I think the water radiator in the front is not big enough because battery inlet temperature is increasing. Also the cooling of the battery is not the best as the hottest cell is 16 degres hotter than the battery inlet temperature. Cooling is not sufficient with the performance model on track even with no regen
@taipoxinАй бұрын
Agreed. And I think if they sold a higher priced more hardcore version they could sell them easily. Better cooling, bigger brakes, 800v, even more bolstered seats, maybe a bit lighter and some other bits or optional add ons (like a bigger wing for example) and they'd have a real winner.
@BlazeFirereignАй бұрын
It's a consequence of sticking with a 400V platform and the same thermal management as the standard car. But a beefier cooling setup would not only take up more space and add cost and weight, it would also have a significant aero impact, reducing efficiency and making it worse as a daily. We can see the impact of that cooling if we look at the weight and efficiency of the 5N. It's a great track car, but that means more compromise on its daily usability. That's not a problem for some people, but it is for others. The 3P is a great daily driver. We'd all love to see it have better track endurance, but the cooling is absolutely fine for spirited road driving in the vast majority of cases - and that's the main priority for most buyers. I'd love to see a track pack or a hardcore track variant, but I doubt it'll happen - it would be very low volume, and Tesla tries to avoid having niche sellers, and they'd completely cripple the 3P's sales if the track improvements were the default (raising the price and making it worse as a daily).
@taipoxinАй бұрын
@@BlazeFirereign "but it is for others" is ironic because people don't buy the Performance model if they're looking for efficiency / range. If you want a good daily that also has plenty of power, the dual motor 3 is more than capable (and I own one myself). Even that aside, If they innovate with the battery and add lightness elsewhere (as I mentioned already) - the decrease in efficiency would be minimal. If they continue to improve 4680 cells, that will already make up for losses and solid states cells aren't far off either. And I don't understand your point that a higher priced 3P would cripple base 3P sales. What is your logic here? If it cripples 3P sales, then it's the better selling... and easily higher margin car. The industry as a whole already offers more niche but costlier versions successfully. Tesla could easily do the same with a streamlined production line where the changes are not difficult to implement on the line.
@BlazeFirereignАй бұрын
@@taipoxin No, they don't buy it because it's *efficient* - but they buy it because it's a great daily that's a lot of fun to thread down a country road, without significant compromise on daily usability. It's *not* targeting the weekend track car audience. And that's fine. Speaking from experience - yes, the Long Range is more than fast enough, but it feels completely different to the Performance in the Highland generation because of the suspension and chassis changes. The Highland P is a completely different beast when it comes to having fun around the bends. And you've misread or misinterpreted what I said about a track-focused P. If other track improvements were *the default,* it would bump up the price and make the car worse to drive as a daily - and yes, that would cripple sales. If it were *an option,* or a higher spec, it needs to sell in enough volume for Tesla to care. You suggest that changes would be easy to implement. Yes, they could easily make something like a carbon brake kit available. Better *cooling?* That's a very different proposition, because the car's entire cooling (and heating) circuit is based around the heat pump. It's not just a case of sticking an extra radiator in the frunk space, a lot of kit would need to be swapped out. Tesla aren't going to design, manufacture, and stock those parts if they're not putting them in many cars.
@taipoxinАй бұрын
@@BlazeFirereign I never suggested that track improvements should be the default, so I guess that's why I don't follow. All I suggested was a more hardcore version, which would have a further upgraded suspension that the regular P Does Not (meaning it is different), along with the other stuff I mentioned. The Model S is not high volume and the Plaid even less so, and the track pack even further less so. But they still sell it. The model 3 sells several orders of magnitude more than the S so to me, it would be logical... based on volume... for them to care to give the 3 such a treatment. That is where the more niche product should be sold, if anything - as I believe it would easily outsell the more niche offerings of with the S.

