Frostgrave being ''not just a game to sell miniatures but but one to be the best it can possibly be with the miniatures made around it'' is exactly what I have in mind when reading the rulebook. Great stuff!
@tomemaster17448 ай бұрын
My favourites include Five Leagues/Parsecs, but I really have to dive into Joseph A. McCulloughs games I have heard nothing but positives, and it's a "Your Dudes/Dudettes" narrative gamers dream come true. Both Five Leagues/Parsecs are Solo/Cooperative games with a very heavy emphasis on allowing to create whatever you want in Sci Fi or Fantady settings. You should definitely check them out for your narrative solo wargaming needs!
@danroberts0078 ай бұрын
Yes, I was going to recommend Five Leagues from the Borderlands and Five Parsecs from Home as well. Ivan Sorensen and Joseph McCullough definitely sit in some of the same circles of the Game Designer Venn Diagram. Their games are different but appeal to the same narrative appetites and miniatures-agnostic DIY approach, imho. Ivan has created so many rules sets it is mind-boggling. One thing Peachy hasn't picked up on since he hasn't played his first game of Frostgrave yet is how incredibly swingy the dice rolls can be, as the game uses d20s. This can drive some people into fits, but I'd encourage you to just go with it. Yeah, sometimes your die rolls are going to be WAY OFF what you needed. C'est la vie. The more you play, the more you will be able to cope with it and realize it's not that big a deal most of the time... unless your Wizard dies. ;-) Which can definitely happen. If you're unlucky it'll be in the first game. Then you get another Wizard or Apprentice and move on. This isn't Mordheim/Necromunda where losing your leader early can really set you back compared to the other warbands and punish you severely for the rest of the campaign. It's less of a big deal than you think, so just roll those d20s and accept the results.

Your apprentice: A) casts the same spells as your wizard but not as good B) without an apprentice, you lose an activation round, meaning your opponent activates his wizard and up to three soldiers, then his apprentice and three soldiers, and then the remaining soldiers. In this time, you activate your wizard + three soldiers, skipped the apprentice phase, and then activated your remaining soldiers. That can be rough. C) your apprentice progresses with your wizard, D) if your wizard is killed, you can promote your apprentice to wizard and get a new apprentice. If you dont have an apprentice, roll a new warband So yeah that kiddo is worth bringing along xp

Sooner or later, every wargamer comes to Felstad! Glad you finally discovered the joy that is Frostgrave, and maybe have a look at Five Parsecs and Five Leagues as well. The Ambot Hunt scenario for Necromunda can easily be adapted for both Stargrave and Frostgrave - maybe a modified Sewer Dragon( Neurolictor? ) and a Vampire( FEC Archregent? ) for each respective game. The benefit is that you only need your warband and a single model for the thing you'll be hunting. Speaking of which, I hear that The Doomed is also a very popular ruleset for solo gaming with an emphasis on kitbashing.

The clothes look quite baggy on the 3rd warband, maybe a wind themed elementalist band? Or something focused on light? My idea is since you got good guys and bad guys maybe you can have a warband that they think they're above everyone. Maybe they're trying to claim frostgrave to become the rulers of it and keep the treasures there in safe hands (their own)

Im soo tiered of GW... That compsny destroyes everything in the end. So really Nice to see this! Thank you! Im looking at Zone Wars aswell from Free league when it comes to miniature Skermish games.

Fallout Wasteland Warfare Settlement Mode using solo rules is pretty good for making stories

This video has inspired me to introduce this game system to my table top friends. The idea of building a custom crew of lads is amazing!

You can tell the man comes from Warhammer by the fact his warbands have colour matching uniforms...

I play mostly Stargrave and I do want to at some point put together a crew that's more militarized or something, but I like the idea of rag-tag crews. Also, since group activation usually lasts for 2 or 3 rounds at the most, I find it easier to be able to identify who's who at a glance.

The best thing for me about Frostgrave is that it's miniature agnostic. I'm going to build a warband that has Gandalf leading it (GW miniature), with Jack Black as my barbarian (Crooked Dice) and the Time Bandits as my thieves and thugs (Northumbrian Tin Soldier). I'm really tempted to try and theme a warband around Crooked Dice's Father Ted miniatures now though. Father Dougal casting fireballs at people can only go badly...

Hahaha! That’s a fantastic collection of characters, and crooked dice have amazing miniatures too, quality choices 👌

Necromancer warband for the win! My latest warband is a set of desert nomad flesh-eaters using the wargames atlantic Afghan warrior sprue. Best thing about this setting and rule system is how well it lends itself to just picking a concept and running with it. I'm sure many can agree that its a great feeling to have an amazing concept but you get burned out before you can finish a full army. Frostgrave is the perfact balance of wacky idea and achievable objective, and the fact you can build a warband for pocket change and a handful of buttons is a bonus.
