I hope you all realize that as a whole, we as the class of 2022 are getting screwed over in regards to our AP world experience. We literally have ONE textbook that we can fully use and that is adapted to this “revitalization of a course”. Also, the college board is experimenting with us as to what to include in their future classes as far as material and other content regarding information. Don’t worry though, the cool bald dude with a beard and crash course world history are great sources. Also, watch a lot of documentaries, it’s really beneficial in the long run.

Gianni M so did I. The course isn’t really that hard, there’s just a lot of time and effort that you must put into the reading and studying. It is however challenging when all we can really use is Amsco at the moment. Especially harder when you retain better by reading an excerpt compared to videos, lectures or other forms of learning.

For anyone who deos not want to watch the entire thing, here is a detailed summary on it: 1. **The Big Picture (0:31)**: The video starts by outlining the major developments that occurred during the years 1200 to 1450. It mentions the growth of major civilizations, the continued influence of world religions, and significant technological innovations like gunpowder and paper. Simultaneously, smaller states, localized religious beliefs, and older technologies were in decline. 2. **State Building (0:53)**: The host introduces the theme of state-building, emphasizing that "state" in this context refers to an organized political community under one government. The review highlights how various states built and maintained control over their populations. Two contrasting examples are presented: the Song Dynasty in China, a flourishing empire during this period, and the Abbasid Caliphate, which was undergoing political and economic decline. 3. **State Building Comparisons (1:35)**: The video delves into more specific comparisons of state-building in different parts of the world. It examines how various regions achieved and maintained power. Examples include the Vijayanagara Empire and the Chola Kingdom in South Asia, the Kingdom of Mali in Africa, and Aztec and Inca empires in the Americas. 4. **Religion (5:23)**: The role of religion in state-building is discussed, with an emphasis on how different faiths contributed to the process. Examples include how Islam united regions through shared beliefs and the spread of Arabic. The revival of Confucianism and its role in Chinese society, as well as the reliance on Hinduism and Buddhism in South Asia and Southeast Asia, are also highlighted. The video touches on how the Catholic Church organized European society. 5. **Religious Conversion (6:00)**: The review emphasizes that during this period, major world religions spread through conversion efforts, which involved sending out missionaries. This not only affected belief systems but also led to the weakening of indigenous religions. Conversion by military invasion, such as the Muslim conquest of northern India, is also discussed. Additionally, trade and the role of merchants in spreading religion are mentioned. 6. **Technology (7:33)**: The video covers technological exchanges during this period. It points out that China played a significant role in technological developments, including the introduction of Champa rice and paper-making techniques. The rise of the House of Wisdom in Baghdad, thanks to the translation of various texts, is highlighted as well. 7. **Nomads (8:04)**: The enduring influence of nomadic peoples is discussed, with the Mongols being a key example. Their vast empire brought political stability and increased trade along the Silk Roads. The role of nomadic peoples in the transfer of technology and culture is acknowledged.

My advice for current/future AP world students (from someone who got a 5)… Do the reading. And take good notes. What are good notes? Well, whatever helps you study. I recommend experimenting with a few notetaking styles (cornell, paragraphs, charts, combination of different things) and seeing which one works for you. When reviewing the content, do “active recall.” Have someone test you by asking you questions about the chapter, or make a list of the topics and don’t look at your notes. See what you can actually remember off the top of your head. (This is opposed to passive recall, where you just reread what you wrote and tell yourself “pftt yeah i got this.” Ofc Heimler’s videos are also great for reviewing! (REVIEWING, not necessarily learning the material). Try to avoid procrastination. What helped me was making a schedule of what I needed to get done for each day of the week. Practice, practice, practice. If you have a good teacher, this should come with the class. But try to do practice questions for each chapter, and get used to doing it under a time constraint. Don’t worry, it’s totally possible. And remember to get good sleep and eat breakfast, ESPECIALLY the night before your test. But also try to keep your sanity intact throughout the school year, your mental health is just as important. Bonus tip: Look up the Chinese dynasties song.

As civilization grows, groups of people (states) basically develop their own religions and culture. Song dynasty created a bunch of cool inventions and stuff like rice, gunpowder, etc, culturally: confucianism occurs and imperial scholar exam. In the Abbasid caliphate, it fractured and from it arose Delhi sultanate (had trouble influencing Islam) mamluk caliphate/sultanate (NOT SO GOOD). Mali centralized power in Africa and gained wealthy Aztecs used tribute system! Powerful military. Incans used mita system. Europe had feudalism. Religion: Islam unites regions throughout middle east and etc. Similar to confucianism Rulers relied in Buddhism in southeast Asia. And hinduism France vs Holy Roman empire for religion (Christianity?) Also trade, religion spread through trade. Champa rice from Vietnam in China = yayyyyyy learning and inventions from food and reproduction Mongols (nomadic people influence decrease)
