The biggest positive I can give is the acting from Kevin McNally and Dianne Wiest. I like Dianne and it was nice to see her play a villain for change; she scared the absolute hell out of me in the haircut scene! Kevin McNally it was cool to see him again and I thought he did a great job. Julia Garner did fine but I think the script was what failed. There was a lot of inconsistences with the plot, like they didn't have Rosemary and Terry meeting or talking. Also the dumb poor man's rendition of the Rosemary's Baby lullaby in the ending.. what the hell?!?

rosemary and terry actually met in the movie. after terry saw a baby in the washing machine in the laundry room, we can actually see rosemary enter the laundry room too through the elevators. she has the same blonde pigtails she had from the original rosemarys baby. although it was just a brief, blink-and-you'll-miss-it scene, i think that it's actually enough to subtly show that their characters had a connection. the prequel's focus is on terry, after all.

It is sad that young woman have to be so careful in these days, I know things have not change much from the 70's & 80's but now a days with it being very easy to find out a lot of info on anyone online, that makes it really scary. It’s actually safer today. Back when I grew up we were trained to think of all grownups as safe. And children were never believed when they reported bad grownups. If anything, your parents would punish you for “lying about that priest or uncle”. Also people did not understand basic psychology. They would assume that because you did not fight your assailant to the point of him almost killing you, you must have wanted it. And finally, we did not know the mind tricks and the drugs these people use. The only reason statistics seemed lower is because victims carried their assault as a secret.

I have a question about the Laundry room scene. It was particularly confusing to me, because the woman who stumbles upon Terry while doing her laundry looks a lot like Rosemary, but unlike in the first movie, where Terry and Rosemary stop and talk, this interaction doesn’t happen at all. If the woman is supposed to be Rosemary, it would disrupt the events of the original story, since Rosemary moves into the apartment after Mrs. Gardenia dies, but in the prequel, she’s still alive during these events. (?) Was this like a mistake they didn’t notice?
@BrysonRyenn3 ай бұрын
its a dumb movie
@jtexas46293 ай бұрын
I hated how that didn’t connect to the original. They should’ve left it out completely especially since they weren’t going to interact anyways. I kinda wanted them to make it more seamless and connect that scene with the original but it wouldn’t have worked out for the details already mentioned. Also in the original Terry was still very much happy and saying good things about the Castevets until almost right before her demise. In this version Terry was already weary of them and in a complete state of fear and paranoia well before her death.
@S.-cm6qc3 ай бұрын
Yes!! Exactly! No one else seems to have caught that and that's when it went downhill..that messed the whole timeline up. Showing Rosemary and her husband speaking with the police officer at the end would have been enough

@@S.-cm6qc Yesss. I tried to overlook the costume choices in the scene, even though I think they were different from the first movie, but the sequence of events was just a HUGE mistake, mainly because, from a logical point of view, it doesn’t make sense. Thanks for the re-cap. I do think men need to be thoughtful when reviewing commentary on women's reactions to sexual violence and reproductive coercion. I wasn't a fan of the "Bill Cosbied" comment. Sexual violence is common and nuanced and I think the actress did a great job portraying that--after the assault she was confused, and violated, but probably didn't think she had the right to be upset because women are taught our bodies are not our own.

I think her dance works as both a self distraction and a distraction to the cult. She said before that dancing helped her forget all her problems so she knew that if she purposely tried to kill herself or hurt the baby in a conscious act that the baby would stop her, but if it was something that was spontaneous then clearly it could be done.

I was disappointed. The musical theatre elements didn’t work. And why would they give her the lead in a huge Broadway show knowing she was pregnant and would have to drop out at some point? Not a single scary moment. The nun scene was stupid and cliche. Also- Rosemary moved into Mrs. Gardenia’s apartment in the original story. So why do we see a Rosemary lookalike in the laundry room before Mrs. Gardenia died? She wouldn’t have been there at that point. Lead actress was nothing like the original Terry and the first Terry expressed her gratitude and fondness for the Castevets. This Terry never seemed to like or trust them. The movie had virtually no humor or quirky characters as in the original. The actors playing the Castevets were good but bound by the interpretations of the original actors. I thought the last 20 minutes of this were particularly lifeless and bad. Hated it and I love Ira Levin!

Could somebody please explain the secretive smirk shared by the elderly couple at the very end? None of the explanations include it. -------> I found the primal parts of this whole piece (on its own) incredibly startling. At that age, we are seeking our own place and success in the world. It's a transition between learning about ourselves and others. We are in limbo determining who and how to trust (especially if that wasn't present in the foundation of one's upbringing). It makes sense to be drawn to those who seem like pseudo parents when, in fact, they are predatory. It's noticeable in piecemeal how Minnie is increasingly abusive from neglecting Terry's beginning protests to cutting her ear during the haircut to pressuring Terry to let them adopt her "baby". Without the Satanic component it could be filmed as a documentary: young woman trying to make her way in the big city, offered free rent by seemingly helpless and compassionate elderly couple, is set up on a blind date by said couple, is raped on date, becomes pregnant and is forced (through religious beliefs) to have the child. It's a little too close to home in this monster stage of evolution we are currently residing.
