Great video! I was switching up my linkage and the spring fell out without me getting a chance to see where it hooked up. Your video cleared it up for me and was able to mount it up again. Thanks!

Any chance you’ve got a video just like this for a 1968 c4? Had parking pawl issues so had to replace the assembly, not I can’t get it to shift so want to make sure it’s assembled correctly before installing it back in the car. Best video I’ve found so far so thanks for this!

Part number is not that casting number thats an engineering number part numbers have usually look like DS7Z-17D957-ACP with a pre middle and end that is a bumber cover number though.

@@patrickcooper558 I will have to look through my stuff and see if I can find out where I ordered it. I was able to find it, I want to say from a small shop in Michigan that had to ship it. I will look into it.

@patrickcooper558 Hey Patrick. I have asked around and talked to the guy who ordered it. And we cannot remember where we got it. I will keep looking but I'm almost sure it was shipped in from a small shop on Michigan. I don't know if it's something they carry or just a lucky fluke. I'll let you know if I can find anything about it.

Hello, I have a question on my Zephyr aod transmission but it leaks oil from the TV part, what can be done in that case?
@saneauto Жыл бұрын
Hello Victor great name. The Throttle Valve seal is the easiest to replace. when I remove the nut and take the arm off (outside the transmission) there is a seal right there to replace. Just be careful not to push the threaded rod down in there the other end will drop behind the tip of the throttle valve and get trapped. If that happens the pan has to come of to reach in there and put it back correctly. The other danger is while reinstalling the arm and nut if you over tighten the nut or tighten without holding the arm you can damage the other end of the TV rod inside the transmission. Replacing that becomes a whole lot bigger project. Finding a replacement is difficult and expensive.

i have a bronco.its a 90 model some thing weird goes on where the shift lever moves back and forth.it doesnt go into park and creeps forward when idling. i thought the shift lever was broken loose,but after i have taken it apart and out.i dont think that whats wrong.i was wondering if the rooster comb worn out or something else. ive never messed with transmissions very much but that wont stop me from trying.i wanted to fix so i can go sink it in the mud someplace. oh also the lever still moves with the column shifter in park and the key shut off i tbought i would pick your brain since you know more than me thanks
@saneauto7 жыл бұрын
Youll need the Bronco on a jack or safely jacked up so you can turn the rear driveshaft. My first step in diagnosing a "wont hold in park" problem is to disconnect the rod or cable on the arm just outside the transmission. This way you can narrow down weather the problem is in the trans or the vehicle part of the linkage. With the vehicle linkage disconnected grab the arm at the transmission and pull it as far to park as you can. Turn the driveshaft to see if it locks up in park. If you get park this way its the cars linkage. If you cant get park You gotta go deeper in the trans.

So, hypothetically, if I wanted to swap the AOD out of my truck and go with a later model 4RW70, I can just install the AOD shift lever into the 4RW70 to maintain the right geometry in the rest of the truck's linkage, as long as I plug the hole in the middle where the TV rod would go, as it would be unneeded, correct?
@williamblanks85002 жыл бұрын
newer models use computers they dont use tv pressure to control the transmission

what parts would i need to make an AOD work with a column shift 79 zephyr 302/351 windsor? would i need all the parts from an 80-83 LTD AOD/302 since its similar to a fox?
@saneauto4 жыл бұрын
That would be a good start make sure you use the AOD flywheel and driveshaft yolk. Heres a shifter linkage that will make the swap a lot easier. amzn.to/379dBvw
@KingJT804 жыл бұрын
@@saneauto yeah i talked to them since you posted this. in their picture the other end that attaches to the column looks like my C4 attachment except they have just that one rod and mine has several different bent rods. i wonder if i could take it all off and just use the cable and attach their cable to the part that comes off my column? yes i will be using aftermarket stuff but it will have to be a 28 oz flywheel that works with AODs. they makes them SFI or not. ill have to figure out which one EDIT: ididit told me i have to have a certain amount of column sticking out of the firewall to use theirs which is meant for an AOD swap but its a cable and not a rod. the rod would have to be several pieces since its not a straight line to my steering column and i may just have a driveshaft made but try to avoid it if i can but i dnt think i can unless there's an interchange for the car with an AOD

Is it possible to over tighten the internal nut on the tv linkage rod? I took an rotated my shift lever 180 degrees so that it faces down so it will work with my shifter. When I put everything back together, the TV cable arm on the outside of the case is very tight. It does not move as freely as it should. How tight should that big nut be on the inside?
@saneauto7 жыл бұрын
You need to pull the pan and check to see if the TV arm got between the valve body and the tip of the Throttle valve. 4:20 in the video

saneauto after I watched your video, that's what I think may have happened. One other question. My aod is an older one, like 82 or 83. If I get a newer 4r70w to use the internals, will the input shaft work too or will it have to be a specially ordered part? An if you go that route, and need to rebuild it which rebuild kit do you use the AOD kit or 4r70w kit?
@saneauto7 жыл бұрын
kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2e2YX1-mbhqobc This is my AOD with a 4R70W planet set. I will eventually have to make a video showing how to do this. You wont be using the 4R70W input shaft. There is a lot more to the conversion than that. Like I said this will require its own video to explain. I did use an AOD kit.

I found a guy selling a 98 4r70w for 50 bucks, he said it makes noises in 1st and 2nd gear. Would it be worth 50 for the parts? He said it was still working fine other than the noises.

The guys that designed these things had to be aliens,i have rebuilt motors,rear ends,front ends, you name it but when it comes to these things i thread very carefully and only take off the minimum i have to to finish a repair, ill translate "im scared to death of automatic transmissions", ha ha ha ha I have to replace my seals on my linkage on my AOD so thank you for this video very much, i did have a question,whats the best way to pull the bigger seal (case seal) out without the proper tool? can it be carefully pried/popped out with a screwdriver being very careful not to scratch the surface?
@saneauto4 жыл бұрын
Right, transmissions are the most unforgiving things to work with other than women. ;-) Yes your correct a nice wide flat blade screwdriver with some care will pop it right out. Tech tip clean the hole with scotchbright and a paper towel. then install the new seal dry.

@@saneauto Thank you much for the reply,i also forgot to ask, did AOD's not come with a pan magnet? i replaced my pan a few years ago with a pan that had a drain plug and i didn't see a magnet, i also saw a video of a guy on KZbin awhile back doing some work on one and i also didn't see a magnet,seems to me it would be a good idea or is there a reason for it not being there? the women quote was hilarious but so true,id rather work on transmissions,lol
