Love how the actual conditional probability problems are skipped over. How is the heart worm problem done? There is no explanation as to why it’s (.02 * .95) and not (.02 * .166)
@oliviahoying3 жыл бұрын
It’s .02*.95 because they were trying to figure out the probability of heart worm and positive test result, so the two values were multiplied. The .166 is from both branches of the tree, (heart worm and positive)+(no heart worm and positive). Hope that helps :)
@diobolical88802 жыл бұрын
.166 is the chance of having a positive result, be it through the dog having heart work which is a .02 chance or through the dog not having heartworm which is .98. You take these two numbers and multiply them by their respective chance of the dog getting a positive result, for having heart worm it would be .02*.95=.019 and .98 *.15=.147, you would then add these two values to get .166 because the question asks what is the probability of the dog having a POSITIVE result no matter wether it has heartworm or not.

@mporinchak5 жыл бұрын
not if you work at it! It actually is a lot easier than other math classes! Hope you enjoy it.
@brits62513 жыл бұрын
I thought it was moderately easy, but it takes pausing to think. I feel it takes some right and left brain. I think it would also generally be interesting for someone who likes the social sciences. Definitely watch the youtube videos though. You can pause when you need to, etc. In class, it took unnecessarily long to get through the topics, which makes it harder for some people, but school systems at least organize your learning schedule and content for you, so AP is better than a CLEP in my opinion (I just want to convey the AP class is definitely something to put the work into, even if it is hard). Supplementation like this video (and Charlie Lindleof's videos) is definitely good, even though I found it sort of easy to learn in class, personally. A lot of people around me did struggle. My great uncle has a law degree and an economics degree from Harvard from back when people could afford to do that, and he says it's because he audited the classes before taking them. Too pricey to do that now. KZbin is like a free peek at the class, which is so useful to keep your gpa high and your understanding clear and full! ~~ An unusually long answer from an adult college student

How come you were allowed to multiply (at 23:12), (.02*.95) and (.98*.15), when they aren't independent. Its 95% positive if there is a 2% change of heart burn, thats not independent? Please explain.
@mporinchak6 жыл бұрын
Ali Algabri it’s conditional probabilities. The 95% is on the condition that 2% chance of heart worm. If the second even is on the condition of the first you can multiple them without being independent. Probability of A and B = probability of A times the probability of B on the condition that A has occurred. This is true regardless of independence.
@alialgabri216 жыл бұрын
Michael Porinchak i understand. But at 11:11 you said if its conditional probability, then we can multiply prob of A and B only if independent
@mporinchak6 жыл бұрын
Ali Algabri hard to explain in words better if I could write it out. If you are trying to find the probably of A and B, if they are independent you can just multiple P(A)*P(B). If they are not independent or you don’t know them probability of A and B is P(A)*P(B|A)
