Who knew you could make money as a “go-go” dancer?
Subscribe: / abcnewsindepth
In 1966, Denise Drysdale earned as much as $400 a week as a go-go performer.
Today, that is more than $5,300.
This year marks Four Corners’ 60th anniversary.
In August 1961, we made our debut on Australian TV with a staff of just six and a weekly budget of £480.
Copies of the program were flown around the country for broadcast.
Today, Four Corners is Australia’s longest-running current affairs program and a powerhouse of investigative journalism.
Our award-winning program has amassed 62 Walkley awards, seven of them the coveted Gold, as well as 23 Logie awards.

I sang with a BIG BAND and in a small space at the end of the stage there was a Go-Go girl dancing away to the Band playing and me singing. . At that particular point we had a Male singer and he began dating the Go-Go dancer. After a few weeks of them going together the GoGo got a bit bold and tried dancing on the floor in front of the stage. It was really busy, she was swaying, hips gyrating, and a young guy asked her for a dance. Next thing I knew the Male singer dived from the stage into a group of dancing patrons. His girlfriend had been dancing with one of them in his full view. What a kerfuffle! I recall he was fired instantly, and no contract ever renewed for any other Male singer. The Band leader thought we could all go on without one. They had me,. GoGo dancer was finished, she never got paid anyway, she just volunteered. 4/5 years I sang there The Cavendish Ballroom had a sprung floor, and it was very popular. I sang at weekends, and through the week I sang a lot of standards for the Ballroom crowd. I loved it all.

Of course for the non Aussies commenting here who have no idea what they're talking about . . . They need to know that *Denise Drysdale* went on to have a career in entertainment for decades (currently working aged 72 on TV Morning Show), and is a *True Aussie Legend.*

If people could bang on their keyboards and keep their heads screwed on it'd be a different story. If you have so much to say about what matters to you, start a channel, create content, or do something that matters like actual real life activism. Comments don't matter.

I doubt you could dance vigorously for a few hours straight to music you didn't prepare for. But anyways, kinda comparing apples to oranges here because a dancer can't expect to get a high paying gig every day. I'm sure only the pretty in demand ones can expect to do it for a living reliably.
