Resign here essentially means give up. So he wanted to give up and you didn't let him, so now he'll fight to the death. Then you chose to give up. So that counts as a defeat for you.

It's just him acting clueless. As a non native speaker, where English is the 3rd language to learn by priority, the linguistics are pretty damn obvious. Resign is to give up. Pretty sure it was the same in aoe3. Definitely had the let resign option, pretty sure you lost if then you yourself resigned after denying.

I prefer how Total War does it. Once you win the battle you can accept that outcome or continue to fight on and mop up the fleeing army. At that point even if you get bored before completely wiping out every unit your option to "concede defeat" turns into "end the battle", or something to that effect, and you still get the win.

I played it already, it is terrible imo. Visually terrain and structures look great. Sadly the units have terrible animations to "free animations pack" level. And the models look like a mobile phone compared to the crisp and good looking terrain

It's as good as AoE 2 DE. Which also means it has the same basic flaw as AoE 2 DE - buggy pathfinding. Which I fully expect to remain a problem even long after its release. But if you're used to that in DE and still like it, it's great. :D

Another way to "artificially" push the game towards the late-game/age 4 level would be to set up a big map with 2-4 AI opponents and a treaty time, takes the edge off early raid pressure and allows you to jump into the action already at age 3 or 4

One thing I'd really like to see is an analysis of what the different myth units are good at. I've always had a hard time picking between, e.g., Cyclopes and Minotaurs, with nothing more to go on than "good against human soldiers" for both.

its a complicated answer. Remember, you dont just pick the unit, you also pick a god power and unique technologies in the package deal; sometimes, a less powerful myth unit ends up choser because the god offers other things that you want; a big exemple is Bragi, who's unit is good but unremarkable next to something like frost giants, but his god power is reason enough to pick him a LOT). For the unit themselves, gotta look at stats, unique abilties, and costs (both in ressource type and amount). For the two you mentioned, cyclopses are far beefier and have better damage (in a pure 1v1 no classical age unit in the game can beat a cyclops), plus they can deal with buildings well since part of the damage they deal is crush damage, but minotaurs are far more spammable (costing less favor and food, especially once upgraded) and they have AoE damage that the cyclops lack

all the stats on every unit is available in the game itself now, so you can see precisely how much hack vs crush vs pierce damage and armour and speed each unit has, but you are right if there's any bonus damage (is that even a thing in AoM?) that info isn't available.

So in the original game, cyclops special could one shot a single human unit- making it a great counter against high cost, tanky human units like elephant riders. Minotaurs are cheaper and can disrupt/stun human units with their special, making them better at meat fights. I think they removed the cyclops one shot in retold however.

in the past minotaurs has been better vs myth units and had faster attack speed , but cyclops had not only some damage and knockback but a "slow so" insta Kill ... and that part stilll is true ... much more building damage. Both units are pretty strong ... its more about the additional benefits and the god powers. Playing defensively you probably wanna have minotaurs ... if you want to destroy buildings early and stil does not have access to siege otherwise go for cyclops ... aside of that the army updates that come with cyclops are nice

Barring specialised exceptions such as scarabs (who are living battering rams), all myth units are cost effective against all human soldiers and bad against heroes. Larger melee units tend to be less good against humans because they deal part crush damage. Crush damage is good vs buildings, siege, and ships but bad against humans (who have 99% armour). It's the big difference that I like about AoM- you don't need to micro to avoid siege weapons.

21:10 - in AoE2 range and LOS are measured in grid cells, which are, i believe, 2 meters wide. In AoM and AoE3, they are meters.

My favourite way of playing AoM was always a massive FFA/2v2v2v.. on big maps to allow for big armies and myth units fights, unlike AoE lategame fights AoM just hits diffrent with unique myth units and god powers when it comes to lategame

A super good feature is that you can set the AI Difficulty for each player. AOE2 could adopt this aswell. This way you can do 2v2 practice without the AI on your side just destroying the other two.

