn, and учить can also be to teach ;)
