Hi Gareth, I'm a total Tetley devotee. I've tried pretty much every other brand, luxury and supermarket own brands, but none have ever compared to the lovely, deeply rich and malty taste of Tetley. With tea, you do tend to get what you pay for. Tetley is well worth an extra quid, just for the terrific taste ;)

I used to really like Tetley tea once, then I tried Yorkshire and it's been no contest ever since. So I can't really compare Asda teabags to Tetley, but on the other hand if you only have 31p in your purse, it's good to know these are OK! And often it's a case of leaving the bag to 'brew' for a bit longer, to help the taste along.

If you can, try the ALDI top of the range teabags. Here in Ireland they are called "McGrath's Fair Trade Reserve Tea" & comes in a black box of 80 teabags for €1.39. It has won two awards. In the Uk it may have a different name but is probably the same tea in a similar black box! It is a fabulous tea and is every bit the equal of the top of the range teabags from the big manufacturers that cost 3 times the price.

I've always preferred decent quality loose tea in a proper teapot because that's the tea I grew up drinking. I do have teabags in the house because my daughter prefers a bag in a cup (she leaves it in). Each to their own. I realised a while ago that a lot of tea bags contain plastic & don't break down in the compost heap. PG Tips bags do though so I get those in for her. I think more brands are switching away from polymer teabags but I think PG were the first big brand that did. I wouldn't say I'm minted these days but even in my skintest days there were some things I didn't skimp on because it made me feel poorer. Tea is one of the things I always paid a bit more for and got decent quality. I save money elsewhere.

When I was living frugally before my pension started, I drank Tesco own brand tea. Then I moved to Aldi's brand in the red packet, but now I only drink Yorkshire tea. But the Just Essentials tea is good enough if one is on a budget. The Tetley, though, is going to have better quality tea in the bags. That's where the nice colour comes from.

years ago l was told it was condys crystals that colored the tea, but whether its true?
@garyl51282 жыл бұрын
I did a similar test a few years ago, comparing the then 'smart price' tea to my usual brew, but did it less scientifically (got the colours of the two teas roughly the same as the 'equaliser', so 'brew' time in the cup was different and did some squeezing of the tea bags while in the cup), and found the SP tea to be stronger with a bit of a bitter tang that felt like it was coating your mouth more. They're fine as 'emergency back up' but like you, I still preferred the alternative. As price goes though, they're not a bad tea and with some trial and error can probably make a nicer cuppa. Keep up the comparisons, I'm really enjoying them!

I used to pay £2.49 for 240 Tetley tea bags, price has gone up now and last week I paid £2.99 for 240 bags at Tesco, so that still works out at only 1.25 pence per tea bag of delicious Tetley tea, cant complain at that and NO WAY worth even considering any tasteless budget economy brands ! I can’t get any of these brands in my country, but I just want to say your accent is very nice and clear to understand. What part of Uk is your accent ? Nice video 👍

my favourite tea is Twinnigs tea pyramid English breakfast they are expensive :( but sometimes the supermarkets do the discounts but even so they are still expensive £3 discounted usally around £5-£6 but they are really diffrent you can tell thier diffrent by just looking at the cup it goes orangy red its very high quality tea :) perfect for a breakfast morning and i find it gives me more of a energy boost than other brands i occasionaly buy sainsburys red label too (saves money) but i do love a good twinnigs tea again its always THE PRYAMID ENGLISH BREAKFAST

We like Asda Essentials tea bags but for over a month now they have dissapeared from the shelves and still not come back. Any idea Gareth where they have gone ? Thanks Helen.

Buy PG Tips for my Husband. I don't drink tea. Like coffee make my own blend Nescaf'e with Lidl's Bellarom Gold Blend. Put 50/50 in a jar mix it up and voilà . Coffee that's not bland nor bitter.☕

Milk in after tea bag removal and squeeze. That fat in the milk will otherwise be drawn to bag perforations and clogg up.

you are getting 25% more tea with tetley but paying 3 times the price, putting in 2 tea bags of the asda would have still worked out cheaper, but would it taste better than the other

I have bought the white label stuff for years, not because I have to but because I'm a miser lol, but I have to say I draw the line at tea bags. Not had the really cheap ones for a while - they might have improved - but I find that if you leave them in for long enough to get stronger (and stir/squeeze the bag etc) they become actively unpleasant, with a really coarse taste that's like eating soil or something. I've settled on the "posh" Aldi/Lidl stuff, you can get stuff like Earl Grey or English Breakfast tea for 90p for 50 and these, while still cheaper than Tetley I prefer,and you can alternate the flavours so you don't get bored with one type.

Great review! Bottom line is no tea or cheap tea, cheap is better than none.
