These kids are raised by a stern, but fair and principled father. Yet they repeatedly show them showing nastiness at inappropriate times in inappropriate places. It's one of the few things in this series that do not ring true. The other is Nathan's friendship with Paul, an obvious sociopath.

Valerie- Maybe you aren’t American and don’t know US history. It’s the Democrats that were responsible for this ugliness not the GOP. At this time (late 50s), the president is Eisenhower (Republican/GOP) who signed various executive orders to integrate Southern schools, sending the army to enforce this. Learn history and not regurgitate what some dumb late night comedian tells you to think. Despite history telling us who the evil doers are the media has convinced you otherwise.

Valerie DeMello+ I think you know US history just fine. You are right. This was an ugly period in American history, but the civil rights movement made it a hopeful one. Yes, during the 19th century and the early part of the 20th century, it was the southern Democratic Party that supported segregation and all of the ugliness associated with it. But during the civil rights movement in the mid-to late 20th century, there was a real change in the position of the parties. In the 1960s, it was Democratic politicians that supported The Voting Rights Act and other civil rights laws. Republicans became the party that upheld the racism and xenophobia that we see prevalent in a significant part of the GOP base today. President Eisenhower would not recognize the Republican Part of today, and would likely have nothing to do with it. Your sentiments are a generalization, yes, but the point is well taken.
