I watched this game on stream and honestly, as much as I love diplo games, I think this map would make a lot more sense without diplo. It would force the player into two different 1vs1 early on and then, once their square is secure, it would encourage the strongest players to get rid of all the walls as fast as possible to take advantage of other people fighting. It would be non-stop action instead of almost everyone turtling with only one or two players actually doing stuff. I mean without Vaurion, this game would have been pretty boring.

Hi purple here, I think diplo works well. Remember this is a community game with low-mid elo players. With higher elo players this would be a bloodbath.

@@Szehkzee Yeah works well for you cause you won. Otherwise, for the viewers, the only reason that anything at all happened in the first 45 minutes of this game is that Vaurion was being Vaurion. Most players are not Vaurion. If we just wanted people to build up for 45 minutes before anything happens, we might as well make a forest nothing game instead. And yes, it would be a bloodbath. That's kind of the point.

I think the same thing. I would remake the map so that the walls drop in a square when three of the four kings in that square are dead. That way, hopefully, you have four players left with one king left each at the end. Unfortunately, I know nothing about creating or editing scenarios.

I just found this channel and I find it very entertaining. I'm 63 years old and I play aoe 2HD , no expansions, once in a while. It's taken me several years to hit 500 hrs or so. I usually play against 6 ai civs teamed against me. I actually find it relaxing. I've never played against another person. I'm confident I could never beat anyone, but I'm enjoying watching these, and learning alot. Good stuff, keep it up.

what? you overestimate others, you may win consistently if you play on some maps like black forest. it gives a lot of time and fighting in one chokepoint is much easier than having to fight all over the map, so it kind of negates higher skill advantage. If you can play against 6 ai civs you definitely can win against players too

This mode can be improved by no diplo: 1. All cages have only 2 players inside 2. There's a large cage for every 2 small cages (4 players in this level) 3. After killing the opponent in the same cage, proceed to next level by putting the relic in specific area (clearing the wall) Like keep advancing to win the 1st place

I think there should be a mode, where whenever you kill a king your population-cap is increased - that way passive/allyall players get punished and more people will go for snipes.

That is actually a pretty good idea, not only would it encourage more aggression, but also it would incentivize people to band together to beat the "big bad guy" so he doesn't become unstoppable. I like your idea very much, good job!

Big problem with that is if it's a pre-emptive match where everyone knows that's the mode they'll be fighting with, there will prolly be more fixed alliances pre-match.

I think elo should be awarded for king kills and taken away if you didn't manage to kill anyone. If you don't manage a kill but win, I think the Elo should stay where it is. That way, if you play passively, you have an incentive to at least kill one king. You still have bragging rights of winning if you don't, although you wouldn't improve overall.

Crazy game, I figured that the moment green disconnected it was game over for red, since that was his common ally in both squares. He was facing down a possible 2v1 from purple and teal (common allies in both their squares) as well as yellow and blue, again common allies in their own squares. The fact that orange and grey were the first to get turned on by an aggressive Vaurion was a surprise, as well as the early game backstab on red followed by the double backstab on yellow by blue.

I have a question about the convo around 1:05:00 'ish. would it not be better for saly to keep the cavalier and get as much damage out of them as possible while queueing gen-xbows behind, that way he isn't throwing away resources? I mean sure the cav might not be that great vs frank, but they will still do damage and delay while the big wave of gen-xbows show up.

If the cav aren't going to give much value and you're looking down the barrel of a 3v1, you want to take out as much enemy army as you can as quickly as possible if you're going to have any chance of staying afloat. Instead, he just gave his enemies time to sync up and consolidate on him. Keeping the cav would only help if the matchup vs. Franks paladins wasn't so weak and the map is close enough to running out of res that you'll actually be alive to regret throwing that value away. As T90 often points out about trebs, trickling in units is much weaker than engaging en masse

Yes, as long as you have enough production buildings to keep yourself pop-locked during a battle. It may mean building pikemen or more cavalry if you don't have castles, but that's fine because you can see how the G-bows disappeared when surrounded by paladins at 1:11:17. In fact, G-bows only win with 26% health remaining against paladins with equal resources: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJTSoYKbZtWEiMk With equal numbers, the G-bows would just lose to paladins. (Obviously it's different if you you spend 30 wood on palisade walls.)

But I think it would be necessary to stop allies being able to delete those buildings.

I think this kind of match would be super cool if you had to eliminate your neighbor to open up a wall in the middle where the resources/trees are now. Then, once you've conquered the square the next set of walls opens up. Maybe keep the 90min rule but given all the resources, it would be pretty silly for other players not to try and conquer their squares quickly

I don't blame orange for being scared to play in these games, the new players are ALWAYS ganged up on in these games unfortunately. Realistically, you should go for the strongest score opponents first in these games if you are trying to win. I can't even count how many times I've seen players go for the bottom score and then lose later on because they allowed the best players to boom in peace. Hilariously, these players watch these community games every week, you'd think they'd learn.

I think the pit could be altered to a villager sacrfice pit, where you can, sacrfice 30 vilalgers, and are given a 20x20 explosive cart, with a countdown and can deliver it anywhere. THe place to sac is random, but the downside is the cart spawns where your Starting TC location is or nearest coods. Every time you sac villagers it doubles in cost until it caps out at 180 village cost. 20/40/80/160. lol Explosive wagon.

How about each quartile of the map had all 8 players, separated by a row of 2 trees, with a King of the Hill monument in the middle of each one that is surrounded by rings of berries, wood, gold, and stone. Once someone captures the monument, the walls disappear, but they have to harvest thru all four resources to get to it.

t90 you say no player can fight off 3 armies that size but just yesterday i got stuck in a 1v4 cause my team rage quit instantly and i held off with 120 mangudai against hordes of cataphracts from byz, cav arch from mongols, elephants from persian, aand knights from franks each army had 60 and sent multiple as well as trying to raid my eco until they finally sent their armies to their death to eventually finish me. I also had no trade profit the entire game cause it was Michi and they cut through instantly before trade had really started. i knew i was dead but killing the horde after horde was too fun and the mongol player even gave up after awhile and surrendered.