99% of the keyboard warriors here trashing the Tesla never went, and never will go, to the Nürburgring. If they did, and tried to drive at a pace remotely close even to Misha’s “fast, but not full send pace”, they would crash after a couple of corners. People are completely missing the point, and the comparisons with the Ioniq 5N are just ridiculous: the Ioniq 5N is not only much expensive (and heavier) than the M3P- it was also built exactly to be a track cool, developed in the Nürburgring, etc.. The M3P was not. Despite that, it has superb handling, and only the original brakes and cooling limit its capability to cope with such a demanding track as the Nürburgring - and that’s normal, because contrary to the Ioniq 5N, IT WAS NOT BUILT FOR THAT. The M3P is PERFECT for what it was built for: an all-rounder with great performance, great handling, perfectly capable of dealing with a twisty road and mild track use, all this while looking great (which is clearly not the case of the Ioniq 5N, which IMO is horrendous) and being a very comfortable and capable family car. Perhaps you should only think of a brake upgrade if you are going to push much more than the average user - for example, if you do track days and want to do more than 2 or 3 laps of your local track (which is, for sure, much smaller and less demanding than the Nürburgring). The Ioniq 5N might be a great engineering achievement, most capable electric car for track use, etc., but IMO, it’s a product that makes much less sense than the M3P. I wouldn’t certainly pay € 20k more than what I paid for my M3P to have a Ioniq 5N (also because IMO the car is very, very ugly). If someone is buying a “track tool”, and particularly one for the Nürburgring, I honestly can’t understand why they will spend that amount of money on a Ioniq 5N, instead of buying a 2nd hand proper sports car with combustion engine. The list of “more capable machines than a Ioniq 5N” within that price range (2nd hand) is almost endless.

Most people will arrive at the Ring, supercharge the car, and want to drive immediately. The battery will still be over 50°C, thus reaching the thermal limit even faster. And after one round, although you have enough range to complete at least two more laps, the power is dropping with SoC. Therefore, you want to charge again, and the superchargers are about 3 km away from the entrance to the Nürburgring. (You will eventually charge as high as possible to have maximum power, but the last 10% take like 20 minutes, so you probably skip it). I've done this, it's fun as a tourist driver. The 5N uses the best battery cells, and the battery pack design that matches it, the optimal cooling system, the only motor that cools the inside of the motor, and the highly efficient dual-stage inverter system are all completely different systems from other electric cars. If you look at only the core components, they are much more expensive, but the car is cheaper in comparison. If Porsche, Tesla, and Lotus used these parts, would they be able to make it at this price? And the 5N has been out for over a year. A more advanced follow-up Ioniq series is also being prepared, and a more hardcore Genesis Magma series is also scheduled to be released. What is needed? @Maarten_vd2 ай бұрын
Not a lot of money, as the M3P is already way cheaper (15k) than the 5N.. Take that into consideration. The main (and only) problem is the heat management. Its obveous Tesla build the car on efficiency as its way more efficient than the 5N during normal driving. This is good for most drivers, but bad for people that track their car a lot. This cooling capacity is not easily fixed as an owner. So summarized, model3 is more efficicent and cheaper. The 5N is more track capable as it already has good enough brakes and proper cooling. Make no mistake tough, the 5N is a heavy boy, 400kg heavier than the Model 3. 400kg is insane.

@@Maarten_vd In Germany the difference is around 10k € inbetween those 2 cars. These 10k wouldn't update the M3P to the performance potential of the Ioniq 5 N. And to be honest, the comparison ist also a bit off. The 5 N is a Model Y competitor but there is not Performance version of the Y that is even close to the 5 N so that's why all the comparisons come up. The efficency difference is also part of that if you look at the dimensions of th 5N and the M3P. The M3P is fine, it's just not worth the Performance name IMO. It's more like an S-line in Audi terms then en RS.

@@Maarten_vd Exactly - for hard spirited driving stock cooling and brakes are more than fine. Even for track, if it´s not Nürburgring - many people track those in "normal" tracks (2,5-4km of length, not kilometers of straight) here in Finland too, with no problems (it´s always a good idea to change better brake pads and brake fluid for tracking in road cars). Here the price difference between M3P and 5N is ~20k€ (60k€ vs 80k€) - 5N is a fantastic car, handles nice and is capable on track - however it´s efficiency is very poor, summer consumption in 80km/h limited road is easily 80% more than with Model 3 (yes, both driven in same queue, ~150km leg). M3P consumption was 140Wh/km, 5N 250Wh/km.

Let’s address 1st thing 1st. In USA, the all new 24 M3P in certain specs qualifies for full $7500 tax credit rebate. Which makes the M3P about $15k appx cheaper than Ionic 5N. With the extra $15k you can easily upgrade to track brake kit/ fluids, Cup 2R tires, tune to exploit batteries, and even get track suspension upgrade. The car is bang for the buck! However, with that said I think Tesla should offer a track pkg from factory as an option that should include active boost for 5 sec of extra hp/tq, cup 2R tires, lighter wheels, bigger brake kit, better battery cooling, more track focused suspension, and better downforce in terms of larger spoilers/splitters etc.