Every time I see AoM content it strikes me how similar to AoE3 it looks and feels lol. I understand the gameplay is different as 4 cultures with 3-4 major gods each, and myth units and god powers, are very different to 20+ civilizations using decks. But the graphics, choosing a bonus on every age up, each culture having its own tech tree, it's just so similar to AoE3. Which makes me wonder if AoE3 would have been better received if it was called something different, or if AoM only got so popular because of the cool factor of having gods and myth units lol.

That summoned boar might be a bit too powerful when you destroy the enemy's town centre, quickly replace it with one of your own and summon that boar right in the enemy camp in the mythic age. With a lot of infantry that town centre can go up very fast after all.

The option of a treaty mode would do wonders for allowing games to last long enough until you actually get to use titans and wonders. It also would saturate any players base building interests of the game on top of a post age 4 fight by the time of a long treaty ending.

There is no hunting wolves anymore. I have the feeling that now deer and chicken for example have the same pick rate too, so now there is more "quality" food near tc, which makes the game better in my opinion. Helps with raids and building your economy before having to search for more food.

Aegr is a minor god I wish more major gods had access to. Being able to have a mini healing fountain anywhere you wish by building a fort is damn useful (even if the healing is much slower than the actual fountain, only 1 health per second, its the availability of it that's great, and is the first healing option norse get out of the classical age minor god choices, and can give the norse healing if heimdall or Ullr get picked)

I'm curious when retold gets fully released well each of the pantheons have one additional new god since the Norse get Freyr If not well maybe we get them over time through major updates and maybe some DLC packs I don't know I guess we'll just have to wait and see

According to the Steam page, at the present time there are plans to do at least two future content packs, one will be a Chinese pantheon (presumably a rework of the Chinese DLC for Extended Edition) and then a second content pack that is a bit more vague but it will be "additional" gods for the existing pantheons, so hopefully they'll end up with at least 4 gods for all 5 civilization pantheons (once Chinese are included)... but I don't know if those "future content packs" will be separate paid DLC or free updates to the base game, I guess we'll see how they implement that eventually

They fult gimmicky and forced in the Extended Edition, not even counting how many players stopped at the Titans expansion and exclusively played with its most well known bug. I get that the Chinese have just as much mithology in their culture as any of the other races but their units just feel forced. most people loved AoM because they got to play with the myth creatures and gods they learnt about in elementary school. All in all I won't just leave the game because they included the Chinese in it but I wouldn't say it improves the game but I am down to be proven wrong.

I think he's more confused as to why the AI asks to resign to begin with and he probably at glance assumed that the resign button gave the AI permission to resign, but the button does exactly the same thing as any other AoE game.

AOM was great game 20 years ago but it failed on many balance fronts. it was suppose replace Age of Empire 2 but it is poor balance and gameplay mechanic made flop. Now it is actually improving itself into something that makes a lot more sense. this is one of those common sense changes.

I hope they still bring in the Chinese civ and their gods to the mythology as I have enjoyed playing the Chinese civ in the tales of dragon DLC beyond that I think the devs have the potential to dive even deeper into exploring more mythology civs including but not limited to Aztecs and Roman’s as both civs have connections to the mythology world and would be keen to see what the devs could make them to as for example the Aztec’s you would have to sacrifice units to gods to gain favour

Hmm new God for Norse, but not the other civs? Interesting. I wonder if the Greeks, Egypt and Atlanteans will get a 4th God on launch. Also Female berserk, that's new.

Freyr listed as a specific god pack in the full version of the game. With no mention of other god packs, I don't think they will on launch.

Game seems fun as ever, although TBH it’s hard to see where the new graphical fidelity is. It’s not the main draw, to be sure, but is it strange to think AoE2:DE is the better looking of the two?

I played 9 hours yesterday. It's the same as it was with Ao2:DE. You will get comfortable with it and than it's better than before.
