I’m surprised that you haven’t learnt to speak Thai yet . On my longest trip back in 2014 I went to school for one month , I did four hours each week , and I learnt quite a lot only reason why I didn’t continue the lessons is I was going home . You have a Thai partner that could teach you you would pick it up in no time . The difficult part is understanding Low tone , middle and high . A friend of mine who I won’t mention has been going to school now for five years and is fluent in the language he’s also started to read and write . Interesting video about the Abbotts . Kevin Nice montage of your Sunday trips with family the music heading into the farm reminded me of Jim Croce’s guitar style. That we talked about last week. As for Pooks reference to the musical and mentioning heaven have a look at this oldie but goodie perhaps this was what she was referring to Top Hat the 1935 film featuring music and lyrics by Irving Berlin.

Hey Sam...Just seen this after replying to your comment on TIF page. Have been listening to Jim Croce since you reminded me of him last week. Thanks for that. You know...it's funny that Pook often refers to old English films and songs. She picked up on these when she was working with the elderly in the care home back in the UK. Often breaks into an old WW2 song Her favourite is "Run Rabbit Run Rabbit Run Run Run. 😄

Could you give me a Top 5 reasons you choose to Live in udon Thani instead of other places in Thailand?
@TheIsaanFarang3 жыл бұрын
The first and most important reason is that Pook's family live here and we wanted to be close to them. Great up and coming city although we live just 10 minutes from the centre and it feels as though we are in a village. Fascinating mix of westerners here which I only discovered once I moved here. Beautiful community neighbours who help each other out. Close to the airport so that it is easy for Pook and I to travel. A lot more thing that I have left out but I need to get on and answer more comments 😄

love it! superstar Papa is my hero...puts me to shame! ok, rubber trees....the latex fills the cups and is usually collected very early, the trees are "tapped" i.e. a diamond shaped section of bark is stripped off the tree and a cup is placed on the tap (small piece of tin to direct the latex) this is done at night so the latex doesn't set in the heat. tilapia, as you know i love my fishing and catch tilapia on a regular basis (in Thai pla nin) these are extremely hardy fish, i once caught one about 1.5 kilo and decided to take it home for the hotel owner to cook...it sat in a plastic bag for 45 minutes, then in the motorbike taxi basket for 20 minutes, i gave it to the hotel owner to cook, she came back 30 minutes later and i asked her if she enjoyed the fish, she said no..........it's in my pond!!, this was about three years ago and it's still in the pond! thanks for the vlog mate, really enjoyed this one :)

When you left the Wat you loked for a place to get something to eat. Nothing makes you more hungry than talking about fasting, especially for 20 days. Did I hear correctly; that the monk wanted to fast food and water for 20 days? Is that possible?
@TheIsaanFarang4 жыл бұрын
LOL...We got talking about fasting and I explained that I do something called intermittent fasting every day...stop eating at 5pm and eat nothing until 10am the following day. He the told me that Buddha had fasted for 20 days, allowing himself only water. The abbot had done this himself...20 days with only water. He told me that day 1 and 2 were easy. Day 3 was painful. But once you reach day 4, the hunger disappears and the rest is easy. I decided to try the 4 days with only water as an experiment. Now it might be possible if you are living in a temple and able to meditate most of the day, but after 48 hours, I was feeling dizzy and couldn't concentrate on what I needed to do on my laptop. At this point I gave up. Straight down the Pad Thai stall 😄
@LarryFournillier4 жыл бұрын
@@TheIsaanFarang Kevin, there's an easy fix to a long fast. I'm currently doing Keto & Intermittent fasting and I daily do a 20 or 22 hour fast and a 48 or 72 fast monthly. The solution to doing a 48, 72 or longer fast is to take an *_electrolyte solution_* - water and a half of teaspoon sea-salt or Himalayan salt (they're loaded with nutrients and minerals that your body needs) during the fast. Try reducing your carbs, eliminate refined carbs (breads, pasta and even rice) and sugar from your diet and as you continue your future fasting your headaches will subside. Another reason why you get the headaches, when you do a prolong fast, is that your body is craving for carbs since its used to run on glucose(carbs & sugar), as a fuel, instead of ketones. Take care and keep those great videos coming. 👍🏽

@@staceypendley2713 Fascinating time in history and a wonderful era for the music scene. I'm going to go back to Ramasun station and do a video about it...including the rumours of it being used as a secret holding centre. Do you ever get back to Thailand?
@staceypendley27134 жыл бұрын
@@TheIsaanFarang No, never heard that and never seen any type of covert vehicles either. But it did contain one of the biggest radio and radar I believe. Troops used to use the M.A.R.S to call back to the states. I been trying but every time I start to plan things something medical or other things happen. I'm starting to stash money away again and thinking of selling this place. Might have to take a lose on it. But right now biden my time thanks to covid.

20 days fasting is a really bad idea. Your body goes into ketosis and it starts eating the muscles. Very dangerous. Your accent is great, you sound like Tony Robinson. The red pork is not really Chinese, that would be Hong Shou Rou and is amazing. The rubber process is interesting and cutting the trees is an art. The raw latex is treated with formic acid to congeal the raw rubber. It takes a lot of trees to make a little money. It would make an interesting video. The rice fields look so pretty but all of that water means mosquitoes. Mai chob yoong. Does Pook talk much about working the farm? Mine never does but I know she has done it since she was a kid. Hard work with very little to show for it. They are harvesting fruit now and the workers get 200 baht a day.
@TheIsaanFarang4 жыл бұрын
Pook's family are fortunate in the sense that the bulk of their income is not related to the farm, which I'm sure makes farm life more appealing. I want to learn more about the rubber production and try to make a video of the process, start to finish. I'll take the Tony Robinson reference as a compliment. Love the guy. Re the fasting, I'm constantly intermittent fasting (16 hour a day without food, easily done through the night) but couldn't see myself doing 20 days. I did try the four days, simply to see if the Abbot was right about getting through day three, then the hunger disappears. After 48 hours, I was feeling dizzy and couldn't concentrate on what I needed to do on my computer. I bailed out at that point.
@cjinasia92664 жыл бұрын
Lucky that Pook has options. She has obviously weeded the rice before though. I would be grabbing the wrong stuff. The tirak is doing field work right now out of obligation to the family. After many years of office work outside of Bangkok, she hates it. Climbing trees with machetes to cut the fruit scares me. I worry for everyones' safety. The fasting thing is counter to our physical well being. We need regular food, regular water and regular sleep. If the body needs cleansing, there are mechanisms to handle it. Love Tony Robinson, great actor and a true intellectual as well. Lunch with the Blackadder cast would be frightening for all of the brain cells floating about.
